In other MMORPGs I was familiar with carebear being used to describe anyone who went out of his way to help out noobs, but this is definitely not the definition used by most of the people in EVE. Etymologically though, it makes more sense...

They add resistances to structure mainly, but a bit to armor and shields too. It's not indicated, but the resistance bonuses on armor and shields do suffer a stacking penalty with other modules boosting those kinds of resistances. Uses up just 1 c...
