Funny, the impression I get is the OTHER way - people get an issue and assume it's a game issue or that it's going to affect everyone becuase CCP are crap, or they haven't tested, or $insert_winge_reason when it's just them that are having an issue and not something widespread.
They also like to rant about it, as if that helps :/
Quote: Poster: I miss classic Reply: Welcome to the 21st century loser.
Again, people WINGE!
They act as if this change was slammed upon them overnight with absolutely no warning whatsoever JUST because CCP have some personal vendetta against THEM.
I mean seriously, how many times do we need to say that the change was advertised for months, or that a ś20 graphics card from eBay will allow people to keep playing?
Get with the programme, seriously.
Quote: Poster: How does this work? Reply: You must be new...troll.
I disagee - people seem perfectly happy to answer newbie questions in the new player forum.
Can't say I've seen this behaviour.
Quote: Poster: Dear CCP, I dont like this or that.. Reply: How dare you question CCP...they are GODS!!!! I would sacrifice my b@$t@rd children to them if it weren't illegal
Uhuh.
And given the sheer amount of vitriol towards CCP over the skill queue deleting SP issues, lack of classic client, post-patch bugs, apparently lack of QA... exactly what forums have YOU been reading where people think CCP does no wrong and that they are gods?
Quote: Do you guys get a sense of enjoyment out of trashing other members? Believe it or not being on EVE for xyz number of years and having upteen million SP and owning an Orca and blah blah blah, does not make you better than anyone else.
I've been playing for 6 months and I don't own an Orca.
However, I understand that the forums (and indeed the game in general) has a certain "vibe" to it and a certain character.
Things are grown up here, people take the **** and have a laugh and in general this is a good game to play and the forums are a fun place to be.
I don't think there is newbie bashing and I don't think that people on the forums are *******s, but I *DO* think that the tolerance for stupidity is very low, and that's a good thing.
People get the smackdown because they ask questions without thinking, or because they want to winge, or because they are full of emorage.
As we say up here, deal wae it :)

I respond to each of your allegations and points in a calm, mature manner and then I get to the end and you sign your post off with all the finesse of a 12 year old.

Are you sure you're not a troll? *sniff* Smell like a troll..
As has already been stated, serious questions are usually asked and answered sensibly in other areas of the forums that are dedicated to purpose. Go ahead and take a look around...
The general forum seems to be the text based playground of EvE, where those that like such things get to spend all day winding people like you up. Although I don't participate very much I do find bits of it highly amusing. There are some decent and informative threads but when you find one you usually still need to mentally filter the silly comments out.
In closing; relax there little fella, its not all aimed at you. Toughen up that soft and delicate skin of yours and smile a bit. Its a playground, if you take it any more seriously than that you'll start... Oh Wait.
Thank you for all the tears, they were yummy.

There are polite and helpful people here and there are rude and callous people here.
The thing is, "here" is an internet spaceships forum so do try not to take it so seriously.
Generally though a well written, well thought-out topic will get similar replies (Unless of course it's in OOPE, but they don't mean any harm) and likewise for a poorly written topic you will receive poor replies, this isn't unique to EVE though so you must have experienced this behaviour before. Another thing that may be throwing some people is that we have a great group of people who regularly post on the forums and are quite tightly woven, everyone knows everyone here and they tend to get used to that. Think of it as a core of older players who live on the forums and will talk to each other about anything and everything with varying degrees of seriousness because this is how friends talk to each other, outsiders to the group may be expecting something more formal.
Anyway, do try to persevere with the forums because you'll find them a great place to talk about all aspects of EVE (And pretty much anything else too) with people who are generally quite interesting.
Good luck.

How to win friends and get lots of posts to your thread:
- Whine about: - Carriers having too many fighters - Speed of ships waaaay too fast - Missiles are clearly over powered - The joys of Local - Falcons need a nerf - Flashy reds pew pewing you in low sec
There are some others you really should try to avoid ;0
From my perspective, EVE players have a low threshold of 'dumb posts'.
Just read more than you write to start off and get into the groove. Its really quite nice here when you get with the programme.

You know, if you are going to spam up the board with pointless, useless comments...why bother?
Do you guys get a sense of enjoyment out of trashing other members? Believe it or not being on EVE for xyz number of years and having upteen million SP and owning an Orca and blah blah blah, does not make you better than anyone else.
I hope CCP shuts down EVE for a week. The mass suicides from all the withdrawal you jerks will experience will clean out the board and will be well worth it.

Most questions asked have been asked tons of times and people get annoyed at the same question 5 times a day every day for weeks. You can visit the help channel ingame, the newbie help subsection in the forums or use the search function, but nooooo you have to post in general discussion because you+re lazy and want to know right now.
There have been several helpful relies to topics posted by the boxset buyers as well which you did not mention(the helpfulness was shocking, not a single mocking post so...).
Not everyone is a monster like you'd like to portray it but 99% of the questions have already been analyzed several times and repetition is simething people are not fond of. The 'Fendahlian Collective' strikes again |

To be simple, it's half way to the point of the left faced right side rectangular coconut, and the ten hippos flying across the moon powered by a single rabbit known as George the third. All you have to do to enable the common sense mode, is ride through London on a uni-cycle upside down, firing rockets from your arse and singing "rocket man" by Elton John backwards in a tone more known to the Bee Gees.

There are many people in these forums who believe in their side of the argument with a passion that overides reason, and thus their ability to argue sensibly goes out of the window. It soons degenerates into whines and rants and plain name-calling. Some of it may be down to age, but the majority is just down to the immaturity of people in general.
The classic example of this is the pirates vs carebears whine, where people are just hostile to each other without any appreciation for the other sides arguments. It's just either dismissal or hatred ("you're a pirate, so you are a griefing gatecamper" or "love those carebear tears"). The nature of piracy does tend to inflame people anyway, but people have to appreciate the fact that piracy adds danger to the game, but you can't overdo it, because it will drive their targets away. Just like fishing, if you do it too much, there won't be any fish left.
This game does have an unhealthy side, and this is it. If you enjoy griefing people just a little bit too much, or if you spout abuse at people for daring to have an opinion that is different, I think its time you weaned yourself off the game a little. You're meant to have fun, not to launch into a blistering frenzy at the drop of a hat.
If you wish to speak on a subject, offer a point or counter-point and the reasons behind your opinion. If responding to someone, be polite and reasonable, and you will have more success. Nobody ever won an argument by saying "you're an idiot so you're argument is invalid". That just polarises the other person, and you will never convince them of anything.
Persuasion is a subtle art, not a blunt instrument.

These are not symmetrically opposite points of view however.
EG, "griefers" are usually not aiming to cause grief, they are just playing the game in a way that gets other players worked up. Most such "griefers" are generally very courteous in all channels, but that courtesy does not and should not extend to the game mechanics. Accusing, hating, shouting and flaming them isn't very rational, if they're just employing the tactics made available as part of the game.
It is, however, fairly rational to find amusement in someone crying over a game; they logged in to the game, expecting to find some enjoyment, they played, they PvPed, they lost, and instead of enjoying the experience, they got angry and upset - one wonders why they play games (especially harsh games like this) if they haven't grasped the fundamental principles of good sportsmanship.
Ah well!

And the 2009 award for Outstanding Achievement in the field of Sweeping Generalism goes to ... the OP. The award is a small troll-like figure wearing a tin-foil hat ;-)
As for your comment about "not drawing first blood", I would remind you that your original post essentially called everyone - even those of us who try to be helpful and constructive - 'jerkwads' and 'losers'.
Now, in general, I agree with your point - there are a lot of people posting in ways that I would consider unnecessarily offensive, insulting, childish etc - but you posted a criticism about it using the same methods, and seems only intended to provoke a negative response - anyone know the definition of 'troll'? ;-)
The internet is, unfortunately, like that due to its anonymity - many people say things here that they wouldn't say face-to-face. I wish it wasn't, just as I wish everyone could spell, use grammar properly and thought before they typed, but I have long come to terms with the fact that the internet is not the place to be if you want perfection.
I would suggest that you do the same ;-)

There was a time when the EVE forums were a very friendly, social environment to come to shoot the breeze about the game and help other players out. That time was .. well, years ago. I used to post on here like crazy, but generally try not not hit the forums these days because I've got better things to do than watch the flame posts eclipse the constructive ones.
And judging from the amount of old timers I've seen back away from the forums in the same way, I'm not alone.

Its been my experiance that alot of players in this game think its funny to slam somebody on the forums (or in game)as they can't be got bck at physically in RL, seriously would half of you smacktards even say that to someone in RL (I'll even provide a address to any of you willing to try )
It seems that the pixel is a safe place for idiots and goons, somewhere where they can flame away without getting told of by mommy or threatened with extra cores.
But hold in there, there are a few players hiding out there, mainly vets who are willing to help with serious answers.
But on the flip side, sometimes you see a post that just needs to be flamed (normaly for me a smacktard trying to be funny)
