It might of been because it was a PvP server and killing others is allowed. Just think of this game as a giant PvP server except your flagged all the time, even in town.

If I recall correctly, 'griefing' is an old, pre-CSS term for literally breaking a game -- moving or bumping through geometry, evading damage with mods, using auto-aim hacks, etc.
Is there any chance you mean to say, "fighting?" "Griefing" as a term has a very specific historical meaning -- cheating, as opposed to developer-sanctioned violence. |

Hey, that's where this thread is going. The OP might make such a huge impact, that ruthless and carefree CCP might change their evil ways and make empire a completely safe and crime free society.
Too long have the tears of these helpless victims gone unnoticed! Every system should be green across the board where upon entry you are greeted with open rainbow colored arms and teddyb.....

I see what you did there. But you're right. Whiny sobbing carebears are trying to turn this game into WoW and others that don't embrace non-consensual pvp.
OP, mark my words. You and your ilk are going to pay dearly for this drivel you call a forum post or "idea". This is the exact reason you get ganked all the time. With tears such free flowing as this, who needs onions!
BTW - You may not understand this or not, but we are making you a better EVE player by forcibly ejecting your pod from your ship. Eventually you'll either learn to effectively evade, play smarter, or fight back in a way that's conducive to the culture and way of life that EVE was designed for. This is not a theater-park game. It's not a single player game, either. This is all out war against real breathing people. Actions have consequences, and such is the nature of the sandbox. It should never change, nor should people like us ever bend to those who would try to corrupt our brethren with the disease of acute carebearititis. Post with your main or GTFO! |

It is not too late. There is help! Get into a cheap T1 cruiser and jump into the first belt or lowsec/null system you can and start shooting things. Keep doing this until you either exhaust 1/2 of your carebearing money or stop dying in hilarious ways. Extra points if you kill more than you lose. Once your eyes have been opened to the wonderful world of pvp, they can never be shut again. Go forth, and sin no more, dear carebear.

OP idea strikes me as... well intentioned but kind of absurd.
But... if you wanted to make something like this halfway plausible... change:
1) Unprovoked (criminal) kills occurring in 1.0 to 0.9 would result in CONCORD attacking the offender's pod as well, not just their ship. Or that a bounty for their pod be automatically posted by CONCORD after the destruction of their ship, open kill rights to everyone for 15 minutes etc etc, equal to the current insurance value of the destroyed ship at the time of it's destruction. Said bounty would be temporary and expire when kill rights do.
2) Unprovoked (criminal) kills occurring in 0.8 to 0.7 would result in CONCORD allowing open kill rights of the offender's ship and pod for 15 minutes, etc etc. No free bounty, however. Still, anyone can retaliate, regardless of affiliation.
3) Unprovoked (criminal) kills occurring in 0.6 to 0.5 would only provoke the usual, currently existing CONCORD response. However, victim (and their corp) would get 15 minutes of kill rights against the offender's ship and pod.
4) Sectors 0.4 to 0.1 are as previously, ergo no CONCORD response, but a 15 minute kill rights flag against the attacker's ship only would be given to the victim and their corp. Pod still off limits (which really just means potential security standing loss).
5) Null sec is still a free-fire zone as before.
Suicide ganking still possible, but the consequences would go up proportionately depending on where it is done, due to the risk to the would-be ganker's pod.
Addenum: Include a general overhaul of bounty system to forbid bounties from being collected by anyone in that target's alliance, to end bounty exploiting (ergo, having your friend blow you up and then splitting the reward). |

another forum post with replies from sociopaths stating "play teh game my way or gtfo.."
One day there will only be sociopaths left because all the high sec dwellers have left the game.
When that happens they can swim in, and drink, their own bile and poison.
Of course the subs they pay won't cover the costs that CCP have.. what will happen then ? |

Do you understand what you type ? Do you even play Eve ? (And if you do can you remember your first few months playing ?) You must be delusional if you think that ANY new player that joins Eve doesn;t need some help, somewhere.
But yeah, new people join Eve everyday.
Not a lot stay though. Otherwise the subscriptions would have passed the million mark over a year ago, given the hype and proclamations that were made when the 500k mark got busted. Further to that, I wonder how many of them still play. From the 500k I mean. Another thought on the same treadmill of doom would be on the subject of actual online gaming players. I log in and see the new launcher saying 38k players. I see it 4 times as I have 4 accounts...and that's usually during evening when the majority log in. If i have 4 accounts and using hte rule of thumb on that it means this game is supported for a total player base of about 12,000 people. During peak times. Chilling thoughts on the "reality" of a sandbox with no restrictions in this day and age where the internet runs globally and connects 9 billion people... or more.

New players do need help, and I'm currently helping some get past the learning curve right now, but most of them don't whine about the game using the term sociopaths like they actually know what the word means. They can actually figure things out and act on their own initiative with what they're taught and accept what the game is instead of crying about it and calling it 'griefing' or expect to be wrapped in cotton wool like other games do.

You recall incorrectly. CCP clearly defines griefing so that players will not be able to make up or "recall" their own definitions. It is ludicrously doubtful CCP uses a more-than decade old first person shooting game (or anything "pre-Eve") except Eve terms and Eve gameplay to define griefing rules for a far future space MMORPG.
You are correct, however, in implicating that CCP does not consider suicide ganking as griefing, since it is usually profitable and possible to avoid. However, repeatedly harassing the same player with no benefit would more than likely be considered griefing, especially if the player does not know better. CCP defines griefing here: http://support.eveonline.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=336
It is available for all players (including ganked ones) to read, and should clear up any questions or "historical recollections". The removal of insurance to suiciding ships is one feature implemented by CCP to discourage ganking, but it remains profitable, making it a valid gameplay tactic currently.
I DO find item 4 on this page to be interesting, though http://community.eveonline.com/pnp/terms.asp but that is in regards to rulebreaking, not necessarily ganking. Since constructive criticism is always better than "HTFU noob lol tears Im a pirat leave eve", I suggest the OP take some time to familiarize themselves with commonly accepted gameplay vs. griefing so there is less ambiguity, as your proposal is unlikely to be implemented.

Criminal game play isn't a bad thing that should be discouraged though excessive penalties. It is normal, healthy gameplay that is perfectly acceptable.
Highsec does not need anti-PVP game mechanics to make carebears safer as the quantity of ships destroyed in PVP in highsec is laughably small, what it needs is pro-PVP mechanics that introduce more opportunities for PVP to occur during the course of non-PVP gameplay.
Just putting it out there. |
