Ok yesterday I posted some thoughts on the direction of CCPGÇÖs marketing endeavor concerning Eve Online. ItGÇÖs genuine intent was to stimulate there creative juces in regards to marketing, it apparently struck a nerve, and CCP promptly banned the thread.
First thing I would like to say, is IGÇÖm not looking for any handouts from CCP, as I seriously do not need them, nor want them. What my goal is, is to stimulate the CCP guys to think outside of the box, and to keep this game interesting for us all.
With that said, my personal opinion is there should be a feature length motion picture in the works. I personally believe this could greatly increase CCPGÇÖs subscriptions, in both the short and long term. If this is not in the works, they should certainly consider it. Simple as that. Knowing what I know about the movie industry, I would be surprised if there arenGÇÖt many producers that wouldnGÇÖt pounce on this openly, create it, and pay serious royalties to CCP to have the opportunity to do it, and be part of it. I highly recommend they do this. It would be an interesting endeavor to most of us.
In regards to my Christmas comment, I celebrate Christmas, please feel free to celebrate what ever you choose to celebrate, or not, in reality I hold no real judgments. I ask respectfully to not be judged for celebrating as I do. My comment to CCP, is simple. If your going to gives us some new stuff? I would like to encourage CCP to think out side of the box. Just think what a really cool new one of a kind super combat cruiser would have on your clientele. Or anything that could temporarily throw a twist into the game, that no one is ready for. Like I said, the goal here, is to keep it interesting.
You know I have always thought it would be interesting to have a rat drop something totally over the top. A new car, all expenses paid, first class to fan fest. Something extraordinary. The PR impact of this would be priceless. I understand, this sort of thing might not be CCPGÇÖs thing. But just imagine the possibilities. Just take a second and think about it.
Personally IGÇÖm a little disappointed in the whole DUST thing. I think these land based mercGÇÖs, should have to be moved from planet to planet, by us the ship owners. Just my thoughts.
Also I was hoping you would consider expanding the combat to the stations at some point. So we can actually invade a station to get to someone were after. This is genuine feed back, not ranting and raving.
I also, as many of my fellow players, donGÇÖt really understand the whole walking in station thing, if were not able to have guns and shoot someone in the station.
IGÇÖm interested to know actual comments on these things. Honestly though, IGÇÖm really interested in hearing from people that find some of the things IGÇÖve mentioned interesting, and your thoughtGÇÖs on it.
Last thing, my English sucks, I know it. Please forgive the typos. I actually am the president of a medium size company. I have one secretary, and (3) assistants, all of which can spell, and have excellent English skills. They actually do edit all my formal documents and publications. LetGÇÖs just say I choose not to get them involved in my Eve online post. Like I said, please forgive the typos.

Not sure if trolling, but here goes:
A feature length film would be costly, and risky, to produce. Video game to film conversions rarely end in success.
Providing real world prizes for loot drops breaks immersion, and is gimmicky in the extreme. It likely would result in little to no net gain in subscriber base, and would almost certainly be interpreted as an act of desperation by the gaming press.

I'm sure Uwe Boll would probably be overjoyed at the concept of making a crappy b-movie out of Eve Online, whether or not this would be good for Eve Online is the point I would question.
Game to film conversions rarely end well, they rarely make a lot of money and often have low production values and instead trade purely on the games reputation to turn a net profit. And Eve doesn't even have that large of a reputation, very few studios would be willing to invest large amounts on such a risky venture and CCP simply lack the expertise to do it themselves.
CCP make games, not films.

I disagree. First off, it can't be a "B" Movie. It needs to be the real deal. AAAA. Secondly CCP wouldn't be funding it. That's a studio's job. CCP just needs to solicit it, they in fact will come, fund, and produce. CCP just needs to retain creative approval, that's a must.
As to CCP themselves, they do beautiful CGI. I've seen it, it's as good as any. |

Dunno man, I can't say I like any of your ideas except for a movie. But they so rarely turn out well (The latest Conan abomination that was done with Funcom, or Wing Commander or ... just about all of them anyone?) that it could do more harm than good. It is not an IP that has the same widespread appeal as some that have been translated to movies.

I think I speak for almost all of the EVE playerbase and also sane people when I say that CCP would be better advised spending the 50 or 60 million dollars this would take on improving EVE (which gets them ~$15 per month per subscriber) than making a film which would net them maybe $2-3 per person who went to see it. OK listen carefully, CCP doesn't pay for the Movie! Movie Studios will either take it on, or not. My guess is they'll jump at this. CCP gets money from the studio, doesn't pay money too the studio.
The only way CCP may actually fund something, is if they choose to provide the CGI content. But honestly they probably wouldn't even need to do that. And they'd end up with a **** film, taken on by a **** studio (Uwe Boll) that would seriously harm their image and reputation for probably minimal financial gain and substantial effort.

People booted CQ and WiS out the door and by the use of their wallets. At the same time is CCP trying to get a new game starting, which will face a lot of competition in the market in which it is trying to set a foot in. CCP should take the whole WiS stuff and pack it into DUST514.
Why this? When some are not willing to pay for WiS in EVE then they should not get it. On the other hand is DUST514 in need of every bit of the support it can get. Do not let DUST514 become yet another shooter. Let DUST514 players own all NPC stations and shall this be our gift to them for joining our universe. DUST514 will have more diversity than a regular shooter and gets a better chance of becoming a success. Even from a game development point of view does it make more sense, because of the elements WiS and DUST514 can share.
And the best part could be that those players who want to play EVE Online and DUST514 could get a price reduction when they subscribe for both games. It could be a win-win for all.
I have no need to get out of my pod and crawl around in some space ruins. Instead, I would love to hire a team of DUST514 players to do this for me.
This is my opinion. |

This goes to show that you know Jack all about movie production let alone what you are even talking about. Do you have any clue what a movie costs to make these days?
Wall-E 180,000,000.00 The Incredibles 92,000,000.00 Cars 2 - 200,000,000.00
Who's going to pay for that? Well you say the studio. NO, they don't. Studio's make the product, investors invest in it. Or did you not notice that all of the transformers are Chevy's, or that they focused on Will Smith's Vans in irobot, or that people in 5th element really liked McDonalds. Did you not notice that these same companies also have commercials with movie themes?
And the solicitation isn't true by any means either. Agents and producers are bombardment every day with sure fire and ground breaking scripts by both hacks and legitimate entities, and less than a percent of all those make it through. Rule #1 in life: Nothing is guaranteed. And just because you make a movie about something, doesn't mean it will attract new customers. If that were the case then STO should been murdering the gaming industry along with star wars.
Next, enough with the Christmas present crap. First of all that version of Christmas deals with the ghost of commercialism present. Gimme gimme gimme, I want I want I want. For the record CCP has given us quite a bit. For starters, did you know our expansions are free? Oh yeah, games like World of Warcraft and Guild wars charge you for each expansion. And we receive many in games items. In fact I still have a Jovian shuttle from years ago.
And the free car ****, all expense paid trips, again with the commercialism. Where the hell is all this money coming from? Do they have a chamber at CCP headquarters that has a vault door and piles of gold that the employees swim around in? Oh it will bring in more customers. Will it? Do you rush out and join every single contest giveaway that you see? I certainly don't. Kind of like playing the lottery, the taxing of the stupid.
Please, please, please, stop asking for the handouts. CCP doesn't owe you any more than they have given so far, which has been about a decade of awesome gaming. You want a free car, go steal one like the rest of us. Want a free trip, go look for somebody who is giving one away. Just stop begging for it here. They have better things to do than pamper your spoiled bastard child ass. |

Personally I think that for CCP the best bang for their buck would be to produce a series of short, animated (using the same tech they use to create their trailers) online episodes or movies.
The tools already exist, as does the necessary expertise. All that remains is a place (at a properly high resolution) to view them on the EVE is REAL site, a formal release on YouTube, and proper advertising.
Comparatively dirt cheap, able to use our Avatars tech for the people, and we already know they can choreograph some amazing action scenes.
This would do more to put the EVE Universe in the eyes of the general public than anything done to date, with the possible exception of the DUST release.
Combining keen wit with a ruthless plot and amazing special effects is a recipie for success, and if done as a series of shorts would build a great deal of anticipation for the next episode... which in turn leads to a desire to check out the source material.
From that point, if the following becomes large enough, perhaps an actual film done in the same fashion could be in the cards.
Stranger things have happened. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.
