I've seen the screenshots on the apocrypha website and they look astonishing. I have my Radeon 3870 set in game at full quality and still doesn't look like that.
So why not? |

Edited by: TimMc on 19/03/2009 08:36:37 Its not ingame, but it is using ingame models. The artists place them around, turn on HDR and AA (which we cannot) and then touch them up a bit.
Edit: Just looked at them... ok those are really nice. Maybe they are the original, high poly models. Games will use a low poly version but have bump maps and stuff based off these to make them look better.

Its a special client that suprisingly uses no aa at all. The trick is that it runs at like 9000x5000 and then they simply compress the image and *bam* the effect of uber aa without the official need to say they use or support it.

They are somekind of fake. They like to use a renderengine to show how their models / textures look. There is no way to let eve look like shown on the screenshots.

Actually, that is a kind of AA (Supersampling) that can be used on modern graphic cards. For instance, I'm running an 1680x0150 screen with 4x4 supersampling, which effectivly renders it at 6720x4200 and then resizes it down to the screen resolution.
The results of that aren't no where near the screenshot quality provided though: Without AA With 4x4 supersampling, anisotropic filtering, etc Funny thing is that supersampling helps EVE a lot, the lights at your ship look a lot clearer and stations more awesome. I still need to make decent screenshots someday.

Heh, you can get pretty close to the screenshot quality. I myself bought a new rig when trinity hit roughly a year ago, first when I noticed it wasn't as cool as the screenshots I was a bit disapointed but found this nifty program called nhancer to force HDR and AA in EVE and the results were awesome and FPS in the 40+ range (although not many ships on the scene, saw once 220 in station). But I quit using this "feature" because it only worked full screen, and I never play full screen.
EOS at a stargate EOS in space, not my favorite system background though By far the sexiest Ares I've ever seen Ares in space
These screenshots however do not appreciate the beuty of swiveling around the ships and seeing the shadows and lightning change, the Ares was a gem flying around a station.
And for some o-**** moments I recomend you go in a frigate, turn on advanced camera and get to a stargate or station, then zoom out with shift and ctrl (somehow don't remember exactly how) and see the sheer size of these behemoths. Makes scale in EVE so cool

As said in the thread already, the screenshots aren't rendered on a graphics card. Also the textures used are of a much higher detail than what is available in the normal client.
