OK here goes short and sweet...
the kill mail
the PLEX in question was earned through the buddy program and had been in my possession for under 3 hours
I would like to point out that if the PLEX was dropped it would not be an issue. If I had bought the PLEX I would be very sad but still not an issue. If I had bought the PLEX with ISK. I would be fine although aggravated. Specifically the reason I am upset is that I turned someone on to the game and NO ONE gets the reward.
Because the extreme and specific circumstances such as the aforementioned issue CCP has decided that our way of showing how much we REALLY appreciate when people encourage other people to try our amazing game. From this day forth we will now offer a "ball save" (such as in pinball) effect on certain redeemable rewards with actual CASH value acquired through the buddy system. In the case that a PLEX that is earned through the buddy program is DESTROYED within 12 hours and has been rendered nonredeemable you will now have the option to still redeem this item if it is with in the 12 hour period. In short we are the game masters we have ultimate power and we want you to know just how much we love you.

Might want to reword your post or put that paragraph in quotes or something because I had no idea what this was about until I'd read it three times.
I'm still not sure if that's something a GM actually said or if you made it up (a fantasy perhaps?) Either way quoting a GM is against the Terms of Service AFAIK. |

Assets, right click, redeem. Job done, anybody who moves a PLEX is a fool, anybody who moves a PLEX in an untanked noob ship is nearly as big a fool as this guy. As for getting a better price? Contracts, they're your friend.

Thank you, then this is simply a case of EVE working as intended. There is no reward without risk.
First thing I do when I invite people to try EVE is tell them how unforgiving it is. Seems your situation is a perfect example to your friend!

To transport it to another location, possibly to sell for a higher price.

Why the **** do people fly around with PLEX in their holds?!? You know you can activate it from anywhere right? You know when you redeem it you get it in the hangar you are currently in right? You know that every ganker with a hard-on and a Tornado is scanning for them right? So WTF!?!? If you lose it you deserve it!

Working exactly as intended.
As people keep pointing out, there is no reason to move a PLEX if you intend to use it as a PLEX. The only reason to move it is if you intend to use it as an investment trade item, and if at that point you lose the PLEX for whatever reason, it is treated no different than any other investment trade item, including the risk of a total loss of that item.
Next time, use a wtftanked Orca. If nothing else because you can hide your failure.

THE POINT of HAVING PLEX to me IS to trade it not use it... just me... nuff said so thanks for all the comments about redeeming it... to me a half bil isk is much more attractive then more game time...
When something cool like getting someone into the game is part of the deal... it only makes sense to want to receive the reward and yes I understand I did receive it and lost it.
truth is I had no idea and had never heard of people doing this kind of thing... I do in fact live under a rock.
I went on to hear about some folks in the corp of my main that suicide ganked over 5 billion in PLEX that week from doing the very same thing.

i feel so wonderful basking in my stupidity... No its a good point I should have put up a contract or something... I was hasty and foolish... I had traveled from 4 or 5 systems over and had two clients open and was not paying attention to the second client bc I had finally gotten to a security enforced system... I was "Home Free" I relaxed and went about my business relying utterly on the confines of highsec to safely bring my baby home... a very sketchy yet successful run!!! I then returned to the second client and found myself in station with a pod and nearly had heart failure... I then checked the kill mail and found that well **** NO ONE GOT THE DAMN THING!!! my tears were indeed sweet... |

Redeem it in the station you are going to sell it on market. Don't move it around in fragile ships.
Never use the trade system, you will get scammed unless you know what you are doing. |

So you feel that if you get a reward and then get it blown up, because of stupidity, you should get another one of those rewards, just because you were stupid?
NO...
This only helps ccp and the player base? How so?
CCP gave you a free plex, you got it blown up, giving you another one wont help CCP, or the playerbase in general, just you...
The point of using a plex to trade is invalid, you could have still done that, had you redeemed it in a trade hub,
you would have had no problem selling it as you would not have had to travel with it.
The fact that you did not do a simple search for how this works before you redeemed it,
is not CCP's problem, it is a learning for you.
So learn from it, instead of asking CCP to put mechanisms in place to protect you from your own stupidity. |

I did this the first time I sold a plex, luckily I didn't get ganked. Afterwards, I learned to move to the location first before I redeemed the Plex. Or just redeem the Plex on my alt that lives in Jita.
This will be a good learning experience for you and your friend. At least you didn't lose 30 plex's like we have seen.

You tried to loose this plex on purpose, To bring this issue forward. And no, the GM,s and devs will not save your nor change this mechanic.
That thrasher had to scan you to know what was in your cargo hold. All though he could why would he attack a random noob ship for no reason. Either you were very foolish or he was very lucky.
Traveling gate to gate at zero in a noob ship means he wouldn't have had time to lock, scan and scram and gank you. You would have warped to soon for him to catch you.
Theres a myriad of things you could have done to protect yourself when moving this item. I have managed to move valuables many times through out empire, and low sec in a variety of non cloaked ships and had no problems.
Noob ships have such small sigs and are so agile, you must have put yourself in a situation to invite this.
You asked for it.
