i'm trying to work out a build for exploration or wormholes, we don't wanna leave anything behind. i doubt the ai will try and pop me since i wont be doing much, maybe a web or two that's it.
i do want it to have some tank though, so i'm fitting a dcu on it, and 2 hull reppers. now i've only ever flown caldari ships so i know next to nothing about non-shield tanking, so i'm a bit confused as to why eft is saying i only have 19 defense efficiency with 2 large reppers. help prx

yarr... just realized large hull reppers do 100 a cycle and armor reppers do 800...
it's too bad, orca has 13k shields, 5k armor, and 46k structure :T

Edited by: shavada on 03/03/2009 07:57:55 It seems the Orca really isn't meant for armor tanking if you look at its powergrid so yea if you want some resilience I'd go for what was said above as a buffer tbh (btw with 2 invulns you can already passive shieldtank a few frigs) Only active tank that seems viable is a large Shield booster + amp and 2 invulns

Also, he doesn't want a mining build, but an exploration base build.
I think EWAR from an orca is foolish, btw.

If you take an orca anywhere near the sleeper npc you are going to lose it regardless of how much tank or ehp you kit it out with. The orcas role will be as a mobile pos to store supplies and to refit your ships. So the first thing your scout should do is make a deep safespot to warp your gang to so they can get organized as the scout goes on to explore the rest of the system.

I have my alt ready to rock with orca for worm holes, it should have the cargo bay to bring back a giant worm.
I will be using mine to cloak up and give my corpies and main a brand new inty 9of whish it holds loads and all rigged u).
So setup is all about staying hidden for me but very curiouse as to what u can do with it.. one thing that springs to mind is is an injector any use... its not like ull run out of cargo space quickly?

This.
I don't think the point of bringing an orca in is to provide combat support. Instead I view it as a mobile POS combined with a mining boost for those going in for the rare minerals in scannable belts.
Personally I'm concerned over tonnage. I think that for re-supply and re-fitting mass is probably better spent on indys carrying a small POS and the hangars you'll want to use to re-fit and re-supply. Additional benefit is found in the presence of a shield for resting in overnight.
That said I think a really mobile survey expedition could have good use for an orca.
Depends on what you want to do with it.
