Admit it, Abraxas! You were inspired by the track of (almost) the same name on the new Prodigy album when you named this chronicle! I can see right through you!
PS: Nice epilogue. :)

NAO!!!!!!! 'This last chronicle, written by Tony Gonzales and me' BAD!!! Further, the superfluous use of "that" is rather sickening. While not your fault, as it is a malady endemic to all English speaking countries, I would like to bring your attention to this fact. My hope in alerting you to this most despicable degradation is you will no longer succumb to the evil embrace of the word "that." More than half of the uses in this story arc could have been omitted with no change to the work, and half of the remainder could have been changed to other words, improving the clarity and strength of the piece. . . . I'm sorry. Finals week is very stressful for me, and I'm working on some term papers (I hate my English classes).
As for knowing if the world was doomed (as presented by one of the earliest posts), it's a mixed bag. If I was strong and healthy enough, I would have been helping load the drop ships, and knowledge would have made my job harder. Panicked humans cannot be reasoned with with anything other than force, and the level of force necessary to reason with a panicked mob would have been beyond my means. If I was not able to assist in loading the drop ships, then I would have wanted to know, so I could say goodbye. The information of imminent doom would erase all hope everything could be alright. Nietzsche was right, hope is the cruelest of all evils.
Back to praise, the arc was fantastic, Abraxas! The last one was especially riveting, with just glimpses into the horror of the evacuation of Seyllin. Writing about it could have easily taken chapters, or an entire book (though who would want to read an entire book of such horrors?). Jumping to Jamyl, WTH?! I hope the book answers my questions about where she came from (because the piece hints to some inhuman abilities).
Thank you, again, for writing such interesting articles. I look forward to your next. Put down the mirror and return to live With pain With sin With despair Live with penance in God's glory Lesson of Tobias and the Mirror Scriptures Verses26-29 |

Hardly fear, as the Joves have long lost all emotions, both good and bad.
If those Enheduanni ever get mentioned in official EVE canon again, it will be the damn end of me ever paying attention to the RP aspects of EVE again. There is too much fairytale around them. There is no point trying to create a story around your character, when Tony can just pop in and say "The Enheduanni makes your head explode" and you can do nothing about it if you wanted to continue your story.
The Enheduanni biggest feat was the killing off all motivation for players to generate their own RP content.

Definitely the best (series of) EVE Chronicle(s) I've read so far. Damn good work.
The quality of the chronicles is definitely improving with time and I'm loving it. The Seyllin story is very, very compelling.

If as mentioned below your talking about the eduniwhatchamicallits, if you haven't read the novel they arn't in it (well they might be, I think none of us are sure). If this storage place is the same as the place in the novel, then it was a very old facility built when man first came to New Eden.
Also the Sleepers might of left by creating wormholes them selves or worked with the other civilization. The damned spheres might be of Yan Jung design or Terran. We don't know till Tony or Abraxas tell us

I watched the EVE fest video of Tony talking about the IP, and I have to agree with him you only have to explain a little, and that sci-fi needs a little bit more, shall we say for lack of a better word 'magic'. I think Tony will only bring them back when he has it all figured out ( and he has minons of people around him knowing everything to prevent him making mistakes again). He will tell us some but not everything, just to make us accept that they can do this and doesn't need explaining, The Force anyone?

I will be eternally grateful to the friend who bought me the Empyrean novel for christmas. Previously i had only a passing interest in Eve, but this 'cycle' of stories has really inspired me to explore the RP side of Eve a lot more.
Thanks to authors and the content developers. You continue to make eve the most immersive and infinitely varied MMO i have ever played, and will continue to love. "Take me up in the arms of fate, with the strength of conviction and the hope of dreams" |

Originally by: Zitus New Eden isn't what earth is like now. Its supposed to be heart wrenchingly corrupt and devilish. I was always under the impression that life in New Eden really wasn't that great.
I was unaware life on Earth was governed by actions other than greed, corruption and devilishness. Nor was I aware life was really 'that great' for people outside of the first world (at least by the standards of the first world). In essence, I think life in New Eden is very similar to how life is here on Earth: A bag of sh!t with some nuggets of gold here and there.
We have a more polite term for the first two though, and the third doesn't stand a chance. You see on Earth people do things then... Profit!
The epic though does offer some insight into the End of the World storyline, if only tangentially.

Yes, we have a good reason for this. Several reasons, in fact. The one I can tell you right now is that we want the players to discover some of the story in-game. Another one should, lord willing and the creek don't rise, be revealed some time in the next few weeks.
ohhhh i wonder did they get the film deal :D

The chronicles could be interpreted in many ways. As we read, there are "gears inside gears" at so many levels it is difficult to grab how much they are embedded inside each other and how many levels are there.
The Sleepers started to accumulate the Isogen-5 for their purposes, but we don't know what they were. We don't know if they were actively amassing the Isogen-5 in the stockpiles or it was a "remote" operation started many years ago, in the forgotten past. Maybe they are Sleeping because they wanted to be live and awake when the stockpiles were big enough for their goal. Probably, to stockpile enough Isogen-5, they needed a very long time.
If we suppose that the stockpiles were ignited too early or not in the proper way, we can suppose that the effect is not exactly what the Sleepers wanted. Probably, if/when the stockpiles were large enough, they would have caused wormhole large and stable in all EVE. If you are a long lived race, maybe you want invest in a stable way to travel. Or maybe they wanted to recreate a very large wormhole able to reach the Milky Way or another Universe.
Jamyl Sarun and others are interested in this and other ancient's technologies. For all their god-like powers, they are only big player's in a bigger game where they don't control much.

I really liked this story... one interesting point.....if I HAD known the world was going to end, and i was say president foritan.. I certainly would have followed a different policy. For one thing, i would have only admitted onto the ships healthy people. There is no point getting on the ship those who are already suffering critical injuries. They would require greater space on the ship, specialised treatment, and still face a chance of dying. On the other hand, if they were just getting on board fit and healthy people; one could have packed them in like sardines, literally standing room only. There would be no need for beds for the sick. Basically, getting injured in the first wave raised one's likelihood of survival....

Its obvious that sleepers aren't the ancient race, but merely guard drones left by the ancient race. Thus the name sleeper meaning they are asleep and awaken to defend what they were created to defend.

The sleepers are one of 4 ancient races mentioned in the dead empires
Sleepers Talacon Yan Jung Takmahl
I think it was mentioned somewhere else the Enheduanni may have been an evolution of these 4 empires against the old jove republic and that the war takes place outside of the known current empires
Takmahl The Takmahl nation excelled in cybernetics and bio-engineering. ( all things genetic and implants)
The Talocan were masters of Spatial manipulation and Hypereuclidean Mathematics. ( wormhole generation, advanced jump technology, spatial distortion)
The Sleepers were masters of virtual reality, neural interfacing and cryotechnology. ( VR perhaps implant and cryotechnology means they may be in statis)
The Yan Jung nation possessed advanced gravitronic technology and force field theories ( almost seems to me that grativty control and perhaps shield technology).
The pint here is CCP have room to move - the 4 ancient empires may be the precurors to the jove enemy the Eluhndhi
2500 new systems this time round
3x 2500 more ccp were proposing in a dev blog they want 10k extra systems - this gives each future content expansion much room to move on the upside - tech 3 mining equipment, battleships, battlecruisers, perhaps new classes of t3 for future expansion
Sleepers just the beginning , this also puts off the jove for quite a few years.
Id like to see more news from eve news end on this going forward

Pottsey, you are an oddball and you want to roleplay an oddball, that is quite clear to all. The Enheduanni gives nothing for us to integrate into our characters, contrary to for example the Seyllin disaster where our characters can show stance and emotions.
The Enheduanni as a all-powerful and secret evil organization, that much is established in Theodicy. By being secret our characters does not even know they exist and therefore they can in no way be integrated into our characters history. And if your character somehow had some proof and knew about them, he would know them to be mankind's enemy number one and spend all his time tracking them down. That would of course make the Enheduanni let your head explode, because that is what any sensible all-powerful secret evil organization would do.
Mankind's enemy number one and we can not do anything against them AT ALL nor even know about them, you will not find many movies with that kind of plot. Like our character we should live in ignorant bliss about the existence of the Enheduanni, and expect that when the EVE server goes down for the last time we will see reappearance of the Enheduanni.
Even you Pottsey are trying to bend the logic in the background story for it to fit to your character. If the Enheduanni really existed your head would have exploded long time ago, when you drawed public attention towards them by using their name in your corporation name.
TL;DR: Story elements that are a secret to your character provides very poor roleplaying material for others to have their characters react and interact upon. Especially when these elements have the power to have your head explode for no reason at all. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

Let me use this point to gently remind people that the EVE storyline efforts aren't exclusively aimed at creating a RP environment for its players, with all the constraints that doing so would bring. We tell stories. Those who read them solely for RP value will find some pieces more useful than others, and thus should absorb what they like for their own use and then forget the rest.
Originally by: Letheeth Kayl Much gnashing of teeth
Grammar bows to usefulness, and since I wrote the first part of the story and Tony did all the rest I decided to list us in order. This last sentence was a run-on one that switched subjects, too, wasn't it? Thanks for the 'that' note.
Originally by: Tareen Kashaar Admit it, Abraxas! You were inspired by the track of (almost) the same name on the new Prodigy album when you named this chronicle! I can see right through you!
... now that you mention it, I did keep "Invaders Must Die" (the track, not the whole album) on near-constant repeat for some of those stories. Right now it's "Look to your Orb for the Warning", for a very different kind of story.
