I love it because Instead of me having to fit into its schedule, it can fit into mine unlike other games.. Also because when i stop playing, the game still goes on like the real world. Including, lots of aspects of the game challenge you. You can meet new people, get involved educated about other peoples cultures, etc. Also love it because the CCP staff are incredible straight up group of guys who are really involved with the players of the game. http://www.youtube.com/iwasnamedian |

I like EVE because it's player driven and CCP (mostly) listens to what we want. Because of how player driven it is you feel like you are actually part of the game rather than someone playing it.
All of the stories outside of Empire are the ones we shaped ourselves, everything little thing you do is going to effect someone in some way. If I blow someone up I may have caused them to receive a major set back, or I just pissed them off for a few minutes. In theory I could crash an entire market by tweaking some numbers around too.
I guess what a lot of people like about EVE is that it gives you power. |

This I have gathered from my 2 years of surfing other games and saying "Gee, I wish this game had this like Eve does"
I love the openness of Eve. Endgame here is not about being somewhere specific once you hit a max level. And while many try to claim that endgame is some place like 0.0, the truth is that endgame is what you make it. My endgame has changed several times in the last week because I decide to log in and try something new.
I love the lack of grind. Now granted I originally the break because I missioned until my eye's bled, but what I mean is that we don't have raids like the other games where you must be X build and you must be equipped with X set up, and be prepared to punch those memorized keystrokes for the next 45 minutes on your umpteenth raid this month as you work to earn points for that epic piece of armor.
I like how new ships do not cancel out the effectiveness of old ships. Despite everyone always making claims that x ship is broken, I actually find the overall line up to be quite in line with each other. It's not like that chest piece you got from the Dragon raid that is now moot because of the new chest piece that levels in the latest expansion thus forcing you to have to grind for that. To this day many of us fly T1 ships on a regular basis and wouldn't trade them for anything else.
I like the lack of levels/classes. This is so nice on so many levels. 1) You don't need to grind to make it just one more level for the night before you throw up your dinner and pass out from exhaustion. 2) You are never pinned to any particular role. 3) This makes your possibilities unlimited. Instead of saying 'this will be my spec at 50' you continue on and on and on always learning something new.
I enjoy that the game is virtually player ran. There have been so many games that I played where I would think it would be so much better if they allowed players to drop bases down that could be attacked and to let the players run the economy more than just a handle of power players farming blues. Honestly, how often do you really hear about power plays by mega guilds in other games?
I enjoyed many other games but in the end I found that so many of them were generally missing some little item, and that little item could usually be found in eve. |

single server mmorpg. IS the reason i love eve online. When I 1st starting playing 6000 online at a time was a big deal, and only 40,000 people had accounts. now we have 400,000 and I still don't have to tell my friends to move to my server, we don't have fight fights over space that has 100 other corps of it with 100 other corps fighting over it.
I haven't played eve in a looooong time, but it is still the only mmo I've ever felt like was really worth my time, effort, and support.

Because you can make a difference.
Alot of MMO's advertise your actions matter, but in the end it isn't, nothing ever truly changes, especially as they're all sharded.
Eve however is different, it matters truly, and I've experienced it first hand, mostly in little things, but sometimes you matter in the big ones, and that stays with you, knowing you affected the lives of many people around the globe, knowing you were part of that. |

EvE is the best game for true adventuring. It is all people everywhere, and in 0.0 it is only people. People can make the adventures not so dull. You never know what they will do. They could catch you in a spider bubble and destroy you or they could bump you so hard you go spinning for twenty kilometers!
The gameplay I find quite boring actually, what makes up for it is the way they let you play the game and interact with people! Although it seems like most people do not even enjoy talking in the game, maybe on the forums!
Either way it has only gotten better c:

after some nice and helpful gentlemen here repeatedly adviced me to go to Hello Kitty Online and I realized that it was free to play, I actually gave it a try (heck, I always thought this was a joke from South Park, never believed that something like this could really exist- more faith in humanity lost). I have to admit, HKO beats Eve in two aspects: 1. much smaller client, no lags at all 2. you start in a single room- and the door is actually working and you can leave this room! (I know, sounds incredible) proof
That being said, the distinct lack of spaceships and inability to ruin other players' days quickly drove me back to eve (tried to camp a door for several hours- but even though you start with an axe in your inventory, you can only use it to chop wood, not to gank other players-how lame)

I like Eve because it's the only MMO I currently know of that has potential.
Never played another MMO except for some UO years back as well as some MMOs betas, but never signed up for them when they were actually released.
To me, lots of Eve's unique features are now absolute must-haves for an MMO:
- Single Shard - No parallel instancing - Player driven market - Time-based skills progression - (somewhat) meaningful loss - The possibility of loss anywhere, anytime when undocked - Complexity (could be more though) - Graphical style not looking like it was taken from some cartoon series designed for squalid yobbo kids
If any of these requirements are not met, my interest in an MMO drops rapidly - if one or two are not met, I may sign up for a beta key and check it out, otherwise, I deem it not worth looking at.
Having that said, there's lots of room for improvement (a purpose for small gangs, isk faucet vs. sink rebalancing, nullsec revamp etc..etc...), but Eve's unique position is enough to keep me subscribed, especially with the devs working on the game again - we'll see - maybe I'll eventually even really play it again. You know... morons. |

Sometimes she tells me I do something wrong (just like any girlfriend does), and it always make me smile. I really feel she talks directly to me sometimes, and I try to talk back to her. As IGÇÖm checking out, a discussion of computer gaming ensues. I ask the small skinny person that is checking me out, If they have ever heard of Eve online? The small skinny person lights up, and starts telling me all about how much he loves the game, and how heGÇÖs a Pirate, and how they all ganged up on a carrier that bounced off a station in low sec, tried to ransom it, and finally just killed it. He went on & on to tell me how awesome the game was, how nasty his band of pirates were, how ruthless and all, and how they never cut anyone a break, and how dedicated they are to ruin just about everyoneGÇÖs day.
So, Looking down at this little guy, As IGÇÖm personally about 6GÇÖ4GÇ¥, and a solid 240Lbs, your, GÇ£Bla BlaGÇ¥ arenGÇÖt ya. That was my carrier you tried to ransom and killed.
I just gotta tell ya. The look of total, real life terror, in this guys face was truly priceless. To add to it, I had just purchased (2) new 60 LCD television sets. So he had to help me load purchase into the back of my pickup, in a parking lot.
I gotta tell ya, when this guy killed my carrier, man did he have a big mouth, I wish I could find the text and post it. He probably weighed 120lbs soaking wet.
So when, GÇ£WEGÇ¥, were loading my new TV sets, we talked about the game, things that had happened, things we would like to see changed. But the most interesting part of the whole experience, was simply the ambience of the moment, the level of respect from this guy I received, His look of serious uncertainty of the moment.
I could go on, but no reason really. For me this was one of my most precious EvE moments.
Oh yea, if you donGÇÖt believe it, blow it out yer A$$.

It is complex enough for me to stay interested and entertained for long periods of time. I can create long term plans and reap their rewards (Or fail to do so if I didn't plan properly) all while being able to settle my 1 month old in one arm or step away every few minutes...hours or even days if needed for RL stuff.
While I don't do PVP, I do not begrudge the presence of PVP players, including suicide gankers and pirates. They keep me on my toes, making sure I plan around that risk and punishing me if I fail to do so. If there was 0% risk, I would eventually get bored and leave.

I love Eve because :
- Unlike other MMOs, Eve's actually a game worth the money, the time we spent on the game is an investment.
- Unlike other MMOs, "death" in Eve, is not dumb, you can't just die and respawn somewhere, this aspect of Eve gave me the adrenaline rush when i'm about to "die" in a sense, and the satisfaction of destroying other people's property.
- Eve has a HUGE content, it's so damn huge and complex that i literally have never seen anyone who's an expert of everything in Eve, so imo, content-wise, Eve wins, hands down. I don't know if there are other MMOs out there that has the same or more richness and depth in content compared to Eve.
- Eve is probably the game with the steepest learning curve i've ever known or played so far, which is why it's interesting, for me at least. This promotes interaction with other people, promotes interest and curiousity.
- I've never played a sandbox MMO. This is probably the sole reason why i started playing Eve from the beginning (yes, and the spaceships ofc :p). Eve is my first and hopefully, going to be my last. I like the idea of not have to be bound by 'rules' in terms of gameplay, there are no job nor roles that i have to be stuck with from the start, i get to choose what i want. Although, i'm quite disappointed by the recent interference made by CCP devs and GMs, i get this feeling that the sandbox aspect of the game is getting 'nerfed' bits by bits. I don't know about the other players, but this is a huge letdown for me.
- The community and the game mechanics as a whole. The community aspect of Eve are for more dominant than other games i've ever played so far. Eve is not about how long you've played, how good your ships and skills are, heck, people can buy a character from the bazaar if they want to. Eve is about the interaction and community, how many friends you got, what kind of friends you know, how many enemies you have and so on.

Indeed, this is disappointing ... though with Crucible, Escalation, HAG, Burn Jita, etc... it seems CCP is starting to realize they should really be telling the people whining for "nerf [thing] that's been in the game since the beginning" to HTFU. |

2. Single server with numerous open markets. The fact that I can make ISK by being the middleman is really appealing to me.

I don't really think I have to explain why this game is so great, what I'll say is that this is the only major MMO in which actual game devs take time to post on the forums and communicate with us. I cannot stress enough how important this is. It goes to show, that you're not making all this stuff just for money, but because you also love the game. And in a weird way it's kind of comforting. ;) |

Im fairly new to owning a gaming pc. I have always wanted to get heavy into MMOs but never found one that I thought was worth the monthly. I started on FF which was extremetly brutal to the newcomer, didnt want to pay for that. Played Phantasy Star on dreamcast which while initially was a blast quickly became a dragging bore.
Then a friend convinced me to try EVE and I found heaven on earth. Very detailed, not the most new player friendly but I like the "figure it out, we think you are smart" approach to the game.
And I have never...never ever played a game where im in a constant state of anxiousness as anytime someone can try to kill me. Out of nowhere. For no good reason at all.
I love it.

There's just too many reasons this game rocks beyond measure...
1) Whinyt little 13 year old kids( wether actually 13 year olds or not ) get weeded out in the first week because they can't figure out how the game works and what the 'endgame' is and hoops they have to jump to get there to be 'leet'.
2) Darwinism in action. You **** up, you die. Survival of the fittest. You need titanium guts, and a mean streak to play this game. even if you're a 'non-pvper' ( hint, in Eve they don't really exist )
3) Awesome complicated scifi game
4) 'better' means being smarter 90% of the time, not more leet gear, or daddy's credit card.
5) Winning/Losing has meaning, you're not up against stupid NPCs, they're just background like they should be. The real opponent is other players, whatever venue you play.
6) Sheer diversity of activities, many of which would be totally frowned upon or cried about in other MMO's, like market manipulation, scams, massive wars and true emergent gameplay. ( Imagine Goons invading stormwind and really taking over... )
7) The players! seriously.. is there a more sadistic, nastier, scarier, more devastating comunity of people out there, aside from Serial Killers Anonymous. ( who are probably too busy playing eve to do their normal thing... ) And yes, I mean that in a good way. This is not a game for the meek. This is a game for mature gamers who know how to have a laugh, and who know how to play hardball if they have to, yet also are nicer and friendlier 'to their own kind'. There is honour among thieves, even when they are out to scam or kill you.
8) The Devs. CCP dropped the ball a few times, yes, but still, I don't think there's many more devoted, openminded and 'serious' developers out there than the ones working on Eve Online.

EVE was my first MMO, and I played it on and off for about a year. But EVE is a cruel mistress, and eventually we had a falling out. I bummed around trying other MMO's but they all frustrated me ("Why does this games economy suck? Whats the point of ganking me if I just respawn 10m away? Now that I'm lvl 50 what do I do? Why is PvP only happen in these special instances? WHY CAN'T EVERYONE BE ON THE SAME SHARD?!). All the while I'd glance over my shoulder and see EVE, her long spaceship hair glistening in the sun while an army of bloggers wrote about how pretty and deep she was. Eventually I caved to temptation, and jumped at the first reactivation offer they sent me.
Now I'm a leet carbear space-trucking industrialist freedom fighter rocket scientist/quantam physicist with a gambling addiction; suck on that SWTOR.

I like that its a single sharded sandbox where I can take someone's stuff and I actually get to keep it. Money, ships, modules, entire regions... try scamming someone in World of Warcraft.
I like that the developers of Eve Online are generally hands off when it comes to players doing horrid things to each other. Eve Online is virtual Somolia.
I like that the single sharded nature of Eve Online creates some of the weirdest high powered internet video game politics I've ever seen including a bewildering array of mental complexes, primarily cognitive dissonance or double think (E.g.: A enemy alliance thinking that they are winning the war by blowing up lots of our ships while we continue to take sovereignty over their entire region). Its fascinating and frequently hilarious.
Pretty much everything I like about Eve Online comes down to its single shard and sandboxed nature. Eve Online shows us exactly what human beings are capable of when laws and mortality are removed. You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world. |

3 things come to mind for me.
1. Scale: Eve is HUGE. You're not pinned to a tiny island or planet, the entire galaxy is your playground. I remember the first time I warped in my nooby little ibis and my jaw hit the floor as I watched what at the time for me was giant planet slide off and disappear into less that pin prick. It was an amazing image and sensation, a beutiful one too.
2. Persistance The clock doesn't stop ticking when you look away, and neather does it fix itself after a couple of minutes if you choose to break it. What you do has a lasting effect on the world around you even if you're not there to see it.
3. Risk and Value Eve is the only game ever that has litterally given me the shakes, an effect most horror games would only dream of having. The persistance of the world allows one to experiance actual risk, value, and most importantly, loss. If you lose something, its gone, forever and you lose that time and wealth spent to get that object. This puts weight behind our actions, it gives actual value and consiquences to our choices, something which eve has become extremely potent at. |

From the perspective of someone who's been here for just over a week:
It's nice to be overwhelmed by a game. There are just soooo many things to do, places to see, and people to meet. Too often games are trying to dumb things down and funnel you into a specific direction. Not here. Want to shoot stuff? Go for it. Change your mind? Here, try your hand at marketing. Maybe you like to look at product lists all day, and try to turn a profit. Whatever you want.
I like having game mechanics that are sophisticated and difficult to understand at first. The first time I flew my Thorax, I couldn't hit anything at all with my turrets, even at optimal range. After some head scratching and experimenting, I figured out that my tracking speed was too low for that range, so I bought some ammo with mid/high range, and suddenly I was killing stuff again.
I like that death has real consequence. When I lose my 15mil ship, and I only have 20mil in the bank, I understand that the mistake I just made can't happen again, unless I want to go back to flying a starter frigate. And since death is mostly avoidable (in pve, at least), I have nobody to blame but myself.
The graphics are simple and beautiful. The ship design is great. You really feel like you're warping through vast amounts of space as your ship flies from place to place. It creates a really cool atmosphere for whatever activity you're doing.
A player run economy that works?! Awesome! If you want to see what a crap economy looks like, that was designed by imbeciles, just go play Diablo 3. It's amazing how many moving parts there are in this game's economy, and how fluid it is. And the fact that it's been functioning for years without crashes (it hasn't crashed, has it?) is amazing.
I could continue, but I won't. I'll just say that I decided to pay for a real subscription after just 7 days, because I'm more than happy to support good, creative game developers.
(Oh yeah... and the avatars are crazy fun to mess with while I'm waiting 4 days for Drones 5 to level up ) |

I like that CCP accepts with humility (atleast publicly) some very harsh criticisms from it's playerbase, and hopefully realizes that it's because we care so much about this game. It is a symptom of madness that thoughts become uncontrollably disjointed. This can be encouraged.

I love fitting guns on ships, and loading them, and then shooting them, and reloading repeat... the target isn't very important.
Also missiles are fun too, I just rarely have enough high slots for them, increase number of high slots to x2? /petition What? No... |
