One of the most jarring, least satisfying parts of eve for me is the way you get blown up. Some damage is coming in, whoops I should have had that harder on, oh crap am I in a pod nope now I seem to be in a station.
It's just very jarring and anticlimactic that the end of your epic space battle is a progress bar and then the station window.
Other games give you a short killshot, and sometimes even a glimpse of the jerk who nailed you. If I'm getting into a fight with someone, then I want to see a ship explode - if not the other guy's, then at least mine.
Give us some kind of pretty explosion, a killshot replay, something. |

While you will be watching replay of your ship exploding I will pod you and put your corpse in my freezer.
Learn how to be on proper end of gunz and you will find ships blowing up very rewarding. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Best reward for getting blown up is to lose skill points when the ship goes up in flames and this feature is no longer just for T3 only. Its a nice deserving reward to incensitive you to not lossing your ship and soul crushing kick to the nuts when you do.
Problem solved, EVE is now equally harsh to everyone. |

So while anything that interacts with the UI to make it harder to survive a near death experience is going to get shot down, it would be nice to be able to recover the recorder information & be able to playback the last few minutes of a fight without having been manually recording it on your own end. Alternatively, having the ability to turn on and off an inflight recorder would be great fun and if the videos were able to be exported it would make it much easier to throw together "howto" videos and the like. Even if I am looking at an enemy ship, then just when the ship explodes, the camera resets. Would be nice to be able to see the explosion close. And I don't like when the camera resets, that it doesn't remember how I last looked at my ship but the camera actually resets back all the way to default. |

oh yeah thats an awesome idea! a flight recorder box which drops together with the loot and can be picked up by people and playback the fight from the perspective of that person later in station. However I think its illusionary to get this feature anytime soon, because of heavy impact on database recording everything in all fights. |

You could also just run FRAPS and then the devs wouldn't have to code in anything. |

For example, there would be no way in FRAPS to capture the destruction of your own ship, since your screen instantly goes to a session change. EVE really needs a record/replay system. Getting into a duel and losing is fun - being blown up and not knowing where it came from is frustrating. People would be more willing to pvp if their death was informative and entertaining.
I started thinking about this based on James 315's excellent post on hunting pods in hisec. I think the way ship destruction works currently is broken - your ship disappears and is replaced with a wreck and a pod. However, due to the way lag works, it's possible to warp your pod out before being targeted.
I think it should work similar to other session changes, like jumping into a new system. Your pod should enter space cloaked and pause briefly to give all the clients time to catch up. As soon as you move, you drop cloak and are vulnerable. Doing this would give you room to collect your bearings and escape, as well as provide time to show the destruction of the players ship.
Yes, this would make pods more vulnerable. However, I think the fact that pods are currently invulnerable due to lag mechanics should be considered a bug. Warp bubbles and smartbombs aside, the way pods enter space is inconsistent with other cases where ships enter the grid. |
