Wonder why EVE had to be taken offline EVERY day when other progressive MMOS...wow, AOC, WAR, survive with one weekly downtime. Ridiculous.

I assume it's something to do with Eve not being a sharded server and all it being a more true to form full persistant world in some way.
Plus maybe that World of Warcraft can afford to do their servers different to not have daily downtimes. Dunno about others.
But yeah, would be awesome if only has a downtime say every monday.

Wow...I can't believe this is being asked like...all the time. When will people learn that managing this HUGE database is tough work and without daily maintenace, EVE would go black hole.
Answer: WoW, for instance, has a maximum of 1500-ish players on simultaneously on one shard. About a total of 3000-5000 accounts total. EVE has about 270 000 accounts total with over 50 000 simultaneous users, all accessing the database millions of times per day. Tell me the database that can handle that without maintenance (and without costing money the size of a countries total budget). ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? It's ok for eve to be completely different to other games when it suits you, but it must be exactly the same as other games, also when it suits you. Righto.

I know the server has to be maintained everyday for an hour, but does it over-run the 1 hour often or only on the days I take off work?

Read the developer response, pagedown a bit in the link that Tippia posted.
I have to say that has me worried a bit for the future, imagine if Eve had WoW numbers.

...and that they want the skill training reimbursed because the game did not remind them to set a skill. ^^
