They just didn't test properly. A lot of these bugs are purely client side, and could be found in 5 minutes, regardless of load.

They obviously just don't try hard enough at testing. For example - guns locking I found after the first big battle - several other people started reporting it on corp chat too, within hours of playtime. There's no excuse for not finding this stuff - it's sheer lack of effort. There were numerous other instances of similar things which would have been apparent after an evening playtesting. Hell - ppl even told them were the bugs were and they still didn't bother to listen.

So - I don't think it's worth trying to do their job for them if they are not prepared to make enough effort themselves.

True, but i still think they need to have some way of testing their server code better then just letting it out and seeing what happens. These recent constant crashes of prime highway systems may have been caught if they simulated traffic through them before putting the code up on tranq.

I'd also like the point out this is not the first time there was a major bug due to it going undeteced untill stress was placed on it. Anyone still remeber when they had that problem with the the sql servers that crashed the entire cluster and they had to put an emergency patch in? Chaos shouldnt just be used to test client side activies and balancing it, but should also be used to prepare the server code for tranq under conditions similar to that of tranq.

Which PA character are you?

The problem is that Tranquility is like 40 servers, whilst Chaos is one server. A piddley one at that O.o

(I think, it was one server, right?)

[Heterocephalus glaber]

I was thinking does CCP have anyway of doing a more realistic load test on the new code for the server? I know they keep logs of activity on Tanq, although i dont know how detailed it gets.

My idea is could it be possible to write a set of bots to run a simulated day on tranq on chaos? The bots would just sit on a command line and just send and recive sql querys and issue commands. Using the logs from tranq they can just follow repeat whatever commands that were issued on the logs. Just to simulate live server conditions.

I dont know how well chaos could handle that, but it might help in figuring out bugs in the server code related to high player levels which cant be tested on chaos as of now.

I hope I am making sense right now.

Which PA character are you?
