I thought it would be pretty obvious that different people have their stations setup different ways. Personally I always have my instation items and ships windows open as well as my cargo for my current ship. Thus if I open the fitting tool and started making adjustments, I would have to close/resize all of those windows just to see the effect on my ship.
Just because you view your station in one way doesn't mean everyone else views it the same.
But to answer your question, no, it doesn't need to be repeated. It was ignored the first time because it was ignorant.
Right, because some people have their windows covering their whole screen they needed to add a bloated new ship view to the fitting window. You know, personally, I don't like having the fitting window all over my screen when fitting a ship, but hey... different strokes right?
The point remains that the ship display was there, and if you wanted to see it for whatever reason you could easily rearrange your view to see it. Having a nice, compact fitting window would have been more convenient in general.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Edited by: Kessiaan on 20/03/2009 17:58:53 I actually like the new fitting window a lot. Fitting up 5-6 identical ships takes a lot less time that it used to, though it could be better.
If you could save online/offline information, drone bay, and hold status it would perfect.

I'm not justifying their execution, I am explaining why your counter argument is narrow minded. If you are going to make suggestions that are so narrow, you should not complain about other people's arguments or support since yours relates specifically to how you view the game.
We could keep talking about this all day but you're too busy reading my sig instead.

Well now here's the thing. If these "updates" constituted an unqualified improvement then people wouldn't have much ground to complain on. It's funny you cite an MSN example too. When Hotmail was recently "updated" it was a complete lowering of the quality of the service as some of the primary features I used were either completely removed or relegated to "Live" status or somesuch. Pray tell, why isn't being able to see extended mail header information part of a basic service?
Any rate, the same principle applies to EVE. It doesn't matter if it's new, if a person doesn't perceive it as an improvement with too few flaws to mitigate the level of improvement they will complain. Heck, even if an "update" breaks even compared to the old system they'll still complain.
While I personally don't find the new fitting window to be significantly worse than the previous window it would've been nice if CCP would have left the drag/drop whole setups worth of modules option available as well as the "drag/drop, I'll figure out where it's supposed to go and put it there" aspect of the old window.

Edited by: NxN on 20/03/2009 19:15:19 I think CPP did it to put something shiny on the retail box or in the manual.
I really liked the old fitting window much more, the new one is everything but functional - hard to read and hard to understand. Very pretty, no doubt, but that's it.
Saving fittings is nice, so perfect solution would be to have an option to enable/disable new fitting screen.
But don't think CPP gonna bow to our whining... guess we just gotta learn to live with new one /sigh

I agree with the op that the fittings window is FUBAR. The stats are shoved into the margins (took forever to find the drone bay/cargo bay capacity) All the stats are much smaller now, and thus harder for us with older eyes to read. The effective HPs are nice, but, as was mentioned earlier, if it doesn't include activated modules, its a bit useless. Also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but there were more slots where they added the rig slots on the old fittings window. Seems that adding 2 more of those slots (for the 5 subsystems) and allowing us the option of keeping the older, smaller, brighter, larger font fittings window would have been nice. Also, I would love to find a pilot setting up his t3 ship purely on how the diff subsystems make the ship look... isn't that kinda like leaving off a couple guns b/c you like the way the ship looks better with 3 guns than 5? New fittings window, looks great if you don't have to use it. I would make a sig, but that would take time away from hunting. |

anyone who does this is a moron. that includes OP, for those playing at home.
you can right click the modules in your hanger and go fit to active ship. do it repeatedly on a stack, and you can fit items to your ship in about 1/3 the time.

Tbh i think they did it so you can see how sexy your new t3 ships is gona be and the guy was clearly a stargate fan... im not a huge fan... deffo like the ship image but only really works for a t3 ships. and the circle is a bad idea imo its confusing i love straght lines and ... OBAMA SAID THERE WAS GONNA BE CHANGE!!
really like the saving setups idea, thats the win, EHP etc is nice.

I dont know, i think the fitting window is good. The only thing that grinds my gears currently is the fact you can only have 1 information window open at a time, and its auto-docked on to the market/chat window.
Id much rather have multiple info windows open at the same time, and undocked so I can compare a screen full of module pages at once...I dont mind spending 10 seconds closing 20 different windows, what i do mind is going back and forth on the market opening info windows, trying to memorize the stats of an item, then opening another for comparison.
I could be doing things the hard way of course, some1 could enlighten me...

Use shift+click or turn off the auto-use windows option in your client.
I vote to keep the new fitting window. It's sexy, functional, informative, and the new 3d view of the ship is perfect for people fitting tier3. I've not lost a single thing with the new design, but it's gained a breath of fresh air.

I do not hate the new fitting window, but I think it is too big. The pretty picture is redundant and has pushed the arcs for high-, mid- and low-slots all onto one, which makes a fitting less readable.
I like the new info regarding some of the ships attributes, but at the same time miss any information about a ship's offensive abilities - the DPS. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

People in countries not as wealthy as yours often cannot afford a better computer. I assume that you do not care about them and would not mind if English would again become the only spoken language in EVE either. The first English dictionary was released in 1755 after all. Am I right?

Ignorance is bliss.
My monthly income is approximately $360(US)/month. Out of that I have to pull $130 for rent plus more for food, EVE, and so on. In the end I have maybe $100/month of disposable income and more often than not Murphy (great demon Murphy, Murphy's laws, etc.) sees fit to take it.
I live in the US and with a yearly income of $4300 I am significantly below what politicians consider the "poverty line." I've been at this general level of income for the last 2 years now and when the new engine was released last year I was able to drop $75 or so on a Radeon x1650 for SM3.0 support.
Granted I don't live in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, any of the Russian break-away nations, anywhere on the continent of Africa, or any of the Middle-Eastern and/or Asian nations where the percentage of the wealth held by the few rich and powerful people exceeds the percentage in the US (IOW, the rich people have 99.9% of the money and not 99.5%), and granted I don't have a wife/husband and/or 1-10 children to support, but I can still afford it.
Frankly, no MMO should be marketed towards people below a certain level of disposable income, a level which generally means that the user's computer can be upgraded, whether by part or as a whole, from time to time and as such if those people choose to play such an MMO anyways they don't have much ground to stand on when complaining. It's hard on them, sure, but MMOs need to keep evolving and expanding as stagnation and stasis almost always result in death.
Besides, even though it was meant for in-game PvP and not a general statement about MMOs themselves, it's as the nano-douches used to say. Evolve or die.
___________
On a more on-topic note. The new fitting window would be nicer if we could control the lighting scheme in it. I love having a full 2.9 dimensional 359 degree view (seriously, until the camera doesn't stop at the top/bottom of a ship and ships can fly upside down instead of belly-flopping around like dead whales I maintain that the engine isn't 100% 3D or 360 degree) of my ship but it'd be nice if we could alter the lighting so we can see it better, or even just have prettier screenshots of it. ____________________

What are you on about? Some of the first Shader 2.0 cards are $15-$25 right now, because of how long that technology has been around. Now, I've been to multiple countries outside of the "English-speaking" ones and I can tell you that $15-$25 is something they would easily be able to accommodate for, or save over the course of a few months.
This entire debate of "OMG OLD ENGINE AND OLD TECHNOLOGY KEEP IT PLZ" is like people in this day and age still demanding that Shell and other gas stations provide coal for steam car engines ---------

Wow. I had NO idea people hated the new setup window so much. I mean... it's the SETUP WINDOW. Get over it. It's a small deal. So it messed up how you normally arrange your lil windows. Get a new setup. Who give a hoot?
I personally like it. If your computer can't handel it, well, all I know is I have a pretty crappy laptop and it works fine for me. If you can't see the tiny buttons, stop being old. And get some bifocals. As for why you can see the ship itself in the window, it's for Tech 3 ships, which change how they look. Which makes it a good idea.

The new fitting screen is OK. I want them to remove the now-redundant background "station view" however. Now that the fitting screen has it's own ship view, all it does is make my computer grind gears when it isn't needed(alt-tabbed out for instance or just playing the market docked in station). -- stuff -- |

As someone who has been on facebook since the days of it listing all the schools with access to it, and said list only being about 2-3 lines (I believe there were 24 or 30 universities that were able to use it), I'd kill for the older facebook layouts. Back when it was more than just a 'better' version of myspace.

The new fitting screen has some useful elements and overall it's a vast improvement. The glaring error is the redundancy of having your ship rendered in 3D twice on the same screen, it makes no sense and clutters things up. I for one preferred the old slot layouts.

While I'll agree that having two ships displayed with the fitting window open isn't such a good thing I'd like to point out that CCP might not have been able to remove the "station" ship and the "space" view is slightly better. Better meaning that you can look at your ship in a 360x360x358 degree view instead of the 360x360x179 view while docked because half of your camera arc on the Z axis is blocked for some odd reason. ____________________
