We are a corp that extensively use both the ferox and the prophecy. In a straight t2 - t2 fight with both ships its pretty much a draw. Its possible to fit a prophecy for gank that is great, but against the multi extended ferox he would never last long enough to make it work. The tank will tank a ferox's dps, that without T2 missles isn't all that.

Both ships have there pluses and minuses.

The passive tanked ferox is just an awsome solo or group ship due to its lastability. 12k shields, a good passive recharge rate and HAC like resists (This is with 2 invun / extend / relay setup) are mean as hell and I have previously taken down bs's with this setup. Add into the mix 5 small t2 drones (coupled with a drone link augmentor in high) and T2 fury missles (which fit beautifully with not needing any cap) and you get a pretty good dps rate that can be switched round to break down the vast majority of tanks. You also get a nice precision missle boat that is trouble for af's and intys. The difficulty of this ship is its speed. We use it for empire wars, moving through the home systems chasing peeps. This means that sometimes you need to go back on yourself after you jump in a system, and the fox is to slow for this.

The prophecy is good because its pretty versatile. Most setups we use centre around speed and t2 guns, either with a hrder tank and afterburner, or with a cap 400, mwd and smaller tank. This can pretty much go toe to toe with the ferox, and certainly is a great ship for pvping in. Tbh they work great in a team together.

For ratting however, IMO the ferox wins hands down. Its passive tank with racial hardners can tank triple bs spawns with ease leaving you room for a bcu, and your drones. It WILL take down the harder bs spawns but it does take a while, while the easier (500k) bs's take less than a couple of minutes. When you get T2 missles this will be a lot easier, and i also reccomend a sentry drone as the extra 100 dps is a great help.

In short: Prophecy is versatile and a great ship WHEN SKILLED. Ferox you can be deadly in within 6 weeks of birth.

For setups or if your looking for a corp contact Tonnik ingame.

Video of the ferox and prophecy in action. The passive shield tank setups are quite robust. I use mine with 250mm rails, but most people use heavy launchers. In the dps department it is a bit low compared to the prophecy, but you do have the advantage of using more damage types.

For pvp, shield tanks are generally frowned upon due to their midslot usage. There are enough lows on a ferox to armour tank it, but you lose out on the ship bonus, or at the very least don't use it to the greatest advantage. As someone said above, however, those mids that were there for shield tanking can then be used for ew purposes.

--Anxia
