Can tipping is too easy. Don't get me wrong, I am not against it, I just think it is far too easy. In an effort to spice it up I think we should be able to place a smart bomb inside a container. This way, the potential can tipper has something genuine to worry about besides escaping from that angry miner's horde of mining drones.
It would work something like this: Pick a skill like say "Anchoring" and "Energy Pulse Weapons", if they were both at Level 1 then you could place a small smart bomb inside a container. If your skills in Energy Pulse weapons permit mediums and you have Anchoring 3, then you could place a medium smart bomb. If you have the skills for large smart bombs and Anchoring 5 then you can place large smart bombs.
Before the screaming starts, the smart bomb will now be outside your ship, if it goes off with you too close, you will also be damaged. All contents of the container are destroyed. If you hit a neutral player, you will be flagged for aggression, if it is in high sec, you could be targeted by Concord, i.e. normal rules apply. Smart bombs are fairly expensive, but perhaps not expensive enough to prevent this from being abused, so perhaps add more training requirements to increase the cost.
Now for the other side: the can tipper should be able to disarm a bomb in a container if he has the right skills and equipment. Say Hacking at an appropriate level and a code breaker installed. A failed disarming attempt has the predictable repercussion. Disarming from outside the blast radius of the bomb is not allowed.

This would probably hurt the miner more than the can flipper. I can just imagine some obnoxious idiot flying down an ice field/asteroid belt triggering everyone's booby trapped can just to cause some grief... Or some idiot miner accidentally triggering their own can.

No no no no no no noooooo, jet cans are not supposed to be used for mining, ergo you are not going to be safe with them. Deal with them.

Only if the same rules apply regarding aggro => the miner gets concorded.

Why would concord blow up the miner? You stole the bomb, the bomb blew you up. Players are allowed to shoot thieves.

Tipping a can sets your flag for aggression by the owner of the can, the miner is not going to be fragged by Concord unless the can hits a neutral. ( I see an angle there already....)

Griefer's already exist, that isn't an issue really, it won't change anything. As for tripping their own cans .... awww, geee, my heart bleeds.

Who said anything about making jet cans safe for mining? I was talking about making things interesting for can tippers.

I stated in the original post that all aggression rules still apply. You put one of these out in high sec and hit a neutral with it, Concord will come to visit you, and as stated above, if you tip the can, the aggression flag is set, it can blow YOU up without fear of Concord.
There IS a fairly large gotcha here with the neutral issue that I can see an exploit for already. If this was to be implemented, there might be workarounds for it.

We had this exact same discussion 1 month ago. It was teh 'red hand can' or some such. The whole thing was shot down because it would have been too easy to kill noobs with them or just get the person who launched them Concorded.
