I was trying to make heads or tales of some of the forum moderation around here. Sometimes it looks like general book burnings are the order of the day. Some sense might be arising out of the ashes though I may be wrong. It seems that a lot of the anti goon threads are locked with the explanation that they don't belong here.
Could our master possibly be right. Should Anti or pro Goonswarm topics and comments be reserved for subforums like Crime and Punishment or CAOD. I personally agree and disagree. For one the Forum is a lot more conducive to real discussions which I like a lot but C and P is a bit young for Goons adult actions and ion the other hand again, aren't CAOD posts limited to people that are in Alliances or something like that?
The only other solution I can come up with is a Goon subforum where thats the only place their accounts and their alts can post. CCP could set the permissions so that interested parties could go down there and poke sticks through the cages at them. We did this with a man of hotblooded ethnicity. He was entertaining but kept trying to gouge out the eyes of anybody he disagreed with.
Maybe this same concept could clean up this potentially good forum? Meta34me |

But then they couldn't use their neutral alts to make crying posts about their own roam. Oh wait, I guess they do that there too... |

I agree it is very telling they only moderate negative ones, but since the event was something many people were involved with it does make sense for them to be here, for this weekend.
By Monday, which it already is here, they should begin moving them to CAOD. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

The event has already blown its proverbial load. There is no more narrative, just mopping up to do. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

I'd say 90% of the General Discussion posts belong in other sections, but nobody listens to me, so I'm not going to say it.
Every "CCP you should..." post goes in Features and Ideas. Fancy that. This entire "Burn Jita" (as if) thing belongs in In-Game Events and Gatherings....the list goes on and on. Your thread will be locked for mentioning "how the forum is moderated," so there's your freedom of speech on the world wide web gone to ground....leave it to the cutting edge thinkers in Iceland to dream up this level of organization. Enviable, really...to a pack rat. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

There needs to be some overlap on these topics and the general discussion forum is a good place for it, since it is specifically meant to be a discussion area between the players and it's sort of a hub of the forums, where everything worthwhile is discussed in some form and can be found in one place.
It also isn't a bad idea to discuss an idea with other players to gauge their reactions before posting in F&I with a more polished version of that idea. Similarly the in-game events forum might be a good place to organize an event, but if it is confined there, it isn't going to be really relevant to most of the players. The event, its affects and reactions to it have to be allowed to spread about a little and the various aspects allowed to be discussed in other relevant areas. Trying to put and keep everything in their exact proper categories would keep things neat, but would also be working against the flow of how these discussions naturally branch about. Things work a lot smoother if you just allow some leeway on these discussions and just moderate the more obvious cases and excesses.
PS. Freedom of speech doesn't really apply to private forums and even when it does apply it isn't absolute. You can say what you like, but you're also responsible for everything you said and have to deal with the consequenses.
