Yes, you could try watching your overview like a hawk and staying aligned, but it's much easier and safer to just mine in mission pockets, or probe down grav sites.
But still keep a close watch on your overview, just in case. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

Why run from the bear when you can shoot it?
Move to low sec for mining ops and bring protection. As sad as it is it will probably be safer than a lot of places in high sec now. Mainly because you won't get lazy and not watch local and it will be less populated.
And there is a decent chunck of people busy trying to gank in high sec, so seeing miners in low sec will be unheard of.
OP's advice is sound as well use mission pockets, etc. |

100% way to not be involved in a Gank, or a Burn.... ready? listen to the master...
... turn off your PC, call it in for an RMA to fix the *BLEEPING CENSORED* nVidia issue and other issues... then pack it in a box, take it to the mailing place of choice, post it ground w/ tracking, and then get on your old crap top that will not play EVE, but will get on eve-gate, read the forums, troll them, post stuff, watch videos on "Burn Jita" or "HAG5" and do this for about 2-3 weeks while your system is gone, plan on the install of your OS and all that again, and then sleep alot when you become to bored to deal with like - at the beach if possible and with a pretty gal at your side.
Pay no attention to the other posts, they lie, THIS IS THE WAY TO DEAL WITH GANKING AND BURNING.

My husband schedules our computer upgrades during hulkageddon every year. that way I'm less tempted to risk anything. Of course with the extra lengthened event this year this might back fire... making me want to try out the system as it will be upgrade completed before the end.

Mining is dull in this game, go do something else full time and the problem solves itself, besides no downside for me if even cruisers become crazy expensive so less mining please :-) |

I have the best advice for miners.
Don't play.

I'm partial to the idea of The Masters of Hulkageddon (HAG Masters) roaming space looking for Hulks but none appear. Do one of the many OTHER things the game has to offer. Let the HAG Masters roam space, gate after gate, region after region, getting on each other's nerves till they're asking, "Whose brilliant idea was THIS?" I don't know. The thought just appeals to me. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

Another point here...
What the HAG board, for intel and the leaders - you should have the "reds" marked in your contacts so that you can see them
I spent the last HAG with the HAG chat channel going - red'ed everyone as they came in, and the corps, I never saw any in my local.
Also at one point I sent a message in that channel to them to come Gank two groups of bot-miners... and they wouldn't come, I posted SS of these two blob-groups in RT, and still they would not come... why?
Because it had passed in to the second/third phase, whree most know they are not going to win anything, the cost is not being compensated for and they rather quit trying, they chat a bit and all that at that stage the only real danger comes from the ones still in the running and top KBs... so you have a simply deal with that - now this time around they did post 100M per 10 Exhumers but still that is going negative on the ISK if you add in all that it takes to do, you might break even on Dessies, but if you are using anything else your def paying for your ganking.
Anyway, it is summer and the world is open to much more than just EVE, find something to do, or as someone suggested do some tech upgrades...
The best situation as a miner is this for HAG 1. Do not mine, why? because then the market goes nuts and their ships/modules/etc get more expensive, and your ships are safe in your hangar, no cost. 2. Sit and watch the Market, watch that in 30 days of this the market is going to be so miner friendly that you will easily make back any loses... that is what the Goons are planing on doing... called Market Manipulation... pay attention to it and make it work for you.
Ultimately you have to decide to do things your way, but it pays to stockpile minerals, build a few passive incomes - there are many, and when you put them together, HAG and such are never much of an issue... even 30 days of it. it's all about the Frame Rate... |
