up until the patch i used to be able to fit EVE on a 4gb thumb drive and take it to work if i needed to log on. now after the patch, the folder is around 4.5gb. Does anyone know if there are any files i could strip out which would allow me to fit it on my thumb drive again

Get an 8 gig thumbdrive.
They are pretty cheap now.

Works fine as long as you get yourself a fast one, although I'm not going to admit I'm addicted enough to always carry an EVE client with me... oh no.

It might be. Though with the dynamic model loading nowadays the only thing you will notice is that it would take a while for models to pop into existence after you have warped into a scene. And the startup may take a bit longer as well.
Also, turning on memory caching will help a lot when run from an usb drive. _

What if you can not get the
d3dx9_35.dll
installed on the target-computer. Is there a workaround for that... can you direct EVE to look for it on the removable media instead ? -----------------------------------------------

Can you format the thumbdrive as NTFS ? You'd only have to enable compression on some files to have it fit then.

Normally placing the d3d files in the same location as the EXEFile.exe will sort that, if not the DLL may require registering, in which you can register it on your system.
Best way of doing this is to copy it to your my documents for example, then do a regsvr32.exe "<path to dll>
For example: Start > Run Enter "cmd" > Hit Enter
Enter the following into the command prompt: regsvr32 "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\<dllname>"
Mind you, the DLL might not require registering, or its created under .NET which uses a completely different registering system (gaaaaay)
