apparently i was mistaking when i first tried to learn how to use these. Can someone offer some help on the way Bombs are deployed? I've heard that the basic tactic is to act like a dive bomber but a little help would be nice.

Upon activating the module a bomb will fly out at a certain speed (can't give you exact figures at the moment) to about 15km away from you in a straight line.
Once it times out it explodes and damages everything within its radius.
It is possible to damage yourself with the bomb so be sure not to be in range of it yourself.
I don't know the exact specifics like "will it go off after you warp/die?" though.

From the eveolopedia:
Bombs may not be deployed in empire (0.0 only). Once a bomb has been deployed a detonation timer count down of 15 seconds begins. The bomb remains active even if the ship that launched it warps off and cannot be targeted, though it can be destroyed indirectly (e.g. with smartbombs).

This is up-to-date info? I can't remember exactly, but it seems you can target the bomb.

Bomb will travel through this direction with a speed and travel time (maybe 15 secs) you can see under bomb attributes. 4. After this timer bomb explode and make a lot of damage in a radius you can see under bomb attributes too. 5. Bombs have an damage resistance up to 99% of its own damage type, so you can travel in with several bombers and make your little doomsday if you use all the same damage type. 6. Bombs can be locked and can be killed by other damage type, if the foe reacts fast enough, but mostly they will not
Tactic : Make your math how far the drop point has to be from enemy to solve most damage. Close in cloaked to this point. Is there no point in front of you where you can warp to reduce speed to 0. Decloak, deploy bomb and warp out as fast as you can, you will be out of disruptor range. Maybe fit inertia stabs into low slots.

Upsides to bombs: Great at scattering gate camps; it's an instant panic button just because of fear factor
Most people don't have bombs added to their overview, and therefore will never know when they are deployed
...
Downsides to bombs: Not really worthwhile in anything but bomber groups, since they require an element of surprise and will hurt friendlies as much as enemies.
You can't deploy more than 4 bombs before they start destroying each other.
Bombs function a lot like torpedo's, seemingly huge damage potential but really starts diminishing once a target is moving or has a small signature. Because of this, the only thing a single bomb might kill is a stationary frig/T1 cruiser with it's mwd permarunning.
Their cost efficiency is extremely low... and you have to have sacrificed the more pragmatic cruise missile launcher for one.
The only way to use them is to put your target between you and a celestial body, align with said celestial, approach while cloaked until 15km away from target, decloak and deploy bomb, warp off. SB's don't align quick enough to really do it any other way without being scrammed. This means you won't get to enjoy the pretty fireworks, or really know if the enemy was destroyed.
Only the damage bombs are even worth considering, lock breakers and others just don't cut it. Suffer not the insufferable to live. |
