this bugger thwarted me for a week. even with my BC, couldn't hit him past the mid shield range. sooo : i upgraded three turrets to medium with fusion M, then upgraded drones to medium hammerheads. mounted three standard launchers with bloodclaws and sabretooth. get in the 1500 range. trashed him in about 5 min ;) the key word here is : optimization.

Edited by: Kahdath on 06/03/2010 01:25:38 Beat him around 2 or 3 days after starting EVE for the very first time (sometime last week, in fact). I did it in an Incursus - cost me about 3.5 million in named ion blasters and faction ammo, but I found that orbiting at 500m prevented him from hitting at all and I used nearly two full clips of ammo taking down his insane shield-tank, but I did it.
Then again, I had veteran friends giving me advice on the best fit they could come up with for that enemy. I'd have had ridiculous problems without any advice.

I killed him solo after some reading and tweaking. Here is the Maller fit i used:
[Maller, Kill Dagan] Damage Control I Medium Armor Repairer I Energized Basic Magnetic Plating Energized Basic Magnetic Plating Heat Sink I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I
Cap Recharger I Cap Recharger I Cap Recharger I
Medium Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Medium Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S Medium Nosferatu I
I wasn't fast enough to get to optimal range, but I still eventually wore him out. I don't think this fit is good for anything else, it is such short range.

I think this particular mission was intended to test the newer pilots in eve. Having had this thread going for over a year it would suggest this mission is working as intended.
I am sure too, those that have had to solo this with very few skills have learned so much about dps and tanking.

Sorry for bring up an old post but if i'm not mistaken, Dagen's resist are picked when you do the part before that. where you choose what you want to do next.
And I believe you can do it more than once, I went back to the the sisters station (helping a friend kill Dagan) and I had the option to erase my memory of the epic arc and do it again :*( |

Hey, Im on this mission and stuck atm,
Im using a battlecruiser (harbinger) but ive only been playing for about a month so my skills arent as high as they could be. Anyways all i can do is get him down to about 50% shield where his regen kicks in, i picked the amar storyline, does that mean he has huge EM resist or something because my guns (6x Heavy afocal maser with UV + 4 Hammerheads) cant scratch him and using a nos doesnt seem to stop him from using his shield booster He does practicaly no damage to me but i got bored after about 30 mins of no progress on his shields

Hey,
I finally took him out with 5 Valkyrie I, in a Vexor. With Active Tanking, stable capacitor. It took me quite a while to kill it, though.
He seems he resists well EM and Thermal. Could probably have used Vespa I but since he's fast, I went for the Valkyries.

DAGAN IS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE.
Depending on the choice you made earlier in the arc. I'm an experienced player (I like to think) but when I rolled a new toon to play through the arc I had trouble with him in an Omen, simply because I chose a bad choice that gave him high EM and thermal resists. I beat him using cap boosters, a strong active tank, and kept chipping away at him with my pathetic lasers.

I've rolled two new characters and beaten Dagan with both using a Coercer the first time and Thrasher the second. Second character had about 120k in non learning skills at the time of combat.
Orbit Dagan with afterburner at 500m. Fit enough cap mods to be stable despite the neut. Small rep, pulsed, to take care of any damage you get closing distance. Then light up a rack of short range weapons and watch a movie for about ten minutes. Don't forget to bring lots of ammo and I found at least one damage mod was necessary (heat sink, gyrostab etc).
Thrasher fitting (as I remember it) High 7 x 200mm AutoCannon I (depleted uranium s, maybe, don't recall)
Mid Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters Small F-4a LD-Sulfate I Capacitor Charge Unit Small Shield Booster I
Low 2x Gyrostabilizer I

I faced Dagon on my fourth day of play. Lets just say I wasn't very good (still not). Anyway, I had my Tristan (which got me through the netire arc, though looting was a pain due to low cargo hold) with two blasters and two missile launchers. I didn't have any drones yet.
After a few seconds, I took out his escorts. Easy. I aproached him at a 45 degree angle, getting minor damage. I began to orbit at 1000. At this point I could go forever becasue he couldn't hit me. I think my top speed was around 300m/s.
It took me about an hour of constant firing to beat him out of shields... then I ran out of ammo.
After doing this twice, I took a friend who had a firgate as well. The two of us took a few seconds (ok, may have been a few minutes, but not too long) to kill him. I don't get it, but oh well.

Edited by: Frank Heisenberg on 17/05/2010 21:37:07 Edited by: Frank Heisenberg on 17/05/2010 21:36:13 Ok, after having tried any brute force on Dagan without success, took a glass of Whiskey and some minutes on the sofa to come to the solution how he can easily be killed solo with a Caldari newby char.
This guy lives from your cap, so easiest method would be to not feed him the energy that he awfully needs^^.
It took a passive tanked Caracal with assault launchers (Launchers don't need cap to fire) and active hardeners to drain the caracals cap after emptying it with repeating going into warp and breaking it off with CTRL + space. Keep the cap as low as possible by activating the hardeners when they fall off due to low cap and keep shooting. Once he used his own cap the boost his shields, he will drop in shields almost continuously while while trying to vamp you all the time. The counter in the middle shows when his vamp is active, reaching 0 will be the timespot when he sucks the cap, so try to time the activation of the hardeners to keep the cap at almost 0 when the grey bar hits 0.
If you receive too much damage from the smaller rats, kill them first and switch then to the 0 cap fitting. A neuter might have even better effect, if you can use it.
After 10 minutes he should be ready for pickup.

Originally by: Ariadne Grace Just did it solo in a Caracal using 5x Heavy Missle Launchers with Havocs and 1x Hammerhead I. Fitted a 10MN Afterburner and held him at 30km. Then it's just a waiting game. Took about an hour.
ps - once you've taken out the escort fleet, salvage. I didn't and by the time I was finished with Dagan the wrecks were gone.
This worked for me. I chose the Caldari option & had a Caracal with only 5x heavy missiles using havocs, a webifier, & only 1MN afterburner, a shield booster 1, & a capacitor extender. I orbited at 500m. I was still taking hits but I never lost half my shields. Took 15 minutes to pop him.
I'm not sure I would have figured this out on my own. Thanks, webs. :-)

He is a tough nut to crack for new players.
Finally got him after some changeouts:
Catalyst:
8x Modal Light Electron Particle Accelerator I Sm Antimatter Charge Hobgoblin I
Cap Recharger II Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters
Small Armor Repairer II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Beta Reactor Control Diagnostic System I
Only got down to 40% shields so I probably didn't need the Armor Repper. Likely can fit a mod to add punch to your blasters. Orbit set to 900m but actually was more around 1600m range flying at speed of 400-500 km/s. Character is 11 days old.
Pack some DPS, get in close and pull out your knife for this fight.

This thread was a huge help. Thanks everyone.
I'm in a Catalyst and was trying to take him down with small Railguns (150's and 125's) and it just wasn't happening. Upon reading this thread I switched up to blasters and close range....took awhile but I got him. Thanks again.
Here's what I used:
Catalyst 4 x Light Neutron Blaster I 1 x Anode Light Neutron Particle Cannon -both with Antimatter charges. Honestly, the much more expensive Anode Cannon didn't do much more damage than the regular light blaster. ---- 1 x Small Shield Booster II 1 x Cold-Gas I Arc jet Thruster ---- 1 x Small Armor Repairer (not used) 1 x 200mm Reinforced Nanofiber 1 x Mark I Generator
I orbited him at 500m (worked out to be 1200 ish though) and I used the shield booster as soon as my shields depleted to about 50% but never ran it long enough to deplete my capacitor as he'd nail me the second the thruster would cut out. Had to reload 2 or 3 times but never got into too much trouble as long as I was paying attention. I think I had a hobgoblin out too but I seriously doubt that did anything.

Edited by: Galthar Asbruke on 15/08/2010 14:45:45 I took him down with this fit:
[Caracal, Bolo] Power Diagnostic System I Damage Control I
10MN Afterburner I Large Shield Extender I Shield Recharger I 'Benefactor' I Ward Reconstructor Invulnerability Field I
Assault Missile Launcher I, Bloodclaw Light Missile Heavy Missile Launcher I, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher I, Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher I, Scourge Heavy Missile Assault Missile Launcher I, Bloodclaw Light Missile
Acolyte I x1 Hobgoblin I x1
Ran everything the whole time, orbited at 15k. Never went below 50% on my shields. Did take quite a bit of ammo, however.

This is absolutely rediculous. I have made more than 30 attempts now in a Catalyst. Trying to follow everybody's advice....
Tried webifier, afterburner, cap boosters, got 5 cannons (4 ion blasters (anti-matter) + 200 gatling (EMP))
Using 400mm armor plating.
Before I get near him my shields are down. I cannot keep him at 500m no matter what I do. (Webifier / afterburner)
I re-charge my shields and armor, come back and repeat.
I have spent all my money trying to upgrade stuff to kill him.
Tech 2 shield is useless since capacitor is drained so fast and shileds die after about 5 hits.

OK I worked out what I was doing wrong.
It is very simple. My fault for asking the wrong person for help.
After reading everything here I thought that it was extremely important to be within a range of about 500 metres. This way he could not hit you. I was selecting keep at range, 500m and I was still getting hit.
So, select "orbit", not "keep at range". His weakness is obviously he cannot target moving objects close up. But if you just tail him slowly he will own you.
I used a webifier to slow him down, then orbited him at around 1000 metres (I selected 500m but couldn't get that close) and he couldn't hit me at all.
High slots: 4 hybrid turrets loaded with anti-matter, 1 200mm gatling gun with EMP. Med slots: 1 webifier, 1 cap booster (using cap 100 * 3) low slots: Armor repairer (not needed since he cannot hit you if you orbit him), power diagnostic control, and 400mm steal plates tech 1
Plus I used a rigging to increase my powergrid by 10%. Rigs are similar to implants. Be warned. Once you equip it, you cannot remove it without destroying it first.
GL! This took me a good 3 hours at least :o

The secret is to fleet up with someone else. Get them to fly into the system and attack him first until he begins attacking back. Then have them warp out and he'll still be "looking" for the first guy and won't even shoot at you. I did this mission three times in a row with the same results every time. I fleeted up with two other low level guys and we helped each other beat the missions and shared the loot. After the first time we had him done for in under 5 minutes both times after that.

Yup, helped out someone with that mission, with a drake, hurricane, cynabal and a BS I don't remember coming in for the kill. I didn't even make it to the right system in time.
Any non-local channel will get people to help you within seconds, they will probably also look at your fit and, when treated properly, might help you in other missions when you are stuck. ------------------------------------- I like to fly around and shoot stuff.

Originally by: Footoo Rama Dagan's actually not that easy for new pilots...
My roommate banged his head against him for 2 or 3 weeks. He was a new pilot, and was doing the epic arc as a start to his eve career. He is not killable by a new pilot even in a Caldari cruiser running missiles. Nor in a fast orbiting desty loaded for bear with guns. This mission is more a level 2 with a level 3 ship in it. IMHO, I think CCP will lower his resists a bit, or make sure to tell new pilots to bring a friend.
I finally came over with a few hammerhead II's and took care of him... Even then his regen/resists made him feel like a 700million isk bounty BS... His damage is not that strong, but he has a pretty evil vamp on him.
I'd go along with this, I got him with an Ishkur and 5 Hobgoblin IIs, damage to me wasnt an issue but it took a disproportionate amount of time to break his tank, and that was all T2 fit with good gunnery skills (in comparioson to a noob) so no idea how you could do it as a noob in a frigate/cruiser - even then I started out thinking his tank wasnt going to go and I'd need to go get a BC fitted out or something!
