Hello All,

I have been using Eve under Ubuntu Linux for about 10 months and it was fine (for my uses) but over the last couple of patches it has been slowing down to the point where it is unplayable - even for sole mining or Level 1 Missions! (yes even with latest updated Everything - Ubuntu, Video Card Drivers, etc)

So I am thinking of going to Windwos (Shock horror) for Eve.

My Question:

Has anyone pout there done the same thing and what was the resulting speed of Eve like?
Do you find that the "Lag" you had under Linux is gone?

I found some speed issues (re:lag) were better with an updated driver but it keeps slowing down with each jump/missions/etc so I think it is the Video card driver not freing up memory (or using it differently).

Can someone who has used Linux comment as to whether Eve is faster graphically under Windows?

(NB: I've never played under windows only Linux and so dont have anything to compare it to. I've never been able to get into PvP or more than 10 opponents (as per some missions) due to the speed issues.)

Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Jason Brisbane

OK. Ive been cruising the internet researching private servers. Apparently there is a free EVE server, but im stayin away from it. I really love playing EVE and never will stop paying for it, but I really want to expieriance flying capitol ships. I am currently a 0.0 HAC/RECON/BC pilot. I really want to make some movies and just expieriance flying capitols such as the Rorq, Thanny, and the Nyx. I was wondering, since it is apparently possible to create servers, if I can create a one player, only me server where I can start out with max skills just to fly caps. Is this possible?

And let me re-iterrate, I dont plan on stopping my real EVE accounts. This is pure experimental.
The simple expression Suck, Squeeze, Bang and Blow is the best way to remember the working cycle of the gas turbine engine.

Rolls Royce training manual, 2002.

Edited by: Angela Constantine on 19/10/2008 10:45:58
Ok strangest bug bug i've had to date.

I was at a pos with my capital char, launched a ship from the SMA and then boarded it with this char, but when i did this the client became unresponsive (couldnt click or do anything, but could still type and spin camera). After a few minutes of this i decided to try and relog the char.

On re-entering the game on that char, it wouldnt load past "checking navigation systems", yet on the capital char i was also using, she was visable in space, lockable, in all the channels she should have been in, but the client was stuck on the checking navigation systems.

I tried clearing the cache aswell as deleting the settings folder, and this didnt work. I was also able to log out and back in with the capital character with no problems, so that rules out a lag issue.

After petitioning i got the char moved 1 jump away, and i could log her out and back in with no problems, but as soon as i went back to the system the problem started in, the issue was still happening, logged out and stuck on checking navigation systems.

I also tried swapping ships a second time, and the problem repeated itself.

I've heard of other pilots having the same problem, and the only method the GM's have of fixing it at the moment is to move the char out of the system, which in 0.0 conflicts is less than ideal. I'm currently stuck again and am waiting til after dt to see if the problem fix's itself.

Anybody else have any info on fixing this issue? I have filed a bug report already on this issue.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I also tried logging the character in on a seperate PC to double check it wasnt an issue with my machine, and the problem persisted. It definitly seems to be something server side causing the problem.

Hi there,

Im having big troubles with my connecting to the eve server. Ive tried
everything possible, a traceroute and ping is flawlessly - tried even another PC.
Theres no firewall or router inbetween. Even a network analyse with wireshark doesnt give a hint.

Seems like Chello changed something in their network infrastructure or configuration. The eve support guy
told me that they get more and more complaints from chello users with connection troubles.

Im looking for Chello users with the same problem. We should all write to support@chello.at and explain the problem.

Heres my email, ill post a reply if i get something new (sorry its in german):

S.g.Chello Support,

Vielen Dank & Mit freundlichen Grnen
Phil v.L.

Thx & Greetings
Phil aka Pan Thau

Ive tried
everything possible, a traceroute and ping is flawlessly - tried even another PC.

Whenever I am locked onto by an enemy (or groups of enemies) my Windows XP with Service Pack 3 crashes. When windows ressurrects, it claims that the sound card is at fault. After disabling the soundcard, I do not run into this problem, but I would like to play the game with sound (so I know when I'm being attacked or when something has lock). I'm not willing to go out and buy a new soundcard just to play the game as I want to.

The sound "card" is actually an in-built module into the ABit F-I90HD motherboard and I have the drivers upgraded to the latest available.

For those of you who think it is a RAM issue, I have talked with your comrades and I have removed and put back in place all three RAM sticks.

I re-iterate that windows THINKS this is a sound-related issue, and all other evidence points to it.

What can I do?
