I haven't had a lot of experience scanning out grav and other exploration sites, however i do know with the current system, if your looking for a certain type of site, u can find them with the specific scanners.
How do u find them with the new scanner system. from the quick look at it i got the other day, it seems to find everything and call them cosmic anomolies. not really handy if your a miner looking specifically for a grav site.
have i missed something?

they revamped scanning. now just one probe for sites and another probe for ships and such. using the map you can move your probes and get sites that way.

Atm there are only Anomalies and Signaturs.
Signaturs can be all from WH, Radar, Grav, ... Anomalies are allways small fighting sessons.
If you get closer to a Signatur you "should" get more accurat informations but all you get for the moment is Cosmic Signatur -> Cosmic Signatur -> Cosmic Signatur :(.

yeah i understand that, but are the new scanners going to report what type of site they are as well? i'd hate to rock up the wrong type of site in a hulk in the hope that it was a grav site

Currently there is no way, but greyscale said he's trying to sneak in the ability to filter sigs by sensor types. Hope he will make it, it' very hard to find a wh in wspace n the middle of tens of gravi/ladar sites.

While i agree with making wormholes a filterable signature, i personally think that filtering for "the best type of sig" makes the whole "exploration" pretty pointless. If you want the good stuff, you have to invest some time and even luck. Poor radar sites...

Displaying the signal type (grav, radar) etc in the "Group" column is now working. It won't be filterable until after release, but you can visually distinguish them at least now. Also, for the first build where this is showing up on SiSi it's likely that all "Unknown" sites will show up as "Gravimetric"; this is something that we've fixed already internally.

i see your point, but probes will still be used in normal space as a means of finding specific sites. e.g. grav for us miners :)

Edited by: Mish''Kala on 03/03/2009 12:51:59 Can i put forward thet we go with the old 'Red Dwarf' definitions of unknow spacial objects. Is it s Wibbly Thing, or a Swirly Thing?
Edit. Great news on the fixes. Thanks. Keep it up :)

There is a bug with scanning... Once first Scan results are recieved, the window with results do not updating after futher scans. Closing and reopening the scanning window do not helps, it just do not opening anymore. So, basically, after each scanning you have to relog.

Awesome. Will wormholes get their own signature section to distinguish them too?

It doesn't appear until you get a stronger hit, same as with ships.

Makes little sense anyway, as scanning is again broken in general. Scanner results do not refresh, (or they refresh in a manner hard to understand). After relocating probes you get the same results. You can even see "result spheres" or "result rings" from previous iterations, way outside current scan range. Also, I see filters working now. Just they aren't refreshing window as well. If you put anomaly filter on first scan, you will get only anomalies, thanks. But changing filter to signatures does nothing, even after scanning again, you see previous list of anomalies. If you make first scan with signatures filter, it happens vice versa.
BR done.
