You must be referring to prime fiction then. Otherwise you'd be a pretty ****-poor RPer to be using the words "Dark Jove" and complaining about a lack of post-human elements. I don't know if Tony Gonzales has ever read the "Heaven" piece himself and obtained inspiration from that, but it would make him the second major fiction writer to use such elements. Only time will tell how far CCP embraces this as part of prime fiction, and whether its simply a trump card for explaining things which even Jovian meddling cannot explain. Personally I think we, the players, are going to have the last and final say on where this goes.

But there is also a part of me which wonders if this is all "to be expected" given such an unrefutable repeat of history.

Just read Theodicy and thought it was superb. Ruthless I read as soon as it was released and also thought it was superb.

Great writing style, truly gripping and a really valuable contribution to the backstory of Eve.

I don't really agree with you but I can see your point. I think however that you are misunderstaniding the point in the dev blog. I didn't get the feeling he was lecturing anyone on the BADBAD things our species does, just putting the world of eve into perspective. I felt he was making a comparison on the basis of species going extinct on our one planet with our 6.5 billion versus a 5000 solarsystems and trillions of people universe. The ultimate point was explaining the mysterious "Order" in Theodicy, something I felt was needed.

The novellas are very good btw, those that have not read them should do so asap.

heh tbh I quite like the golden age style of eve science fiction. Its all very Isaac Asimov and E. "Doc" Smith and grand old ideas of giant space empires and heroic space fleets clashing in 4 colour imagery and thats pretty much a good thing sometimes. Some of the recent scifi trends although very interesting admittedly do take away some of the grandeur of old style sciencefiction visions (and here I'm talking about nanotechnology and exotic energy forms and transcendent artificial intelligences as deux et machina etc etc). Sometimes its very refreshing to see the universe in terms of nuclear powered dreadnaughts and atom lasers clashing in golden-age warfare across the cosmos.

Of course given our corp background we can blame all that IC on the corrosive influence of imperialist memetics and enjoy being the countercultural opposition to the big ideas government and territorialist regression

If you haven't read Ruthless or Theodicy, you certainly do not know what you are missing. If you have read these two novellas, you have an idea of what to expect in his forthcoming EVE novel.

However, not too much is known about the man writing and helping expand the stories that make EVE a living and breathing universe. Now's your chance. TonyG has written a Dev Blog introducing himself and also shares some thoughts about Life, the Universe and Everything.
