You know, talking of this, I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday, wondering if CCP would ever be able to launch a new game at all? One of the main reasons I actually got stuck to EVE, was their "Un-American" game design philosophy, and I dont mean it as a racial bias , but rather the way most northamerican games, being the leaders in the mmorpg industry, managed to set a special trend and way of viewing things. Even if some of the companies designing the games are based in Japan for example, they catered first to an American audience. I of course am not an expert on the subject but speak of my own experience: UO-EQ1-EQ2-WoW.

Now the first thing I really enjoyed in the game was that due to it being mostly European, the whole community, chat rooms and "general feel" of the game was sooo radically different, that there was a point on wich I was having a hard time trying to differentiate the main issue at hand. Is this game amazing due to it being engineered by people from Iceland? or is the Game the way it is for it being mostly played by people from Europe? or Both? or neither? Other MMORPG'S at hand were either EQ-WoW clones or simply so radically "experimental" that neither of them catched my eye at all. I wonder if CCP ever managed to launch say, a fantasy game it would be as good as EVE? As a Latin American living in Venezuela, I have been spammed to death with all kinds of U.S. Goods and ways of thinking, wich honestly , when compared to European standards are subpar

Is really the community here the fortT of the Game? The Layout per se?
-"There's no worst blindness than that of those that do not want to see"-

that's because WOW/EQ clones will probably draw in more subscribers. EVE's success has been built up over a quite a few years, where-as WOW has instant success. Most games companies are either unwilling or unable to put in the time and build a game like EVE - they would rather have a fast turnover of new customers than build a dedicated base and slowly expand it.

I like to casually browse a few of the MMO review websites at work (please don't tell my boss) and joined the EvE trial due to the positive comments you read about it on different sites. I'm not talking about the forums but the articles. Quite a few times in articles references would be made to the skills system, PvP, scams, community and more often than not the comments would be positive.
I've since starting paying CCP and I don't regret the decission. It's a totally different experience than I've come accross before but I'm getting used to it and I am having fun.
Eve has been out for a few years now and seems to be building up a loyal player base and is capable of attracting new players to the game.

So after this long winded build up I come to my point. If you look at MMO's in development at the moment all of them seem to follow the EQ, WOW game idea's. Eve is growing in popularity and breaking their own records for numbers of players but everybody seems to be too busy developing EQ clones to notice.
