Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my thread on the CCP Challenge.
I'll quickly introduce how this video came about and then explain a little about the CCP Challenge.
Introduction Roughly a month ago I split up with my (now ex) girlfriend. We'd been together for roughly a year or so and we split up for various different reasons.
So being the spiteful lady that she is, she decided to let herself into my house and steal my laptop computer (I presume my housemate let her in). This laptop actually belonged to work and it ended up with a totally avoidable criminal investigation. Anyway;
Whilst in posession of my laptop, she used my work email (set up through outlook) to reset my facebook, MSN and Eve online account passwords. Deface the first two and just lock me out of the last. I managed to regain access to my facebook and MSN, have them restored however due to CCP's complete lack of customer support, a fortnight down the line my accounts are STILL suspended.
The Challenge So, Apocrypha came out this week and I suggested to my new housemate (an old eve player) that we make a couple of trial accounts and have a bit of a emss about. With the release of the box set stating that EVE's "Award winning PVP Environment" values "Tactics over Skill points" we decided to put that to the test.
Could two new trial players really immerse themselves in the eve-online PVP experience straight out of the box?
Logging on for the first time it seems that the rookie help channel and newbcorp channel are awash with comments such as "No one can PVP when they first start playing" and "Every good PVPer has a cashcow behind them" - Those are actual quotes.
Well I'm pleased to say we have completed the video.
Our objectives were to:
- Become self sufficient, not have to rely on anyone but ourselves for isk to PVP
- Successfully PVP as soloers and as a duo in a range of scenarios
- Gain notoriety for our characters within our target region.
- Lock horns with much older players.
- Test CCP's theory for new characters
Now, I don't want to give too much away as to the results of this test. But please enjoy the video which is a satirical look at the options available to new pilots and the capabilities what only a 200k skillpoints or so can achieve.

Notes: - This thread is posted on behalf of my corpmate who has asked I create this thread. Please see first paragraph! - This video is not a direct attack on CVA however their space was chosen as it presented best opportunity for us. - All events in this video actually happened.
Please enjoy the video and all comments welcome :)

Good try.
Don't think it's testing CCP's claim though as you obviously have a decent amount of (RL, not SP) experience. Would have to both be a new player and have little SP to really have a solid claim there
That said, grats on finding so many targets, even if most of them were confused by the neutral status I suppose. NRDS is pretty easy to exploit sadly. Looks like you had fun.

Yep, but the actual players themselves aren't 2 days old - they must have a decent grasp of game mechanics to fight in 0.0, even 0.0 as full of new players and as welcoming to new players as Providence
Don't get me wrong, grats to them for getting kills, but we already know Rifters make for good ships when in the hands of a skilled pilot, even with low SP (I seem to remember a vid from a few years back with a solo rifter pirating much bigger ships in lowsec, forget the name)
Just saying it would be more convincing if they weren't alts but actual newbies
edit: found it Linkage

"Thanks for the feedback so far;
This video was created to demonstrate the possibility and either prove or disprove a large selling point for this game upon its boxset launch.
The fact that both Kel Gunrunner and I have been playing this game for a long time and are hopefully knowledgeable or familiar enough with EVE's combat mechanics, hopefully proves the statement that planning and tactics can overcome skillpoint limitations.
True character "Skill" or "PVP Experience" is almost impossible to quantify. Try to think of this video less as "Let's see how well WE do", and instead think of it as "This actually IS possible"
I hope that clears up any issues you have over the motivations for the video."

This can't even come close to what real new players experience. You have previous game experience. You know so much more then any new player could possibly know in two days of playing. Good video and all, but really, this is WAY off what a brand spanking new players with zero experience playing EVE can do.

not at all, the claim is skill, and brains, over skillpoints - this fits just fine with ccp's assertion that you can be effective with a bit of cunning and knowing what you're doing over having l33t SP or whatever the cool kids think they have.

and furthermore, theres nothing to stop a new player from beginning to build the experience necessary right away. the point is that skill points and the gear are not the barrier, its just the will to try and learn =D

I see your point but I respectfully have to disagree with you. Heres why, these two guys know about how the game works true, but whats to stop a two day old character getting into a corp that has exp pilots in and doing the same with some guidance from corp mates? Ok, some corps wont take on new pilots, but some will, Like mine for instance. I am not put off by newb questions and newb whines, I like it in fact.
I love this video because it goes a long way to proving CCP right and what I, and others have always known, you can be effective in PvP "out of the box". I shall be making this compulsory viewing for any newbs I come across.

really interesting vid to watch, but notice you have a lot of ingame experience that noobs dont have :)
afterall this vid confirmes my theory you dont need tons of sp and isks to get some decent pvp, some day you might fly 5h and dont find any proper targets, another day you'll find it after 5min
btw. rifter ftw :p ______________________________
