Your GFX card is awful and probably doesn't have very much memory.
Mine sucks too!

How do you tell what your FPS is?
I've been looking for a way to display my current FPS. in windowed mode vs Fullscreen.
I have a macbook pro 4GB Ram 2.4Ghz core II Duo and so far everyting seems to be running great.

Well I've a 24inch iMac 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM with the Radeon Graphics Card and the FPS is pittyful at just 14fps with everything turned down. Where as my late 2008 MacBook Pro with just 2Gb of RAM happily idles in station with nearly 60fps.
Something is not right with the Radeon Support.

Also, turn on the monitor (ctrl+shift+alt+m) and switch to the performance tab to get the FPS graph. Now turn of all UI windows (ctrl+tab), wait ~30 sec and turn them back on. See if you register a spike. My FPS goes from 15 to 40+. --

Dual qua-core 2.8ghz Mac Pro with 32gb RAM and an NVIDIA 8800 at 2560x1600 gives me about the same frame rate in the new Premium client that I got in the old classic client (around 12-22fps).
The classic client running in Windows XP in Parallels in OSX runs at about triple the frame rate (around 65fps) at the same resolution.
It's still beautiful. I'll probably settle for running in 1920x. --

Dude, you're using a not-so-bleeding edge GPU under an insane resolution so no wonder. We're struggling to get reasonable (above 15 FPS) framerates on lowest settings under "normal" (1440x900) resolutions ù and failing. --

I was getting 30-35 fps last night on my 2.4Ghz iMac. I have the ATI RADEON HD2600. I didn't get the chance to mess with the graphics presets. I normally run windowed mode but this morning I was full screen with max resolution. I went out to a couple of belts in system and ratted and it was definitely playable and about the same framerate as I was getting pre-Apocrypha. I'll have to tweak more tonight when I have time.

I have the same iMac (24" screen, 2.4 ghz, 4GB RAM, ATI 2600) and could not get more than 14fps no matter what settings I used.
The shinies are nice, but even with all of them turned off it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in performance. |

try lowering texture and or shader quality in the ESC menu.
i had the same with belts and POS shields. moving around through systems seems to have worked well with all settings to high. it's just the belts with the funky new roids and the POS shield FX that can bring your fps to a crawl (depending how close you zoomed in)

I get it. Up to 64FPS from 15.
I look for the confic file in "~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/" and set the following things:
[sdldrv] ;"ScreenDepth" = "32" "Desktop" = "0" "Enable3D" = "1" "ShowFPS" = "0" "DisplaySettingsDialog" = "1" <- change this from "0" to "1" "MultithreadedGL" = "0" "RedirectedControlComboKeys" = "Q"
Save and quit the textedit and restart eve. Now an CIDER Menu open before EVE starts, i disable "Use FBO BackBuffer" and click start. Eve launched and have wonderful 64 FPS with a lil reduced MaxSettings. nice. Maybe it isnt new and there is a other Post like this, but i cant find something like that. I hope it helps a long time because i dont know for what this option is and i am a Computernoob^^.
Maybe someone else can explain what i did, better than i. But i hope it help anyone with the same problems.

also no idea what this switch really dos. but it seems to have helped a lot.
yesterday i tried running 2 clients side by side and fps dropped to compeltely unplayable levels. with this option switched off fps seem to be in the region of what i saw with 2 classic clients.
NICE FIND!

Be warned that turning off FBOs may have undesired side effects. It's commonly used with both shader and render to texture operations (the latter of which I believe CCP may be using for CONCORD billboards). ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

This worked for me.
I was very concerned when I first installed Apochrypha, suddenly my iMac was EVE obsolete. Why am I forced to upgrade to the Premium Graphics Client when the only way to run the game is at LOWER quality graphics and LOWER speed ? Worse there was no way of going back to the old client.
iMac, 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, ATI 2600PRO, 320 GB drive.
My graphics are set to :-
Shadow Enabled...................NO Resource Cache enabled .....YES HDR.....................................NO BLOOM ...............................NO Shader Quality.....................HIGH Texture Quality...................HIGH
So:
I adjusted the following setting in the config file in the: /users/~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online preferences, as suggested by Caldari Citizen.
[x11drv] ... DesktopDoubleBuffered = Y amended to N Odd response at game close don't know if really useful.
AGPVertexRam = 128 amended to 256 No obvious effect.
NV_VAR = Y amended to N less stable FPS but faster overall.
ARB_VBO = Y amended to N
[d3dgl] AnisotropicTextureFiltering = Y amended to N Resolved Crash on Amending Graphics Settings
... DynamicVBO = Y amended to N Substantial Difference 33 - 65 fps
IndexVBO = Y amended to N
FBO = Y amended to N This is the switch that is affected by Caldari Citizens approach ...
This was not scientific, just a broad first approach ( I want to play EVE again). If you think you can be more rigorous then please be my guest.
I have amended the switches as above, one by one, incrementally, so that each affect is cumulative. Then removed some that did not seem to matter. As I said not scientific. Perhaps some settings are inappropriate or just unnecessary BUT I have increased my FPS from between 6 - 15fps to 30 - 65fps.
I had forgotten about these settings. Caldari citizens method works. By adusting the switch a dialog box is created at startup. All this box does is adjust another switch in the [d3dgl] field FBO lower down in the config file, so by setting this switch to N you will obtain the same effect without of course the pretty graphics box at startup. Still, kudos to CC for thinking of this approach.
Lastly, I sadly reduced the size of the Windows from 1920 X 1200 to 1344 x 840. Both clients now run at best at 30fps. OK better than the old client. All very interesting and it works properly but really CCP an upgrade should be what it says. I suggest you re-visit your strategic position regarding Shader Lvl 3. There is no way my new (ish) Mac will cope with that. I am not in the market for a new machine for at least 3 - 5 years. So what will change is the income derived from me. Very, very sad as this is an excellent game.

Hope this helps someone.

I confirm that disabling "Use FBO for Back Buffer roughly doubles the FPS I was getting on my 2007 iMac. 15fps at medium shaders medium textures now sits in the high 20s to low 30s and if I choose to lose a lot of the ship colours and set shaders to low it settles at the high 30's to low 40s.
Now what the heck have we done by setting "Use FBO for Back Buffer" to off?

It would be nice if we could bring this to the attention of an ISD Tech and see if we can get an official statement on the benefits/disadvantages of changing these "advanced" settings.
As the agent said in Music and Lyrics... "Shall we play 'Pros and Cons'?"

I would be happy with a constant rate of 30 fps, but lets face it, since we have to run the client under cider we are not going to get any great fps ever.

I see that Caldari mind-propaganda has already got to ariel jade...
What we have here is complete control over far more of the advanced graphics options in the new Premium Client, so once we understand them better we will be able to pick and choose which "eye candy" options are worth the performance hit. I will spend some time this afternoon having a look at the various options and will post accordingly.
In the meantime, if any CCP Tech stumbles across this thread, it would be most useful if you could offer some pointers as to what the more bizarrely named options affect.

Correct. Advantages of normal language config files. Just play around a bit. I have a stable arrangement and 2 clients operating. Have now got the primary char in full screen (windowed) and the alt with ALL options off and in the smallest window possible. It is much more playable like that. IF CCP could advise the best options it would be nice rather than the "suck it and see" approach. I do not envisage any permanent damage but this is new territory.
Word of advice. Do not play with the following:
VertexShaders - Caused a System wide crash! PixelShaders - Issues a warning on startup that your Syste is not compatible with EVE.

OK, here we go.
After umpteen "change something, log in, benchmark, log out and reset" attempts, I have zoomed in to FOUR lines in the config file that offer SIGNIFICANT frame-rate improvements. There were plenty of options that caused crashes when disabled or just did not have any appreciable effect at all, but I checked 'em all anyway.
Test System : Mid-2007 iMac 24" 2.8GHz dual core, 2Gb, ATI HD2600PRO 256Mb. OS X Leopard. All user applications closed except for Activity Monitor.
Game Settings : 1920x1200, Display Setup all options default. Effects all on except drone models. Miscellaneous Use LOD and Sun Occluded on, others off. Graphics Content all disabled, cache off. Shaders Medium, Textures Medium.
Test Location : Luse starbase in Gallente Civilian Shuttle. Undock, zoom in as close behind the shuttle as possible, wait for shuttle to stabilise its flight, Ctrl-F to check frame rate. Note : visible traffic in front of me was light during all these tests.
DEFAULT no changes : FPS 30, CPU 55%
desktopdoublebuffered "N" : no effect anisotropictexturefiltering "N" : no effect occlusionqueries "N" : no fps change but ship no longer occluded sun
dynamicvbo "N" : FPS 45-50 indexvbo "N" : FPS 36-39
dynamicvbo "N" AND indexvbo "N" : FPS 55-65, CPU 70%
This was the point at which I noticed that when the sun was visible, the frame rate was at the lower end of the two numbers and the FPS climbed as the sun was occluded by the ship.
fbo "N" : FPS 36-38 fbobackbuffer "0" FPS 35-36
fbo "N" AND fbobackbuffer "0" : FPS 36-38 (seems that fbobackbuffer is a subset of fbo)
Now for the big test... ALL of the above set at once...
dynamicvbo "N" AND indexvbo "N", fbo "N" AND fbobackbuffer "0" : FPS 80-95, CPU 85%
Yes, that is right - 80fps with the sun visible, 95fps when the sun was not on screen!!!
I then decided to fly around and have a look at how it changed..
In space outside station : FPS 80-95 In warp : FPS 50-55 In asteroid field : FPS 40-50 Zoomed in close to ONE ship against black background : FPS 110-120+ (there was a retriever pilot wondering why I was flying round him in a shuttle)
So - there you have it folks. Those four options ALONE can seriously boost the FPS although the processor then has to work harder to keep feeding the graphics card, so beware of the extra heat.
I was not able to detect ANY visual anomalies or differences, but I am sure our tech-minded folks can suggest what these settings may be affecting. It would be very nice to have "english" translations of what I have been turning off.
