I know i can't. I get about 4fps. Its unplayable. I have all settings turned down including turning bloom off. I just can't get it any faster when flying combat missions. I used to get 12-15 fps which was still playable. Now unless i can find some way to speed it up, it looks like i will have to quit. And thats too bad. I enjoyed this game.
How is it going for everyone else with a gma950. There must be a decent number of you, since it was an extremely popular video card for people who needed a portable computer with good battery life. If it is playable for you, please let me know what specs you have for the rest of your computer and what you have done to get it faster so I can hopefully hold out until fall when i will probably be getting a new computer if i can afford it.
I have c2d 2.0ghz 2gb ddr2 ram intel gma 950 windows xp

It's perfectly playable with the GMA X3100. I'll try with a 950 at work tomorrow.

I have a lappie with that chipset family. Its OK for L1/L2 missions. Forget it for actually playing the game properly. Annoying but what can you do? Quit or upgrade/adapt. It is annoying but frankly on classic client it was a case of blow up the red crosses anyway.
IMHO the LOD system in Eve could use more than a little work. Likewise the appallingly bad (performance-wise) lighting. Oh and AA. In fact Eve could really do with someone GOOD who isn't in NVidia's back pocket to rewrite the engine. From scratch. Really. It IS that inefficient.

I have one computer with GMA950 and one with GMA3300 and I wouldn't even tbh try playing Eve with either one. They are meant for office usage and such, not gaming. GMA950's capabilities are roughly where Geforce/ATI were in 2000 or so, and GMA3300 is perhaps around 2005 or so. Good for compositing, some simple stuff, but not for DX10 gaming. Period.

It kind of was shooting the red cross in missions before. But they were still playable and enjoyable. Not so anymore unfortunately. Also unfortunately i will probably have to quit. I don't think I can adapt to the framerate when its that slow.

I know exactly how you feel. Lappie is relegated to market and given the asinine in-station rendering (still rendered even when turned off) I can't play on mine either most days. I'd like to think there was a technical plan behind this but I know in reality there wasn't - the beancounters won.
I have no suggestions I'm afraid to say :(

Same situation here, I'm afraid. I'm using an integrated 945GM chipset and my previous 15fps have now dropped to 3-4fps rendering the game unplayable.
I use my laptop to run my second account along side my PC so it looks like I'll be cancelling my 2nd account.
Previously we had a low spec client and a high spec client. Now the low has been replaced with medium and the result is that medium spec users are now slightly happier and low spec users are cancelling their accounts cos they can't play the game anymore.
OK, I admit that my laptop's chipset it very weak, but was it REALLY necessary to buff up the classic client so much? Isn't that what the premium client is for?

What is this... "classic client"... you speak of? I hear it was killed off in the days of yore, back when the Apoc expansion came out, since CCP assumed most players didn't use calculators to run EVE...

Once again....they did it so that they could stop supporting 2 different clients and only support 1, which makes it MUCH easier to bugfix and also is much cheaper.

CCP has to design 2 separate models for every new thing they make, and also new wormhole effects would have to be redone too.
They decided it was taking too much time, and decided to drop it. Sucks for people with the GMA940/950s, but tbh those cards are beyond terrible, and CCP shouldn't have to work their asses off to support them.

Seriously... the GMA950 was never a "gaming" chipset - it was designed to be a low-cost graphics chip for people who use their laptops for "bean counting", writing letters to people and browsing the web.
The highest spec game you could have hoped to play on one was the free pinball game that came with XP/2000.
It was poor when released and is obsolete now. (I'd be surprised if station-spinning and marketeering are completely beyond its capabilities though as long as everthing is turned off and you are actually running in Premium Lite mode) ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

Well, it was playable before and it isn't now. I've just read the dev blog and, in all fairness, can't argue with their reasoning. It must be a pain in the backside developing for two clients.
Bit of a shame but there you go.

Edited by: Juwi Kotch on 10/03/2009 23:06:49 I have EVE installed on three different laptops, one a GMA945 Laptop. After reading about cancelling the low-end client it was clear to me that I wouldn't bother with updating the client to Apocrypha on that laptop.

Edited by: Othran on 10/03/2009 23:11:44 Its not a PITA to maintain two clients - especially one like Classic. It DOES cost more but I rather suspect that CCP are going to be quite shocked at the amount of accounts which don't get renewed due to this. If I were travelling more (have in past) I'd cancel my account as when you're in hotels 5 days a week what's the point in paying?
Yes I recognise that the chipset involved is dated. It is also in perhaps 40% of laptops being used NOW and I'm damn sure CCP NOW know more than most companies about how harsh this recession is going to be. Saying "get another laptop" is seriously dumb as who in their right mind would pay 1000+ Euros to play a game? In good times we all do dumb things but now? Dream on CCP.
