Just wondering how many actually roleplayed this game? On our corp-site, we have "news stories" covering events. But in-game the roleplaying is very sparse. Is this common?
Following news story covered both a trip to new eden, and the loss of one of our players. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Unexpected Trip to New Eden
Sometimes unexpected things happens. Sometimes...life...just takes an unexpected turn. But for something like this to happen so soon after the disappearance of Angus and Nemesiss, was almost too hard to bear.
In the early hours on August 12th, I was waken from slumber, by a code 5.3.8 - a distress call from the guard station. I immidiately called Rogue, who had the night watch, and asked what the 5.3.8 was about. The tone in Rogue's voice made me realise, even before he could muster anything cohearent, that this was serious.
He told me that Targeteer (director and close friend) had left him a holo-reel, and that I really should see it at once. I plugged in my PDA in the intercom and downloaded the file. I felt my heart beat increase as I whispered the word "play"...
"Dear friends...by the time you find this, I'll be well on my way", sitting in the*****pit of his Iteron IV, he had a suttle smile on his lips. "I know this is unexpected and I probably will regret this move, if I live to. But you know me...I just can't let things like this lie". His expression changed, and sadness overcame him. "The disappearance of Anguz made me realize how precious time really is. So now...now I'm heading to New Eden. I have already been posponing this too long...I believe I have found a way to activate the Eve Gate temporarily by biochemical means, and the curious boy/scientist inside me, just can't accept not knowing what is on the other side...I have to do this", a tear ran down his cheek and his voice got a little shaky. "I have fitted my iteron with the prototype P-CPU me and Noz have been working on. So I was able to fit two mwd's on this piece of junk. My hold is filled with the biochemical matter that will activate the jump hole. Please...don't try to stop me. My mind is made up...and...I'm already halfway there". He looked intensely at the camcorder one last time and said "I'll miss you all". The screen on my PDA flickered and the image disappeared.
I almost jumped out of bed, paged Noz and got dressed faster than I ever think I have gotten dressed before. I ran with speed to the hangar and as I entered, Noz was already there. He looked tired, I just said "it's Targeteer".
We entered an already patrol-fitted Vexor each, and plotted "New Eden" into the map-com. As we exited the station a glum silence tore the air. I sat in a whirlwind of thoughts as Noz listened to the holo-reel. None of us had ever been to New Eden or Eve Gate before. So we didn't quite know what to expect. Ofcourse we had both read reports on it. But it clearly isn't well enough documented.
Warping in 15 clicks, from the jumpgate to "The Promise Land" - just two jumps from Eden - we ran into a band of Blood Raiders. There were eight cruisers, and even the four Mallers could quite easily have taken us out at this range. Noz, made it to the gate and jumped through, but I was jammed. Slowly - or so it seemed - as I watched them tear away at my shield and then armor, I wondered if this was the end. I was paralyzed. But from the corner of my subconcious I noticed the jumpgate activate again, and I snapped out of it. Noz, came back...blazing! His dual 150, flickered like lightning across the abyss.
I re-ruted all the power to the engines. This way I could get distance to the enemy. This way my 250's would make me proud. As I sped up and hit the switch the guns roared through the hull. Noz took up position beside me and entered formation, and within minutes the battle was over.
We made the last two jumps severly beaten...but alive. And as we entered New eden we were awe struck. A clear ice-blue mass widened the sky. And in it's center was a flicker of white light, extruding in soft and mesmorizing waves. Right in front of us, approximately 500km away, a cargo container floated with ease. We approached it in silence.
Inside was a torn off piece of paper. The material was crude. On it was scratched in Targeteers boyish hand: "I did it..."

Good stuff.
You'd be surprised how many people RP in this game. Stop by the Intergalctic Summit sometime.

Trolls and elves in EVE? Never heard of them ... But in my sig you find a link to the RolePlay Summit which takes place roughly every 6 weeks - you might be interested in joining the next one. ____________________________________________________

Edited by: Haratu on 16/08/2004 11:29:12 I roleplay... there is this neat computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character who lives in the early twenty first century.
For more roleplay stuff check out the: intergalactic summit Scope News Eve-Guardian
Many Corps also have websites dedicated to roleplay, for example: PIE(Amarr) Gradient (Gallente/Minmatar) Drink Starsi (Caldari) Plus many more that are not mentioned or do not have websites.

VP tried to roleplay it, but kinda lost it when ccp did not want to help out or do anything regarding the roleplaying and ceremonial slaying of our ceo during xanadu wartime. roleplay in eve dosent seem very posible. My hatred can only grow. |

Wasn't the joke that the response was an IC (roleplayed) one to a question about roleplaying?

And there's an example right there where some people wouldn't know roleplaying if it hit them in the face, if there's no tiresome tirades a la Shakespeare with lots of 'thou' in them people don't acknowledge it as roleplaying.
We know, stating our policy we more often than not get 'oh another wiseguy, KOS!!!' End communication. Actually taking the time to communicate something is wasted on some as all they'll ever say in return is 'undock and die!' over and over as if it's the virtual parrot on their shoulders calling the shots.

Most roleplayers are dreadfully shallow, and know only one form of roleplaying; a Shakespearean character who types his messages in Queens English.
And ofcourse everyone is either an orphan out to avenge his long lost parents, a top secret bio-engineered cyborg of mass destruction or heir to the throne of some distant planet or what have you.All in all, roleplayers lack imagination and its all a load of tosh anyway.
(I know, i'm being cynical again. :-] )

I don't think there is much of a point to RP in-game, apart from participating in events. There's no real benefit to it and there's too many things that break immersion.
