I have been thinking about reverse engineering, will that only work on the sleeper ship drop to get T3 ships? If not, would it work on normal npc ships like guristas, blood or sanshas? Can I even get a blueprint if I try to reverse a module, metalvl4 maybe?
One other thing.... PLANETARY RINGS.... M10 or NOT???

Reread the dev blog.
Reverse Engineering is only usable on ancient relics.

What, if anything, do we actually know about how to reverse engineer the new t3 gear and ships?
If anyone has any links to dev-blogs addressing it, or external sources of rumor/fact, I'd appreciate the linkage.

Answered my own question, to some degree.
Found this http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=623
It goes into a bit of what reverse engineering t3 gear will look like. (the short answer is a lot like invention)

Reverse Engineering is invention with different pictures.
You put the relic in with data cores and interface and decrypt and you maybe get a BPC.

The difference from invention being that with invention 'you maybe get a BPC.' It appears they've changed this with reverse engineering, in that you WILL get a bpc, that MIGHT be of okay quality. They have said that they are making the quality of the return the variable, not whether there IS a return.

No you might get a bpc.
Read the dev blog. Read the dev blog. Read the dev blog. It's all in there.
Quote:
The key difference from invention besides it requiring ancient relics rather than blueprints is that there are multiple types of rewards possible from a subsystem BPC to datacores for example.

But we are going to get something, it just might not be a BPC.

Says who? The range could be nothing->datacore->subsystembpc->hullbpc

Reverse engineering only works with ancient relics recovered from wormhole space with Apocrypha. However the mechanic can be extended in the future as some of you have suggested to other currently hard or impossible to acquire items. As mentioned in my recent blog, reverse engineering was designed to be very similar to invention for various reasons. The distinct difference is with the decryptors and lack of variable ML/PL in the blueprints which are output.
With reverse engineering, the decryptors act to essentially fuse one races technology with that of the ancient tech and do not provide the bonuses invention decryptors do. They are required in each job and harvested from wormhole space. The same type of ancient relic can create an amarr/caldari/minmatar/gallente propulsion subsystem for example based on the decryptor you have available.
The majority of the changes are on the backend. Probably the best aspect is the use of loot tables to allow variable outputs and rewards which really builds upon one of the biggest criticisms and frustrations of invention with the boolean success of failure.
I look forward to feedback on reverse engineering.

Thanks for the response. Could you settle the sticking point in this thread?
Is it possible to get nothing from reverse engineering?
