Ok, glad I checked the forums before buying a new vid card.
Same problems and only since RMR and only in EVE. About a week ago it started. PC just turned itself off like the powerplug had been pulled. Refused to restart for 5-8 minutes. Restarted eventually and the same thing happend half an hour later. So, ok I said overheating PC - seemed reasonable its very hot here at the moment. Then, it was ok for a week, but again today, 2 PC shutdowns. They seem to happen after about 2 hours of playing, and generally in graphics intensive situations (opening POS hangars filled with goods or combat).
My card is a ATI Radeon 9550, not the best but i've never had problems with it before.

PS. now on starting the PC I get the message, hardware monotor has found a error, press ** to check power setup

After first crash I ended up with about 60mb of system files self deleting, this is not good at all.

Computer crashed here too, never happened before RMR. Nvidia FX5700 on an ASUS mobo, Athlon2400+, 512ram, XP Pro. Ship in station, click on ship/open drone bay - instant shutdown like the powercord had been pulled out the wall.

Did my HDD no end of harm, system files lost needing format and full install. This shows however I now have errors on the disk: you will have to believe me they weren't there before...that is until IMHO click on drone bay piled the heads into the disk platter like a runaway locomotive burning cr4ck.

This is all too much of a coincidence, given the preceding posts.

I've had this issue too, especially during Exodus. I changed from a FX5200 128Mb to a GeForce 6800 LE Gamers' edition, and it seemed much better. I've not managed to install RMR yet, as I've had some HDD issues and can't get a clean install. My new HDD arrived today, so I hope to be in game with RMR later tonight. The other issue with all of these random dropouts is that it could be causing HDD problems (like mine, strange huh?) as the system cuts out so suddenly, it can't be good for the HDD, surely?

Live long and be honourable. Laugh often. Remember... it's a game!!

I played EVE all day pretty much, and other than times of unplayable lag I had no troubles, and no spontanious reboots. I recommend that people with this problem try that and see if it helps you... Hopefully this doesn't happen again.
---------------

I although have the problem with the computer reset and i know this things for some years now.

Since this error happens to a lot of people at the same time this is definitly a software problem. No chance that the hardware of some dozend people got crashed at the same time.

I think that all the people having the same problems have similar hardware like same sound card or same graphic card (ati maybe).
Often this is the problem.

My system is completly ok, no overheat or bad ram, no test program shows errors nor any other game or programm.

I will make the test with the sound card and disable the sound.

Maybe this helps, than i will post it here.

Excess heat is one of only 2 or 3 things that can cause a PC to cut off out of the blue short of actually losing power (note the difference between this and the PC restarting itself). I've not read every reply so disregard what you're already sure off:

IF THE PC IS CUTTING OUT AND NOT STARTING AGAIN:
-Check power connections. Loose is bad.
-Check your USB ports for damage (a bent pin can short and, and mainboards really don't like that).
-Enter your system BIOS setup program and look for "hardware monitor" or "PC health status" (or something similar - usually under the advanced section). Observe the CPU temperature for 5 minutes - on this screen, 60C is cause for concern and 70C+ is usually cause for immediate heatsink & fan replacement (though check the fan speed settings first). Clean the heatsinks.
-I see you bought a cooler for your graphics card. I'm not sure if the GFX card can request the entire system to shut down, but making one component cooler will have a knock-on effect to the cooling of the other components.
-Run the PC with the side of the case removed. IF it's a laptop/notebook, make sure to play with it on a DESK!

IF THE PC RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY:
-Disconnect all USB devices and try again.
-First: is the problem restricted to EVE? Does it happen when you play other games? When playing movies or DVDs? Playing music? What's running at the same time as EVE?
-Update everything. Update everything. Windows update, directx, video driver, audio driver, and if you feel brave, see if there are updates available for your motherboard chipset and system BIOS.
-Update your antivirus software (that uses a type of driver or service as well), full virus scan and spyware scan. If your PC was pre-built, the manufacturer's website is a good place to check as everything will be in a nice, convenient list.
-Sometimes rolling back drivers helps, but don't do that unless you noticed a definite "hey when I updated my [component] driver stuff starting going funky".

-If all else fails.... remastering is an option.

Oh and someone concluded it is bad RAM. Bit of a fast diagnosis there mate, need details to conclude the difference between likely and definite.
-----------------------------------------------
My Ideas:
Drones wish list <-- 2 years old.
A third-party cooling fan, even a good one, costs about $10-$15 and is braindead easy to install if you get the right one. I got my graphic card fan and case fan today and installed them, and my PC is like a walk-in freezer now, not that it wasn't already cold... I also checked and triple-checked my RAM and no errors came up. I even cleaned inside again even though I just did it a couple weeks ago. Pulled everything apart and douched the heck out of it and put it back together. Once they get the patch out and servers back up, we'll see if this makes any difference...
---------------

As a tech at a computer repair shop I can tell you ALOT of things can cause this kind of behaviour from a system.

Number 1. Cause of random reboots and lockups is caused by overheating and dust in the sinks.
Number 4. Cause of random reboots and lockups is a bad Power Supply Unit.
Number 5. Cause of random reboots and lockups is a faulty motherboard.
Number 6. At this stage you have a problem... good luck ;)
Unfortunatly it can also be combanations of these things too so you may find one faulty part that reduces the problem but does not totally fix it, in which case start the process again and replace faulty parts as needed.

I suggest you check these things in that order. If you don't have spare 'new' parts lying around to test out the hardware problems I suggest you take the machine to your local computer store for testing and repairing.

I'm on 3582 and have no problems (and judging by the number of new accounts, compared to the number of users asking about this in the forum, a lot of other people are also having no problems with 3582).

However, if this is now happening in other games (where it wasn't before), but not during other memory intensive activities, assuming these other games have not also been patched ie: they remain a constant, my guess is it could be:

a) The graphics card has been put past it's limits. This would explain why it now happens in other games (ie: it overheated and became permanantly damaged in the process) It would also explain why it doesn't happen running less graphics intensive but equally memory hungry applications

b) A piece of software running in the background. Try Ctrl-Alt-Del and shut down any processes that aren't absolutely necessary. I can't understand why this would only be a problem when running games though.

c) A hardware incompatibility issue. Again though, I can't think why it would suddenly start happening in other games though.

d) One of the other million and one things that could go wrong in computing. I'll get back to you if I think of another one for you

I think we can rule out the PSU, if that was overheating you would only have to wait about 20 minutes to half an hour after start-up without doing anything before the comp switches itself off.

And yes, the comp switching itself off every quarter of an hour is not good for it. Just doing that can kill your CPU and/or GPU, without any nasty software issues you'll get on the drive

"Behold! Yours was a different problem as it was fixed by disabling the sound. If you read the original posters second post he says it now happens in other games as well, therefore it is quite likely a serious hardware issue. Faulty memory could be one of many possible causes of system failure so checking it with memtest is a good idea. This is a client issue, the problem is isolated around Eve Online, and seems to be for pretty much everyone who is having it. I dont really think that this is normal for a hardware problem. In any case, it makes the game near unplayable. It wasn't happening for me until today, after they brought the servers back from this weird crash. Unless someone gives us a solution I don't think I can play. That's not a threat, I really want to play..I just don't want to play enough to put up with crashing every 15 minutes. It's acting a lot like an overheating issue though, likely the graphics card, but I don't understand why EVE would do it and not other programs and games that are just as, if not more graphics intensive... Unfortunately, aside from buying a third-party temp sensor for my graphics card, I can't think of any way to monitor it... I suppose the next step after that is some sort of third-party cooling harware. I just wish I knew that that was the problem.
---------------

I've noticed the same thing. However, I had my task manager up once, and I started the login screen. My CPU Usage jumped from 2% to 100% and stayed there. I didn't even log in yet. I don't know if this is supposed to happen with any program like this or what, but it doesn't seem normal. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know how to lower the usage on the CPU?

Pentium IV 2.4 GHz
nVidia GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB RAM
768 MB RAM

I've had this once, 2 times on the same evening while playing on my laptop. The laptop was on the couch so I figured the inside was overheating. I put it on the table and it didn't happen anymore. From the fan action I can tell EVE does put a heavy load on the CPU; so I'd advise to check that your 'puter gets enough ventilation and cooling.

I've had the same problem for months now, and have yet to come to a satisfactory conclusion. EVE was working perfectly, not sure what patch it was, but then it started doing this to me also. I've heard theories ranging from everything from graphic card overheating, CPU overheating, graphic card incompatibilities with MB, turning off sound, updating drivers, etc... I've got the most updated drivers for my PC always, and I never have overheating troubles with anything else. I see this topic discussed quite frequently, so I know I'm not the only one, but I rarely see anyone posting about a resulution to the problem that might help the other people having the same problem. I will promise now that if I do succeed in fixing the problem somehow I will post about it...
---------------

This happened to me after i downloaded the current EVE Client. After I installed it, the first 5 min EVE ran then boom, the computer froze then crashed. No Blue screen or anything, just the monitor going into "Suspend" mode and being able to do nothing. After that my comp started to freeze at random instances, I could not use my computer for more than 15 minutes without it happening. I had to reformat my computer and used a previous version of EVE after the format. I explained what I did to make it work on a very recent post I made on this same section. Sucks to lose all those progs and files.

This only started to happen AFTER (right after) I installed the EVE Client (EVE_3582.exe). So i'm pretty sure its the client's fault. My computer has up-to-date drivers, updates, anti-virus, and system specs are above what system requirements were listed. No virus, trojan, mal-ware, etc. Well you get the picture. Basically everything worked perfect.

I just hope CCP does something about this.

Nope, no error. It always seems to happen after 10-15 mins. Now, it's not just Eve, but most of my other games are doing it too, though, Counter Strike 1.6 seems to work fine. I just don't understand.. it's never done this before, my drivers are up-to-date, nothing is wrong with my comp..

Basically, I've been playing Eve for about a week, and now, every 30 mins or so, my comp shuts down, ONLY when playing Eve. My comp specs are higher than the recommended req. for Eve and I've tried changing the graphics etc. but it doesn't seem to change anything. It never does this with any other game apart from Eve. I've tried re-installing, and everything is up-to-date. So now, can anyone tell me what is wrong?
