Edited by: crockett EXE on 22/02/2009 19:22:22 I set up a ship with some T2 auto cannons to test the difference vs other AC's. I decided to try the Hail S Advanced ammo.
In the stats it show a 0.5 x Tracking Speed modifier for the ammo. I would assume that means it adds to the tracking speed because it's a (+) positive modifier not a (-) negative.
However when I add the ammo to the guns it cuts the tracking speed in half, to the point I can't hit anything up close. It's going from a tracking speed of around 0.50 down to 0.25 which doesn't make any sense to me.
If it is going to take away from the tracking speed, shouldn't the modifier be a -0.5?
This is a link to the ammo in question..

Working as intended. It's not + or - 0.5 it's multiplied by 0.5 which is the same as divided by 2. If you would multiply it with a negative number the result would be negative as well so no tracking at all if that where the case.

Your assumption was wrong. "0.5 x Tracking Speed" = half tracking speed.
("1.5 x Tracking Speed" would be what you were looking for in your assumption.)

Edited by: crockett EXE on 22/02/2009 20:49:09 Ok thanks for clearing that up.
I do have to ask, where would this ammo be of any benefit? Being it also has a -50% range penalty, seems like it would also be useless in a sniper ship with say 280mm artillery cannons and it's kind of useless in a fast AC ship.

If your opponent is heavily webbed, then the tracking penalty isn't going to make much difference.
At which point, you simply unload with all barrels and melt the opponent with the sheer damage Hail does.
Bear in mind that because of the other penalties that T2 ammo has, they're intended for very specific situations and usually for PVP use only.

when you are at 1km from a cruiser or larger or so. hail gives some lovely damage. acs have such good tracking it might even work against another frigate, biggest issue there I think would be getting in range.

This!
Having half the normal tracking isn't much of a problem when your target is three times the normal size.

Also, Hail cannot be used in Artillery, only Autocannons. Quake is the high-damage, short range ammo for artillery.
