Generally because of the range. You dont have to wait for Gardes to fly to the npcs/hostiles. Nor do you have to have your Gardes try to keep up with MWDing ships. Can just sit there, and shoot like any other ship.

The old setups are still vaid for current Pvp. The only difference is that the whole script tracking computer/sensor booster changes have altered how you fly them in combat. However the setups themselves are still valid.
