Edited by: Elthario on 15/03/2009 23:38:23 Hey people,
recently i found myself browsing this forums and hell, it was a pain to read every project and determine if it's interesting or not. Pages over pages and well, this was the beginning of my idea.
My idea is to create a central forge for eve projects, a hosting space for all those fantastic projects the community comes up with. Whats the difference to post a thread about my project in here, you may ask yourself now. Thats a good question, but there are some points which this forum can't offer you.
It would have categories, where users will find the projects their interested in much faster. The site will provide SVN services and tools to organize your project more easily. You, as a developer would recieve a place to present your project.
After all, it would become much more clean and easier to use than browsing these forums.
Now, i require your input. Is this needed and would you use it? Also i'd like to read some constructive critic on my thoughts and how i could improve this project.
thanks El

It's a bit too late for such project I'm afraid. Issues so far: Most of the tools are to support private corporate needs thus not gonna be published to someone else's SVN. Those are free from such grasp, either have their own established SVN or using SourceForge and other similar services. In addition, the very nature of EVE-related development not going to unite in single development framework due to very different tools and approaches used. (That's my personal opinion, remember?) -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Yeah I don't see people moving their projects from where they currently have them either. I know I would be unlikely to move mine. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Designer of Yapeal for Eve API.

My issue would be what happens if you decide you don't want to play eve anymore ( not ever going to happen? Right?) or you loose interest in this project or any number of other things that could cause this to be shutdown.
There is somethings that you could do short of actually hosting projects. Project listing, forums (eve-dev.net use to do that, but its all about the killbaord now), developer recruitment, collaboration and feed back on projects. Now, if you use my suggestion i expect royalties, free advertisement to my projects, and higher project ranking for my projects

Hey again :)
if its listing and discussion/feedback site you need then im perfectly fine with that. My main point was to provide more accessibility to all the projects, and thats also provided with a site like that.
What do you other guys think about that?

Might be easier to start a thread here compiling this information and get it stickied than getting every existing project to come to some random website and put their info there.

Just had to point this out. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1006676
The idea is great but as someone else pointed out above it's a bit late in the game to try to make some place new. Plus most of the API projects can/already have links over at Eve-Dev. It probably could stand to have a page or pages added to it listing all the applications since it mainly has stuff for API libraries, etc but no reason it can't be expanded that's one great thing about a Wiki
What would be better is if everyone was to make sure to add and expanded on stuff over at Eve-Dev. I have done so as I've thought of stuff or had stuff to add. What might be very helpful is for people to check when they see an API project, new or old, in the forums or else where that there's information for them at Eve-Dev. If they don't find any links or descriptions there they should say something to the programmers on the project about adding the information or maybe help them out by getting the information and adding it for them as not all of them understand or always have the time to do it themselves.
Helping get the word out about the existing locations etc would probably be the most useful thing as a lot of people do seem to have a hard time finding stuff to start with until someone points them here or to some of the above sites.
So that my 2 Isks on the idea anyway -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Designer of Yapeal for Eve API.

This and this seems like nice places to provide an overview over what's there. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |
