LEAGUES:
I would like to propose a new type of organizations, made of corporations, alliances, and maybe individual pilots who share common ideals and are willing to work together to achieve some common goal, be it military, political, economical, or whatever. They won't have to leave their current corporation or alliance, and it would be possible to be a member of more than one League at the same time.
These would have a similar structure to alliances, but the League's control over its members would be much more "soft". They would be the way for organizations and individuals to declare their open support for one cause or their support for some ideals, but without compromising their way of playing, in-game work, etc.
The main goal of a League would be to formally incarnate the "the facto" unions that are to be created leaping over the game mechanics, as these are not supported. But also to create new "loose" unions that currently don't exist as it would be too difficult to organize and coordinate without an in-game incarnation. Then these organizations would be used to create events, meetings, operations... and to promote political activity and roleplaying in general. The potential for politics, diplomacy, roleplaying, and, above all else, fun, is obvious.
The main point of these organizations is that a corporation or pilot should be able to join more than one of these leagues, as, unlike alliances, membership hasn't such a strong meaning.
Let me help describe my idea with some basic examples of what I imagine as leagues:
-Anti Slavery League: An organization to band together all pilots who share their disconform with the despicable practice of slavery.
-Federation Supporters League: A league composed by Gallente loyalist organizations and individual pilots to speak with a single voice in the important matters regarding the Federation.
-Caldari Friends of Democracy: A group of pilots who would like to see a true democracy adopted in the State and peacefully work for this.
-Caldari Rebel Alliance: This entity represents a group of pilots and corporations who want to instigate a revolution and overthrow the current Caldari form of government, but by "active" means instead of political ones.
-United Pilots Aganist Piracy: Anti-pirate pilots of all races band together to share information against pirate activity, report incidents, and arrange hunting operations.
-South-Western Military Coalition: A league to incarnate, coordinate, and publicly represent a formal military coalition by alliances A, B and C to fight together against the invading alliance D.
-Tortuga Island: This organization bands together pirates, criminals, and outcasts who just want to show their pride by being pirates, and with the secondary goal of helping each other.
-Union of Engineers and Manufacturers: A sort of labor union to represent this collective in everything regarding their profession and to act as a mean of interacting with each other.
I also came with the idea that some leagues could name themselves "opposite" to others, so you can't be in both at the same time (for example, the Anti-Pirate league and the pirate one would be mutually excluyent). Another interesting idea is that leagues could be able to declare war on each other, but that opens many situations that should be carefully studied.
Anyway, I think this is a very interesting idea with a lot of potential. Hope some of you like it too! ------------------------------------- Kenji Noguchi, Caldari warrior. |

What do you get from something like this being ingame? Anyone can make up a forum based on common interest, or share a vent channel, and so on. Roleplaying serves an extremely tiny fraction of EVE players. You can make a chat channel for anything you want in game, including a "league." If you aren't going to use any of the features of being an alliance or corp for a league, what would they do ingame?
