Some of these are epic. When I get a chance, I'll write up our current adventures through sleeper space. It's been stressful, it's been joyous and it's definitely been profitable and challenging so far. I've had corpmates go from being ****ed off that we were scanning for days on end to telling me this was the best thing we've ever done as a corp. It's been a big rollercoaster ride so far, and it's only been a few days.
This is my favourite expansion to date. In one fell swoop, CCP re-envigorated exploration, deep space colonisation, piracy, mining (to a degree), lowsec (again to a degree) and NPCing. When they said sleeper encounters would be like PvP, they were right. It's not exactly the same and PvE fits are still best for it but the tactics, co-ordination and teamwork required are all there. I could not have forseen the expansion being this good, even after hearing the details. Every now and then, I get the urge to shout "****ING WORMHOLES, YEAAAAAH!" and I can't be the only one this excited :D.

I'll try to keep this short.
I entered my first wormhole out of highsec with my covert ops and quickly found a Moa and Cyclone in it. Using some ingenuity and scanning skills, I was able to place myself 10km from the two ships before members of my corporation promptly warped to me and dispatched them. We ran a few sites in the wormhole before decided it was time to leave. As the prober, I was the last one out. The wormhole decided to collapse after the second to last ship jumped, leaving me stranded.
I logged on the next day and began scanning. I found a wormhole to another wormhole system. I entered and found a hulk on scan. This means there must have been a wormhole out. I began scanning and found a wormhole on my first contact, very lucky. This wormhole led into even more dangerous w-space, so i decided it would be a better idea to log in my current w-space system.
I log back on to find two domis on scan. Someone yells in local and I respond. To make a long conversation short, he was stranded there without probes and no way out. I offered him the bookmark to the other wormhole that I had found earlier, but had to log again.
The next day I log on to find new people in the system. I begin scanning and after an hour I find my way out into highsec. I have no idea what happened to the two domi pilots. 45 minutes later I was back in w-space, where my corp has setup a POS and we are seeing where this takes us.

Another w sapce so this is aridia sys - w - w - w and then we find a link to a low sec system in verge vendor. POke me head out 30 angry FW peeps in there so we decide to tail it back to base. Did some gas mining in first system and yawn

My first interesting adventure.... Scanned out a worm hole a couple of jumps away from my low sec home system. Me and 2 mates went and killed some sleepers then i solo'd for awhile... left and my mate stayed in there probing out random stuff. I get over TS "Theres a domi in here", so jump in my mega and go after him with a mate and he says the ship is empty... i went in and tackled incase of overview bug and it was empty. so free domi for us with the worse fit ever. Shield tanked, Armour tanked, Artie Fit, No drones.
My guess is nubs going in with no probers and having to leave there ship to come back for it later.

I found 3 WH's in our home system, from wich one led to the drone-regions :P As the closest Outpost was 12 jumps out, I was alone, and farmed the drone BS's for a bit. The system was 34 jumps out. I'm hoping now to find one near to officer space :D
We also spend some time in dangerous W-space, it's doable if you have a fleet of RR BS's, but the sleepers screw your drones all the time, so we gave up quickly after the 1st one. Probed a magno site, and a Ladar site; these are rather easy to complete. No real encounters.
The most fun was yesterday though. A red carrier was spotted at a previous scanned WH. Easy to detect because they spammed the cyno right on top of the WH LOL. When he came back he didn't live long...

Edited by: Emily Ashley on 16/03/2009 16:22:20 My first experience with a WH wasn't even with unknown space. I scanned down a WH near my 0.0 home system. After I warp to it, I find out that it links directly to empire. Made some nice ISK from that one.
Last night a mate of mine was trying to find a route to empire from 0.0. 4 WH's later we had a route from 0.0 to JAN.
And I now have a new career in EVE.

Edited by: Midnight Firestarter on 16/03/2009 16:53:17 My master and his army of alts have been living in "Unknown Space" since patch day ....
Entered a High-Sec Wormhole with 2 x Coverts, 2 x Falcons, 2 x Command ships and a packed Orca and haven't looked back ....
I've gone from "Unknown" to "Dangerous" to "OMFG I want my mummy" and still going strong.
Had a few "unfriendly meetings" but nothing since going deep.
Can't seem to find another Wormhole but the 57 Gravemetric sites are not helping (Filter please CCP)
Never had so much fun, tension and paranoia in my life (no one in local, therefore there must be 97 ships at the closest planet waiting for me).
This has made Eve "As good as the old days" (less than 300 players) when everything was "big and scarey"
Thanks CCP

I battled constant disconnects the first day I had the patch installed to find and enter a wormhole. Then I turned around and left again without moving off of the wormhole. I didn't want to risk my implants just to look around. I started training my jump clone skill up another level as I had all the clones I could handle.
A few days later when EVE was more stable, I played around with wormholes in a destroyer. I tried sniping some sleepers but couldn't scratch their shields so I moved on to looking for more wormholes. I eventually found a pair of wormholes that left from the Genisis region and exited a few jumps out of Jita; a distance that would normally be about 20-25 jumps. I picked up a few items in Jita that would sell for more in Genisis and made the return trip.
Finally, yesterday I found a wormhole in my home system and after looking around I found some tempting ore. I decided an industrial ship with a miner and probe launcher would work best for getting the ore out in a usable amount and jumped in. Some rats had entered the belt so I had to go back with a hurricane to kill them.
All this time I was listening to my corp mates plan their expedition into wormhole space from the corp's base of operations in 0.0. They were almost ready to go when their prober said they found another wormhole inside the w-space they were already in. It connected to a system in Amarr low sec space. I hang out in Amarr space so I asked them what system. "Leerin" they said over vent. "Leerin? Can you spell that?" I responded. "L E R A N" the prober told me. "LERAN! I am 1 jump away from there!" I exclaimed. I quickly gave up on mining and joined them as they attacked a few sleeper sites. They were worried that my hurricane wouldn't be able to stand up to a beating like their battleships but I managed to avoid being targeted while taking out frigates for them.
We took out the 2 sleeper sites quickly but then couldn't find anything except gravametric sites. I suggested we could go to the wormhole I had been in that was only a jump away. I led them to the wormhole but had to go AFK for a while. They would jump through and I would join them when I got back. When I returned, I found I was drifting alone in space. The wormhole had closed.
Asking on vent I found that 1 of our guys hadn't made it through and he also hadn't bookmarked the wormhole back to 0.0 and had no probe launcher. I had both a probe launcher and bookmarks to the 0.0 wormhole from when I had first joined up with them so I would lead him out. I went through the wormhole in Leran first and he followed closely behind. It's a good thing too because the wormhole closed right after we were through. I warped us to the 0.0 exit and we both got out to known space safely.
Talking about it later on vent we all agreed it was the most fun we had had in weeks. I am not sure how the other guys got out but it sounded like they were safe. We are thinking of sending an extended expedition to see what living out there is like for days at a time.

Entered a wormhole in lo sec in my covops, buddy in vexor. Warped away from WH, buddy attacked by drake at WH. I warp back and he jumps back to lo sec. Falcon uncloaks. All russian players. I decide to look around, find the russians tower at a moon, warp to it and narrowly avoid 4 bubbles around it.
Warp back to worm hole, and this time right into a bubble set up by an abbadon and the drake. The abaddons drones uncloaks me, and I burn back out of the bubbles and recloak. Manage to go around behind the bubble and back to lo sec. Whew.

Next night, 4 of us decide to kill some sleepers, enter a wormhole in hi sec. Locate an anomoly and start blasting. In the group we have 2 BCs, AF and Cruiser, 2 of us with probe launchers. We kill some sleepers, loot and salvage. In local someone speaks up saying the WM just collapsed. Crap.
We manage to find another wormhole which goes to 0.0 Stain region. Initial scouting shows no one there, so we continue looking for a hi sec wormhole instead, and then clear a mag site. While continuing to look for a hi sec exit, a covops uncloaks that weve been seeing on scan. We decide theres no harm in asking for help, and he decides to bring friends to kill us.
A dictor shows up, so we warp off, decide to hit the Stain wormhole and see what happens. What happens is they brough about 20 friends and have 10 people camping the inside. We jump through, and into the other half of thier camp, plus bubbles. One of my mates logoffskis, another escapes the bubble and me in the BC, and the cruiser put up a fight to no avail. I almost take out a SB before waking up back in hi sec.

Well, my experience with WH's has been pretty positive so far... Went on 2 ops into WH space, I was in a Thorax for both. 1st op was me and 2 alliance mates in ravens and a corpie in a drake, FC gives go order and we engage the sleepers. Guess who they decide to primary? I'm sitting there under RR from my fleet mates, unable to do anything as I'm carrying full pvp fit (buffer, mag stabs, blasters) while my fleet mates next to me sling cruise missiles 80km over to the sleepers. After a while the sleepers close the gap and actually change targets. Great! Or so I thought. No sooner had I MWD'd up to the sleeper battleship, orbiting at 500m, activated my blasters, web, scram and sicced my drones on him, when the entire spawn reshifted it's agro back to me. I guess sleepers don't like webs and scrams??? I don't like tanking in a Thorax
The 2nd op was into a small WH, it wouldn't let battleships through, so after much confusion, we go in with my Thorax (slightly modified) and 2 myrms, 2 drakes, and a blackbird (+plus someone brought an alt to haul and salvage the goodies). I'm FC'ing and take us into combat site after combat site. Guess who the damn sleepers primary EVERY bloody time!
So once again I'm sitting there under the care of RR, tanking the spawn while my fleet mates chew through the sleeper spawns.
Why oh why they saw fit to continually primary me 80% of the time I don't know, most of the time I wasn't even in range to do anything
Hopefully in future ops I won't be holding agro in a Thorax...

My first trip into a wormhole was my first ever attempt at exploration, it was in caldari highsec. I'd found it with a probe launcher on a disposable hurricane I'd set up for the job; expecting to find a lot of people taking full advantage of the 0.0 nature of w-space.
On entry, together with some corpies(new players), we set to work on some easy sleeper sites and talked to some people in local who had also discovered the same wh. One of these other players was in a CNR (none of us were able to combat probe, so chance missed there).
After a while we decided to leave, but discovered the wormhole had collapsed. The CNR pilot then started panicking in local, because their prober had died to a harder sleeper spawn...
About 15 minutes later I'd probed down a new exit, into amarr lowsec. I sent my corpies out, and then had great difficulty deciding what value this exit wormhole now had to the trapped pilot. I had just barely extracted some tens of millions of isk out of him before some kindly (and annoying) other person in local offered the exit for free
My second trip into wh space was with a covops (just exploring), and I entered from Jita of all places. In there I found another wh into a different w-space system, and through that to ANOTHER system, where I encountered someone from syndicate with a POS in a system connecting to there. The route to jita for pos-refueling was sold for a low price because he was too worried that this was a trap, and to be honest that's a healthy attitude.
tl;dr : wormholes are excellent profit opportunities, while being fun at the same time

My first scanned wormhole turned out to be a 30-jump shortcut from aridia to domain, which was handy for the corp.
My second was into w-space, where I was surprised by the numbers of anomaly sites and other things I could find, so much so that I forgot to cloak when bookmarking one of the anomalies, and got insta-popped by a sleeper sentry.
I'm not sure about the kind of ship I'll go back in, I'll probably leave the covops at home in favour of something a bit more disposable, insurable and heavy-hitting, but more exploring is on the cards no doubt about that.

Originally by: Aeo IV I spent the first day or so flying around scanning down wormholes in k-space, getting use to it in a cruiser, once I had a taste of Sleepers, I decided on the second day to get my old Geddon, and I've been flying that ever sense.
Good fun, much more interesting compared to missions, it's just a pity the rewards seem to be so poor.
So what happened to the uber awards ccp promised?
Nothing, it's just that CCP is stupid and A) hasn't created enough common rarity (that is to say, many common items, therefore every item is both common, but because you have less chance of getting that item, they're more rare.) and B) the danger levels of these sleepers isn't balanced by equally fruitful rewards.
Now, it could be that within a few months, when t3 finally hits the market, that we'll see a lovely increase in value, but I doubt it.

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 18/03/2009 11:38:17 My initial experiences with W-Space - the criterion on which my continued subscription to EVE will be judged as all previous content has in the end proven insufficient to hold my interest:
The overall story is long, boring and uneventful, so here are the highlights (PROTIP: these are also long, boring, and uneventful):
- Realising the warp sound was gone, and whining about it.
- Thinking that the changes to probes would mean I would need a new probe launcher. Realising on route to a trade hub that this wasn't the case, looking in assets to find where I had left my covops, finding one in the station I just left, fitted and ready to go.
- Pottering around in various W-space systems in said covops. Helping a militia fleet leave W-Space at one point.
- Heading out on a proper expedition in an epic T1 fitted probing Brutix, wherein I intended to do something in W-Space other than pass through it.
My first encounter with Sleepers was in a small anomaly site, seeing how quickly they took care of my shields I relocated quickly. After finding that my ingress point had ceased to be, I set upon locating another route of escape, which proved rather more difficult than expected, and at once point thoroughly convinced me that there was no way out. Out of sheer boredom I warped to a gravimetric site and therein found some small frigates which my drones were able to dispatch while my battlecruiser floundered at the center of the melee, discharging antimatter in seemingly random directions in a pointless attempt at posing any threat to adversaries so small, fast and distant.
With my drones finishing dispatching the enemy I couldn't shoot, and having looted the loot I couldn't sell, I left the asteroid belt I couldn't mine, and logged out of the system I couldn't escape.
The next morning found me logging back in with a spare few minutes I had before work in the hopes I might be lucky enough to escape. Instead, having logged off at a particularly pretty gas cloud, I found a megathron about three metres off the port bow. Despite exiting the area as quickly as my distinctly outclassed ship could enter warp, I attracted the attention of said threat to my survival, and found through the ensuing conversation that he shared my predicament. While I had found my way in via gallente highsec, his point of origin was in 0.0. This simultaneously confirmed that there was indeed another wormhole, and that I was not a complete nubbins for not being able to find it. The one regard in which I fared better was that I had a probe launcher, and thus could effect my own escape, unlike my gas-harvesting friend who, being forced to wait for a corpmate in a prober to log back in, had taken to more laid back pursuits to pass the time. Unable to find a way out in the limited time available to me, I left the herbivorous battleship and its wayward pilot to his solitude, and returned to the real world. I never saw him again, and I can only hope he and his gas-filled hauler alt made it home.
That evening I found my way out, a path which led into the deepest reaches of 0.0 I had ever seen first hand; the southern edge of the map. The edge, though not any particular edge, being a place I had long intended to visit, I took it upon myself to have a look around. I found the rats to be good and the locals to be absent. Ratting was a novelty, it has been some time since I switch away from grind-based ISK generation. Time to move on, I once again called upon my free-warping friends, and in a complete reversal of fortune I found two more wormholes in the very system I had arrived in. Aside from the unusual local backdrops, the only sight of note was a POS, a confirmation that the more intrepid among us had begun to colonise this latest frontier. Having had no more interaction with them than to listen in on their conversations in local and steal a bookmark from them, I returned to the system which had 'taken' me here. -
