Try and join a Corporation. There is no faster way to gain knowledge than from other Eve players. You can play Eve on your own without ever joing a Corp and some people do just that. But if you want to progress quickly, a Corp can help guide you...

Annarules - I had the same thing when reinstalling Eve with a GeForce video card. I went to the Nvidia site - downloaded the latest driver and that fixed it. Probably had to reboot though.

Check this thread It contains a good link to "chaining" -i.e. allowing NPC pirates to re-spawn in order to kill them again. Not only do you receive a bounty payment, you can salvage and then recycle or sell the loot that they drop.
