Actually they did know. The company (Weyland Yutani) sent the Nostromo to LV-426 with an android who knew about the Aliens on board. So, in a rather round about way they are keeping the continuity there. As for the birthing times, that was rather fast.

And the alien invasion in the comic books happened after the incident with the Sulaco IIRC. You also saw the alien homeworld in that one. Some very nice storylines in the comics actually, mad scientists 'taming' aliens featured a lot and so did mass destruction. There was even one with Ripley going after the alien 'Queen Mother'. A Queen of Queens. Now THAT would be worth seeing.

i was mystified by that as well, also i do wonder why he would not kill himself if these things burst out with extra speed in this version as presumely a warrior with honour would. The other thing was the face huggers knock you out for like a day while they implant the egg, ten minutes was a lil fast.

ya - they changed it from like 48 hours to thirty minutes, i guess the movie would lose its pace if they all waked up and carried on as normal for another day or so.

The comic version tells of the aliens getting to earth via some space debris and a wrecking crew getting infested. If the movie goes by the book you'll see a return of the giants too.

I saw it last night and, having read this thread and other reviews, I went with very low expectations.

I was very surprised at how good it was - nothing as awesome as Aliens but a lot better than I expected. The fights scenes were short but very satisfying - how cool was that final Predator when he leapt up and speared the Queen Alien through the head?

Some continuity problems though - the 3rd Predator was infected by a facehugger but the Aliens still attacked him? I clearly remember Ripley being ignored when she was infected.

Also, the alien birth happened really quickly.

There will definitely be an AVP 2 and I hope, now that the first film has laid the groundwork of the story, AVP 2 can get straight into some meaty AVP action.

I've heard rumours that the 5th Alien film will tell the story of Aliens infesting Earth - that will be worth watching if it's a decent cross between Starship Troopers and Aliens.

I've just seen this film and it's one of the biggest disappointments in cinema history. What should have been a fantastic sci-fi action horror film turned out to be an hour and a half of dire monotonous action. They should have left the comics alone and built the script from Predator 2 and/or Aliens 3.

AVP suggests the Aliens had already arrived on Earth hundreds of years previously, long before 'Mother' brought the crew of the Nostromo out of stasis in original Alien. It's lack of historical continuity (and respect for the audience's memory of that) also lets it down terribly. Having the Aliens 'on Earth' should have placed the story well in to the future, setting the scene for a vicious & bloody high tech battle classic.

Resurrecting Lance Henriksen as 'Bishop' Weyland was so pitiful and desperate, it's obvious the producers knew they had a damp squid in production. The only way having 'Bishop' in AVP could have made sense was once again to set the film way in to the future and have him return as an 'improved' android mk2. Any ways, definitely one to wait for the dvd if you haven't seen it already.

I saw the movie, and it was what I expected it to be: not bad, but not very good either.

Action scenes were good, but the scenario was completely previsible, the actors below the average...

That could have been a very good movie, if humans and predators hadn't ended allied in the middle of the movie, removing the "fear" ambiance...

I saw it last night, here's my analysis on it.

The movie started off like a lot of science fictions do, some strange happening and a team is sent to check it out. The action started a bit late into the film for my taste, they could have made the beginning more fast paced and had some more action going on.

It wasn't really anything like I expected. I was expecting mass murder, cities being blown up and billions of people dying, more actions and explosions. Instead of that they gave us smaller fights, and not a lot of them either. The ending was all right but nothing fantastic.

The story was a bit surpising, not like a lot of films where you can just see what's about to happen beforehand. We needed something a bit more Starship Troopers-style where marines get slaughtered without ever standing a chance against their enemies.

In the end I gotta say that the movie was all right, it surpised me a bit (didn't have very high hopes for it) and for that it gets ***/*****

Personally I felt the film felt like it was only 15 mins long, not sure if it was due to the total lack of substance or the fact that 2 of the 3 preds got killed off in seconds...

Also the 2004 setting wasn't that great either, I would have liked to have seen more in the future, on another planet, with the preds raiding a scientific base and have a robot/cyber alien do all the human's dirty work :P

Take comfort in knowing that its probably some pimply faced twit, or 40 year old virgin, who gleens everytime mommy offfers to take them to needle point lessons

Sentient beings vs instinctual feedingvessels, hmm, which ones will the humans end up siding with? The suspense alone was killing me.

It was a computergame re-written to be a movie, expect nothing and you'll get it.

Had they expanded the thing more and added an hour of drama with different groups encountering the predators all over the globe collecting keys or whatnot to be able to enter the arena and following them there with guns then you might have had yourself a movie.

As it stood I merely watched for the artwork. As with most sci-fi, then I blanked out the story and made my own in my head.

Could have been worse. The story was almost directly pulled out of the comics,,, and that wasnt 2 bad.

The action was pretty sweet tbh, and im not easily satisfied. Neither the predators or this film have ever been a patch on the original alien films tho, they were rly good sci fi horrors.

Some awful crap is put on the market these days, Van Hellsing was a film that truly made me feel pain

When I first heard about the film I was excited and was looking forward to seeing it until I heard that in the US it had een released as a 13 then I read some reviews and started t worry that it was not going to be a very good film.

I saw it last thursday at an advanced preview and thought it was good ( it's better than ok but not great) the fight scenes between the predators and aliens were very good but the film could have been better:

1, make it an 18
2, more gore
3, Marines running around with big guns (think blaine with old painless)
4, More predators
5, another Hudson

Reason I say there should have been another hudson was that when he freaked out it was funny and his one liners were some of the best that I have heard in films.

AvP should have been a combination of the movie Aliens (Marines with awesome firepower vs. the horde) and the first Predator movie (bunch of large commandos with awesome firepower vs. one predator).

Of course at this rate of crappy movies trying to appeal to the masses, if there ever is a sequel, it will probably involve Alien and Predator babies search for the end of the rainbow in an animated movie!

I think they tried to change too much..

There should've been a big marine with an even bigger gun. And way more gore. And a better ending.. Oh, and did I mention more gore?

To be honest, the best things about the old predator/aliens movies were the cool firefights and novel ways in which people met their gruesome end (spinal column, anyone?). This kinda stuff is almost completely missing, and IMO it just spoils the atmosphere.

The comics ruled, the movie sucks. It's been watered down and made more user-friendly than MacOS.

you see, thats the BIG problem... the guys that make the films think by making it a 12, that they will get lots more ppl going to see it, bigger audience.

Its the US film making dudes that are ruining it, they are making more and more films that are trying to attract the FULL market, thats impossible, as u will only make average films this way..

i went to see terminator 3 with ma mates, i was sitting next to a group of 10 year olds with their dad, the kuckers laughed at all the dumb bits..

we need films for the men, and films for the kids, give me back ma 18 certificate filmmmmmmmmm..

we will never see classics like predator, the thing, alien, EVER again.

Of course the plot was going to have been written for the fans of the franchises. It was the fans who got the ball rolling on this one.

Saying that, I'm a nut for both franchises and have written most of the novels that have come out for the franchises so I quite enjoyed this. But then, I never expected anything more than a slugging match with nice effects. Plot was never going to be a great issue as the film is about the fight scenes. Plot only matters for getting from one to the other

In short this is an action film, not a horror flick. Expect nothing more and it's a blast!

Well, I guess they went for the Alien/predator fanbois audience and cleaned up. Fair play to them, but I'd just like to see Hollywood going back to the days when it made films not money making franchises. Good films will always make money. Trouble is, **** ones do too it seems, so I guess its easier to just keep making **** ones.

Ok. I went to see this on Saturday night. I have to say that I was impressed. I was not expecting that the film would be anything more that a cash in, so I was pleasantly surprised. The acting was ok and the story was good. I don't want to give any of the plot away so I will end with a question.

Anyone else seen this and what did you think of it?
