Just a few highly annoying bugs I found on the map. Why the map even changed is beyond me... and how CCP doesn't notice this makes me highly suspicious you just plain don't do anything but mission run... Anyways...
1) Map is now very "dim", the view ability of the map has decreased significantly, hard to read, hard to see certain systems, hard to view overlapping information.
2) Hard to select overlapping system!!! OMG how this one wasn't noticed is beyond me. In "flat" map mode selecting systems that are near to each other is NOW NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. WTF. O btw, no one uses the map unflattened ffs.
3) Selecting a region name no longer shows all the lines in that region!! Makes it VERY hard to navigate the map and view what systems connect with each other when all you can see is the damn constellation.
4) MAP SHORTCUTS ARE GONE! Ctrl + Scroll no longer brings you to the solar system map, you MUST hit the ship scanner first to go to the solar system map.
CCP learn how to make a patch that doesn't revamp (aka filling it with bugs) EVERY part of the game. Why was there changes to a fully functional map system?
This kind of crap is so frustrating

I do. However, all your other points are at least mostly true.

F10 is toggle on, toggle off. It doesn't give you the ability to manually choose how far you want to be zoomed out like ctrl+shift+Z and ztrl+z do.

The one constant in my years playing EVE has been the fact that the maps have worked correctly about 60% of the time. Just when they finally get all the blur and bugs out, a new patch comes along and breaks it all over again. It seems to be one of their more difficult features.

My first observation was that it seems to better represent the size of large blobs now without obscuring half a region in the process, so regarding your (1) I actually think it's more readable now. I'm glad the seamless map gimic is finally being abandoned (ironically just as the solar system map has a solid use, but it hasn't ever needed to be 'seamless' anyway). There's still issues, but there always has been, sounds like you're too attached to the old problems _

Yeah, the new map is pain to use. I am trying to find a lower population system to mine in without having to actually go there first before I look at the size of the average asteroid and I keep getting the system that has the larget blob nearby. I want to check out the number of asteroid fields to the availability of a station nearby to dump vs population and with another system blob blocking it is a pain when the map centers on the wrong one. I can only do it by clicking another option like system rating can I see the actual system info like planets/asteroids without opening the info screen for each system

Everything you said is completely true. CCP accidentally the whole map. And I _do_ use the map un-flattened. Just saying.

But it doesn't look like the star map is working as intended, so they are probably going to fix it.
And bring back CTRL+SCROLL and the zoom buttons. You can't remove features from the UI! If people complained about it, add an option to remove it but don't remove it for everyone.

You can't have the old map back because they ditched the old render engine. Same goes for the sound engine. You can't have it back either, so stop begging for it. They aren't going to throw away months of developer time just so you can have your nostalgia.
Instead report what you think is bugged and give them some time to fix it. Usually when stuff is rewritten it is because the old code had major limits (guessing shader 3/scene2 [to whatever that details - other than the new models] and limited flexibility and high maintenence of the sound engine [that vendor specific hardware acceleration stuff they removed] here). They don't just do it to screw you over.
That said, the map is one of those things that should have been fixed before the Apocrypha release. It's quite obvious they were on the clock and only fixed the absolutely neccessary things.

There is a toggle map button on the "world map control panel" too.
I agree with you, they needlessly broke it apart from one thing... They had to redo the map because they redid the rendering engine. Scene2 is the blame.
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!

Edited by: TEMHblu BOuH on 16/03/2009 05:31:35 It is about time the map got a proper update. I mean you know something's wrong when a lot of people prefer to use an out of game map instead.
Can we at least get a comprehensive jump planner which takes your skills/current ship into account? tia
Oh, maybe even the ability to save jump plans or specific routes?

another problem i don't think was mentioned is when you set a destination, the route tracing blip of light does not follow the route, but is off somewhere else on the map.
anyone else have this problem?

Spinning the star map around is tricky.seems to have gone back to an earlier incarnation I kind of remember. Also hovering over some systems, causes other systems close by to light up as if you were hovering over them instead, worse towards the outside of the map.
The light tracing out the jumps on the current course is also out of position so it appears detatched from the stars/jump lines
Map in Quantum rise was far superior , please role back star map changes. |

Yeah, agree big time on the ctrl-scroll shortcut, that one was just nice an intuitive.
Another thing gone is that you used to be able to get the standard right-click menu in the solarsystem map by doing so in a blank space. Now you can't, it's a lot more fiddly to navigate around the solar system from the map view only (there are good reasons for needing to do this).
Not reported as bugs since I have no way to know whether these are actually bugs or "undocumented features".

noho, u need to tell the programmers direcly (u have plenty now ) and slap them the in the face.
the the map is "broken" since you linked the "space"-view with the map view. aka u cant turn it around more then 380¦. I dont know why u changed it, is was good before. _______________________________________________

What exactly does QA do? From what I can tell it's not very much as they always miss even the simplest of things. :? CCP = Blizzard in training

Well my map is stuck on "Initializing Map" ("Applying Filter") with a seemingly random progress bar that jumps around all over the place without ever actually opening the map. Great.
Also, woe betide anyone who actually holds the right-mouse button down and moves the map because it'll never work properly after that, you'll move the mouse around and mouse-over systems your cursor is nowhere near, and best of all when you close the map if you were docked at the time your ship will no longer be at the centre of the screen - it'll be hidden away somewhere.
