I been playing on the test server and started wondering why cant a carrier put an unmaned ship thats in space into its mantaince bay? is there any reason why the carrier has to eject from the carrier jump into the ship then dock it? I always figured docking was done by docking drones same as in stations or so the story lines say.

Drones have their own AI (if a bit crappy), a ship without a pilot is a dead ship.

but at stations when you dock are fully done by docking drones to make sure there are no accidents?

If the carrier maintenance bay works the same way as it does on the Orca (and I suspect it does), then you CAN scoop an unmanned ship into your maintenance bay as long as you're in range. Just right-click and choose 'Scoop to Maintenance Bay.' But then again I don't have a carrier, so who knows maybe it IS different for some reason...

Confirm it works the same way on a carrier. Well, it did in January the last time I did it. I think the required distance is 1500m.
To original poster: if you're still having difficulty, you've just learned what it means to be de-synched in a capital.

was the ship assembled or did you just jettison it out into space? Only assembled ships can go into the ship hangar. -------------------------- NOTR B A N A N A S |

If you jettison a ship into space it automatically assembles. Chances are he just wasn't in range. --- * your signature image is broken. Please use one that works - Fallout Who is dis moses meehee they talking about ? |

Edited by: modemel on 05/03/2009 08:37:49 Can you as carrier pilot mod the fittings on the ships in your bay? or can you somehow move yourself from the carrier directly into one of those ships ?
Also how can you decide who can dock and who can't? Or do you just scoop the ships after the pilot drops them nearby.
And how does refitting work? Do they dock with the ship, in the ship, in the carrier and get some fitting screen? or?
Later adding: Also if i dock at a station with the carrier with some ships in it's bay, and i leave the carrier and switch to another ship, can i access the carrier bay and move stuff around ?
Sorry to spam stupid questions :)

You have to be in the ship to fit it, luckily though you can use the maint bay on an unmanned ship as long as it's in the same corp as you (which it would be if you were the last one flying it)

Yes. Jettison the ship from the maint bay then board it. Leaving a capital ship floating about is a bad idea though.
Also how can you decide who can dock and who can't? Or do you just scoop the ships after the pilot drops them nearby. I believe all crop members can store ships inside of your maint bay, and you can set it up to allow fleet access.

Fly to within 1500 meters of the ship then right click on it and choose fitting, it will open the standard fitting interface and you can fit from any cargo container you have access to or even the corp hangar (if you are in the same corps and have take privileges at other)

Thanks for replying!
Too bad carriers don't have like a password or something... so you can just move all your ships in them, and re-ship in space... without being afraid to drop the carrier until you get back :(
I guess it's only a good idea to do it inside some pos shield
