Discussed in the Quantum Force Bomb thread (giant bomb of epic 'bump'), someone suggested that ships be given the same effect. This idea was aimed primarily at capital ships.
The idea is thus, any ship over mass X generates a shockwave upon jumping into a new system. (Rationale for giant jump-bubble thingy effect). This shockwave does no damage, but instead bumps every ship within its radius with a force of Y, reduced by the ship's distance from the jump in point. The force should be enough to send frigates off at a good 1000m/s or so, but only nudge battleships by about 100-150m/s.
The idea behind this is to give hot dropping a little more shock & awe value, and to have a little more fun with capitals.

This could be done with the sub-capital ships as well, but it would make empire a hellish mess of bumpage around gates, and woe betide the rookie that lands next to a freighter's jump in. I'm not saying it wouldn't be fun, just that it might be annoying if put on smaller ships. ùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùSigùùùùùùùùùùùùùù The magic behind Minmatar ships is the fact that there is only one type of Minmatar ship. The only variation is when they decide to stop building it. |

The bomb idea was good because it gave a meaning for a ship that atm is pretty useless in game.
Capitals don't rly need a buff. Nowadays it is easier to get 30 carrier to jump in (bumping an entire fleet 100k off) then getting 5 stealth bomber pilots in your gang for that purpose.
Sorry but I think this idea is bad. Capitals (specially carriers and MSs) have already so many roles they can do. They rly don't need a new one.

# 1 There is no real physical Matter in Space, this Shockwave wouldn't weaken noticeably. # 2 How is the Shockwave created in the first Place? You'd have to Acknowledge that Space is filled with Fluid like the Space of Species 8472 for that!
Any Shockwave that today's Spacecrafts create are caused by their tremendous Speed while racing through Earth's Atmosphere (which is Gas, superheated Gas (i.e. through Friction and Compression) enters a semiliquid State, Plasma).
It's all fun and Games 'till someone's broke :) - T'is an alt for playing the Forum - |

I agree, cap ships are shock and awe enough (especially to frig size ships) usually turn tail and run when one drops in anyhow.

gravitatonal pulse. just because space *seems* empty, doesn't mean it is. even emptiest of empty voids between galaxies have traces of matter.
when a ship warps, it also "carries" amount of space through warp, called warp bubble. when it exits warp, it starts to occupy equal amount of space. but what happens if something was already there? by using KISS principle, either jumper displaces or original displaces. basically, warp bubble expands from infinite point to match surrounding real-space properties, "pushing" everything nearby aside ("make some room for the newcomer"). technically, if someone jumps into a group, nobody moves, but space is "created" (not really; they brought it along) between that makes them further apart. also, by warping out, negative "pulling" effect is created.
:) got to love techno-babble.

you could also say that about exploding cap ships
the shockwave from the explosion should also have a pushing effect on nearby ships
