I already played beta of this (Quake 3 in a browser is really cool)
Author has a quote: "The Massively Multiplayer Online space is certainly the area most likely to move to browser. Some well-known role playing game franchises could also move to the browser and are probably already in development."
That probably means WoW :-(
But then again, it could be done with Eve maybe, perhaps limited to Premium Lite. No idea how it would hold up in fleet battles or anything.
Would this be a good thing, or bad thing?

Welcome to EVE MUSH. You are in a ship. A wormhole is nearby.
>Look
Look at what?
>Look wormhole
It's a wormhole. It's wormy and holy. Not Amarr holy, but doughnut holy. mmmm....
>Fly
Fly where?
>Fly wormhole
You approach the wormhole. It's... beautiful.
>Go into wormhole
I don't understand that.
>Fly through wormhole
I don't see a "through wormhole" here.
>Enter wormhole
Your ship enters the wormhole. Forces beyond your imagining seize the hull of your vessel, the very molecules of your ship vibrating with the strain.
You have exited the wormhole.
You are in space. There is a wormhole nearby.
>Look
You are in an unknown system.
There is a wormhole nearby.
>Fly planet 2
You enter warp to planet 2... you are exiting warp.
You have been pwned by a Sleeper. You are in a pod.
>Dammit
Sorry, I don't understand.

Edited by: crockett EXE on 25/02/2009 01:47:00 It's not really that new of a concept. I've been toying with learning to build browser based 3d games for awhile now. I own a license to the same game engine as cartoon network is using on Fusion fall, but the programing side of it really hinders me as a hobbyist.
There are a lot of small companies whom have been working with this stuff for a few years now. Quake is just the first game to go mainstream with it.
The game that got me intrested in this stuff was Phosphor which is a demo that was done probly 2 years or so ago using shockwave.
http://www2.rasterwerks.com/game/phosphor/beta1.asp
I will say this, a EVE style game is possiable with the engine I'm using but not on the sacle of EVE with 40k players. However on the actual game dynamics and playstyle is possiable via a browser baised game eninge, given you had the team to build it.
It really is amazing what can be done with these newer broswer engines and I do think it's the future of PC gaming because the games are nolonger limited by the type of system.. (ie apple, PC, linux or what ever..)

You are in wormhole space. You are likely to be pwned by a Sleeper.

Probably the best known of all the countless browser based eves. Although they usually only cover the 0.0 part of the game. ___
