To whomever has the time
We are all aware that the use of a warp disruptor is as good as opening fire on another ship and in high security space warp disruption will earn you that glimpse of CONCORD that gankers enjoy so much
I am curious why and I know that someone out there has a good answer that I haven't sussed out yet
See, I have been thinking of Eve piracy. In my, inexperienced, view piracy is an all or nothing affair. When there could be shades of pirate
Now the savvy readers are pointing to can flipping. Great point! Why can't hostages be taken also?
Warp on top of a target and disrupt him. Send him a message: "arrr where de booty?" and if he empties his hold then you win. You could even hold him there mining until he talks (pays) his friends for get him out of there
It seems too obvious to have not been considered but I can't find anyone else asking this question so: Why not?
Thanks for your time,

Just pointing someone could also be used as a griefing tactic. If pointing was legal, what's to stop me from flying a noob frig into a belt and point a Hulk for hours on end and refusing to stop no matter what?
There's just no reason it should be legal. If you want to ransom someone that badly and don't want him to warp off, you can repeatedly bump him out of alignment, but atleast you have to work a tiny bit to do it. |

Um, this is already possible? You should jump in an Arazu or something and go start doing it now! Make sure to fit a faction point for extra range! |

Ganking can be used to grief also, so I'm not sure what your getting at. Especially when I figure I would rather have someone point grief me then someone gank grief.
Also you misunderstand me. I didn't suggest pointing be legal. Just be less severe repercussions, like can flipping. (Actually I'm not suggesting anything. I'm quite sure that there is a good reason why things are the way they are. I just don't see it.)
You ask "What's to stop you from flying...." Nothing. Except maybe the hulk fits a stab or contacts someone else for help. You've seen the Eve trailer where that one guy is just cruzing past a miner getting harassed? That doesn't happen, at least in high sec. There is little light crime. You either play by the rules or everybody involved gets shot.
You might be interested to know that my interest is not as a pirate but as a miner. I would rather someone show up and try to rob me then someone show up and vaporize me. |

Point someone away from a station (belt, mission, etc) in a rookie ship and T1 scram, set to orbit, go AFK.
At least suicide ganking entails the griefer making a non-insignificant investment, and it is over quickly for the aggrieved person.
What you suggest would lead to people having no recourse but to log off eve (not every ship is carrying something that could kill even a rookie ship, for example, a noctis salvaging a mission).
People in NPC corps would be F*ked.
You'd kill noobs running missions (you know, when they actually bother to kill scramming frigs first, because odds are they will need to warp out at some point)
It would just be a major pain in the arse, and dicks playing station games would be pointing anyone undocking in Jita/Rens/Amarr/Dodi/etc, with their RR station camping, just daring anyone to attack them.
You'd never want to go anywhere without a sizeable number of corpies, because dicks are going to be pointing you all over the place, and if you engage them, you die unless you have logi support too. |

I have always said that I'm sure things are the way they are for a reason. I just am too green to know it. If you want to, you can call me an idiot. Your right but also a tactless jerk.
To everyone else who bothered to write informatively, thank you. Your answers don't completely satisfy but they certainly show that there is lots of support for the status quo. |

I see someone wants to point his gank targets so they can't warp away after his first gank attempt fails. It's time to put an end to CCP's war on piracy. Fight your own battles and stop asking CCP to do it for you. |

A merlin could point four ships at once, indefinitely, and hold them down while they are ganked.
Warp disruption is an aggressive act, period. It's time to put an end to CCP's war on piracy. Fight your own battles and stop asking CCP to do it for you. |

Just in case you're not intentionally misunderstanding he means OP, as in Original Poster, as in you.
Not sure that means he can't read or type though. It probably means you're even greener than you thought you were. |

Not intentional. Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I'm as inexperience in Eve as forums alike. I retract my comment about his typing but calling someone new an idiot is just uncouth.
He, and some others seem to miss (or ignore) concept that I'm not suggesting any game changes but I am asking why things are the way there are. There is a difference between the two.
But enough of all this. I doubt I will get anything more informative that what has been provided so far unless you are Dev or have a historical perspective. Thanks to all for your time and your answers. |
