this has a nice little '2' next to it, which at the bottom of the page says "acceptable usage policy". The one reason I would never get 50Mb, aside from the price, is the fact that if you do download at full speed, you will hit the cap limit in about 10 minutes. I've got the 50meg and can confirm there throttling FUP doesn't apply to it... yet at least.
I used to be a 1meg, then 4 meg then 10 and 25meg customer back when it was blueyonder... ahhh how I miss blueyonder.

Virgin has its good days and its bad days, they may throttle the connections every now and then but at leat they dont sent letter out saying please stop downloading stuff
Recnac 69days 569gig downloaded so far, lol, in fact i could be the sole reason of the virgin slow service

although saying that i swapped ISP, and they messed it up, when i called they said that robots were busy checking the lines! (i work for an ISP) it did make me chuckle alot :)

ALL of Virgins products - yes even the 50Mbps service - are traffic shaped at ALL times. You get throttled as per their website. IF you don't read the emails they sent about this (YES THEY DID) and you can't be arsed to check what you're paying for then I have a complete lack of sympathy.
Perhaps the recession will concentrate your tiny minds eh?

VM have been doing this for a long time. The sooner people face the fact that VM broadband sucks, the better.
Get a real ISP and you will never go back.
Yes, I have had VM broadband and I've never been back since I told them where to shove it and moved to Be.

Aside from your lovely self righteous trolling, Virgin's website has a section on this traffic management and its not currently being 'tested' in my area, officially at least.
I'd advise any other Virgin customers with the same issue, ring them on 151 from your virgin phone and complain.
I already have been offered a small rebate for my troubles and the guys in India have been very polite and helpful in assisting me so far.
As despite having upgraded some time ago I have been throttled as if I am on a 10mb connection and am now waiting for the issue to be dealt with :)

I was with NTL since 2002, I don't remember VM sending me a new T&C for me to sign when they took over.

When I go over my limit, we get an email stating we went over the limit and a few words basically stating: 'please try to be careful!'
No over charges, no speed limiting. Never ever once has any connection problem or patch problem ever been the fault of CCP, at least for me personally.

Don't wanna spoil the ISP bashing (for my 2 isk I hate BT and love Virgin) but has it occurred to anyone that it's patch day and anywhere up to 250 thousand people might be trying to patch this evening??

Bah most java based speedtests blow...and according to virgin themselves the only non-throttled service they offer is the 50meg one, and that is only a temp escape for those on it... ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

I hate to recommend this, but if you stop (or open a new download) your download wait a couple of minutes and restart you'll get 25% of your maximum download speed. (of course as things are given how long it will take to download you might as well simply wait until the cap expires, it lasts for 5 hours it seems.)
My initial download was chugging at 51kb/s after the hit once I restated the download its been steady at 300kb/s and I've downloaded the patch twice as the first download was corrupt
My problem turned out to be that certain details hadn't been updated on Virgins systems, hence I was capped as a 10mb user instead of as a 20mb one -----------------------------

Dial is 56Kbps. 26KBPS is 208Kbps (yes, the capitals matter. Downloads are typically rated by Kilobytes per second, 56k is 56 kilobits per second)
