Edited by: Vendrin on 18/04/2006 02:56:28
There is some historical data to support there was an earth, and there is biological proof that all 4 races started as the same race. Most the historical data is among the Amarr and the Jove.

Now, there is no proof whatsoever that earth is on the other side of the EVE Gate.

Also, no computer data, cds or anything like that survived among the 4 races.
[There is an ultimate loophole in EVE called the Jovian Empire. It can be used for any kind of plot twists. For example:]

We as humans like to brag about our accomplishments. When we travel we like to have with us an example of our creative might. Even though humans may have colonized many of the planets close to the gate, they had to have sent out exploration parties to other areas of EVE to "meet the neighbors." This is proven by the ancient jump gates that existed in what were considered uninhabited systems and discovered in the recent EVE timelime. It is safe to assume that there were a small group of explorers deep into EVE when the gate closed. With no way back to Earth they probably set themselves up in a corner of EVE, and created their own civilization. That's why the Jovians know so much. They are probably an example of human evolution if the gate never closed and threw everyone into the dark ages. When the other races were discovered and the Jovians started trading with them the Jovians could have unintentionally passed on these "Earth quotes" to there trading partners. And they of course thought they could prove they were smart by repeating them to anyone that would listen.

That's my opinion and i'm stickin' to it

The Eve colonies were suppose to be in their infancy when the eve gate collapsed, they weren't established enough to support themselves, thus mass startvation and millions dead and essentially a dark age. The New Eden system itself I think was suppose to be totally destroyed, but mankind had already spread out from there, (hence why all the main races are spread out). The main races such as the Amarr didn't even know the other races existed until they reinvented space flight, let alone Earth! But then who knows how much archeologists could discover from the ancient remains of the first colonies?

As for Earth, well that galaxy probably tore itself aparent. Before the eve gate was even discovered the galaxy was in an apocalyptic war for resources, the eve gate had stopped this cos suddenly there was a whole new bunch of planets to get resources from. But I imagine that as soon as the gate collapsed war would have resumed, unless they found a way to get to another galaxy, which is doubtful, cos as I understand it the eve gate is supposes to be a freak natural occurance. With the amount of time that seems to have passed since these events, I wouldn't be supprised if the empires around Earth had fallen and risen again, all Empires fall, and they're probably as clueless about the events surround the eve gate as our PC's are!

Well thats my 2 cents anyway :)

I think Earth might still be around. Its not specified how far out we colonized before we ran out of room. The explosion could have occured at the outer rim of the galaxy. The backstory tells us that scientists are finding old relics but can't glean enough information about the culture that created them.
Opening the eve gate would only work if the other side was full of wars with our forefathers.

The world of EVE is already too big. If we somehow opened it up, then it would need to be increadibly hostile to everyone.

At that point we would stop being amarr, minmatar, gallente, and caldari.
Instead we'd be the peoples of EVE united under CONCORD, fighting against hostiles comming through the gate.

At first we'd be at the disadvantage, and on the defensive. Then as we aquire Tech 3 from stealing their technology, it would become a fair fight, able to send through parties.
Opening EVE gate would be exciting no matter what, but for the health of the game, I think the above is best option.

Actually, a lot of information stored today won't last like the stuff of Rome's time. We've taken to storing info on hard drives, cds, tapes, cheap paper, poorly bound books, etc. No papyrus, no stone tablets, no leather-bound books, the list goes on. CDs, for example, last maybe 10-15 years, certainly not hundreds or thousands. Not to mention the fact that someone 5000 years in the future would need a cd drive to read it, instead of something as simple as their eyes. Think of it this way: if the ancient Sumerians had used hard drives instead of cuneiform, we'd know absolutely nothing about them.

There's some people actually working on this, and one of the ideas thrown about is to use very very small text inscribed on a long-lasting surface. Could age very well and be easily readable with simple microscope technology.

Based on Eve lore though, I'd say quotes from "ancient Earth ____" would be somewhat possible, though not in much detail, maybe even taking the role of proverbs. Two traders are sitting in a bar, strike up a conversation, and one says, "and remember the ancient earth adage, there's a sucker born every minute." So the words might get passed through oral histroy, but I bet the original speaker would be forgotten.

Well, in Reallife[tm] today we have texts, art pieces, relicts etc. as old as 3000 years and more, so even if Earth is just a myth of times long gone, there could still be a lot of records around of old ages (and the possibilites of recording history getting better all the time).
So if you can quote Caesar today, I think nothing speaks against quoting earth-stuff in eve. And pod-pilots are rather well educated.

-:[ On a rainy day at 13:37 Chuck Norris created EVE ]:-

Couldn't figure out where else to ask this so I figured this area would work.

Is the average person or even above average person (ie. corporate big wigs, Amarr Imperial families, archaeologists) aware of Earth as where they originally have come from? I've seen people quote "ancient Earth authors" or "ancient Earth musicians" and have always wondered if such was actually true to EVE lore. For me I've always thought of the idea of Earth to an EVE Pilot in an IC environment to be a complete myth (ie. How we view Valhala or Olypmus or any other of our mythical locations), so while it would be possibly known of by the more educated actually knowing anything about it wouldn't be likely and quoting people from it would just be insane.
