It would be great if CCP implemented a killmail API to complement the existing data feeds.
Using an API key (either the limited key, or maybe a new key generated for this specific purpose), a system could query for the complete combat activity for a pilot. The reply would be well formed XML, containing ID's for all types (pilot, alliances, items, etc) involved in the killmail.
What would be even more fantastic is to get this same data, but for a whole alliance.
And it would be completely awesome if a pilot could register an external URL to be automatically called by EVE (server or client) every time the pilot kills or is killed by something.
In other words: am I the only one completely baffled by how killboards currently have to parse those messy killmails instead of using something more well-formed and hopefully automated?

Psst...

Not quite everything you are asking for, but Kill data can be pulled from the API for both a character or an entire corp (with the correct director level keys).

Thanks, PyjamaSam -- I should have done my homework first. I was assuming something like this didn't exist because no killboard used it. Maybe requiring the full access key is asking a little too much?
I'll rephrase my request then: how about creating a limited API key specific for kill logs? This key would give access to the kill log of a single character and nothing else, giving users peace of mind to use this key without compromising any other information.
Too keep then "even more awesome" line: it would be completely awesome if users could generate API keys for selected functionality. Something like this:
Generate API Key:
* Account Information [ ] Account Characters
* Character Information for [ ] All Characters [ ] Single Character [ ] Balance [ ] Character Sheet [ ] Factional Warfare [ ] Industry Jobs [ ] Kill Mails [ ] Market Orders [ ] Medals [ ] Skills in Training [ ] Skill Queue [ ] Standings [ ] Wallet Journal [ ] Wallet Transactions
Users would be able then to generate multiple keys with access to different sets of information. A market tool could ask for a key allowing access to market orders and wallet info, a killboard would ask for a key allowing access to kill mails and nothing else -- information would be safely compartimentalized.

Don't see CCP changing the way the API works to add more API keys the extra work for them isn't worth it and though they haven't come right out and said it that I've seen, that seems to be their take on it too. IMHO people are way to paranoid about full API keys to start with. If your a director in a corporation I can see it maybe but for the average person there's less actual information available through the API then someone can figure out from looking stuff up in game or that you probably told someone in local while in Jita -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier.
