I had to downgrade to a similar card, spec wise, recently and performance tanked. My system specs are i7-930, 6Gb and SSD. |

Video card. The GTS series of Nvidia cards is, in general, crappy. Get at least a GTX 260, or a GTX 400 or 500 series card to multibox without issues. thanks for all the input. Il probably drop the cash on a gtx 560 or a pair of 550's, using one until i get all the parts i need for my new computer, like an 1gw power supply!) |

Its not the card its the game.. I am running two 560' cards SLI'd each card is dedicated to 1 monitor and each monitor has 1 client of eve on it..
The second i open a second client my entire PC grinds to a halt and stops and starts and goes all jerky.
Considering im running a quad core 3.6ghz CPU with 16GB of ram DDR3 1600mhz and 2 x 1GB ENGTX 560 cards, its not my machine and is a problem with the game... CCP are actually aware of it. You should submit a bug report, send them a Dxdiag file and sent them a server logging report also.
The more people that do the faster they will resolve the issue. |

I am looking closely at the Nvidia 680 and Kepler based cards as I also focus on heat and power consumption. If I was in your position I would submit the bug report and take time to research the benefits of this technology (no, I don't work for nvidia) I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking |

I just upgraded to a nVidia 560 SE, a newer version of the 560 line, from a nVidia 250GTS. I can now run 2 accounts, probably more if I tried, on max settings with my frame rates pegged out and barely ever moving. The good thing about it is, I only paid 130 dollars for the video card from Newegg. I really doubt your vidcard is the real issue, ofcourse having a "better" one will increase performance but it shouldn't make that much of a difference when running "just" 2 accounts.
Here's a few things for you to consider.
1) don't run multiple EVE folders and don't start the same client twice, instead use Links as described here, it's halfway down the page and you don't need extra software for it (assuming Win7), it's also taken care of in a few minutes. 2) keep a good eye on your memory use, these days the eve client easily gobbles up 700-1000MB so 4 GB on a win7 machine will be pushing it, especially if you have all kinds of stuff running in the background. If at all possible buy 4gb more, it's cheap as chips these days 3) the 3D settings in the driver software itself can be set too high quality, lower it a bit and see what happens. 4) toy with the interval settings, they're CCPs non-standard, non-logical and crappy coded Vsynch stuff, Try setting it to interval 1 on both clients and see how it compares to other settings.

ill try those links first before putting up the cash for a new video card.
sadly my Mobo isnt capable of handling more ram - hence a future upgrade soon (TM). |

got practically the exact same spec as you, minus SSD.
I've noticed the latest drivers are really turning some games into a freezeframe, almost as if the vram is just not pushing the buffer' like it should.
upgrading in 7 days to an ivybridge + 690, should solve the problem.

Honestly, if your mobo can't handle more than 4gb then upgrade that first before spending cash on a vidcard for your current PC, unless you upgrade it all in one go ofcourse.

Well, tbh its not the card, except possibly the lower vid ram, but I use an Nvidia GTS 250 1gb gddr2 just fine, multiboxing 3 accounts, all on high settings. Average of about 30fps on all 3. (only thing I don't have on is AA)
One thing I can suggest, and it seems others in this thread may benefit, vid card or not, I always run my eve clients from separate folders. I have 3 copies of my eve client, one for each account.
I used to have a lot of the performance issues and such with multiboxing, ever since running like this, no worries at all.
Give it a go, worst that can happen is no difference. :)
For completeness sake:

I don't believe it's your card. I have the same exact card and run multiple clients on max settings fine. I am running an i7 920 cpu at 2.8ghz with 6 gigs DDR3 1600Hrz memory. Also running from a WD Raptor 10,000rpm 320gig HHD.
I would guess its a combo of memory and your cpu (not familiar with the q6600). There are a few of the Ivy Bridge cpu's out on New Egg already so your wait has ended for that! |

Im budgeting for a complete rebuild once the Ivy-bridge chips are on the market, but thats going to be a ways off I am running one client under Vista. The EVE client itself needs more than 1GB of memory and after a while can grow to 1.5GB. On an 8GB system, which is what I have, does the task manager report a 28% memory usage with one EVE client at 1.1GB. If my math is not wrong then a second client will require at least 3GB and when both grow over time will the entire system possibly use 4GB of memory. So you should expect to run into quite some performance issues with only 4GB as there is little left for file system caching or running a browser. |

A single GeForce GTX 560 Ti with 2GB of RAM would be the best option right now (around 270$).
Second best option would be a single GeForce GTX 560 Ti with 1GB of RAM (around 210$). You might have some ever so slight trouble RAM-wise with two full-HD monitors, the video card will probably start eating up "reserved" main system memory via TurboCache, reducing performance.
Third best option would be a single GeForce GTX 560 (non-Ti) with 2 GB of RAM (around 190$).
2x 550 Ti 1GB would indeed be cheaper than the "first choice" version (around 220$ total). However, AT BEST you're only going to get about the same average performance (most likely actually noticeably lower) compared to the 560Ti2GB board, with a whole lot of occasional microstutter, and probably eating up about as much system RAM in total via TurboCache as the 1GB version (since AFAIK each card has to hold a similarly-sized framebuffer in SLI mode, so it's not as if you actually have 2 GB of video RAM, it's as if you only had 1GB). The only way they might end up being better is if you DO NOT put them up in SLI mode, but instead use them as individually separated cards, each operating a separate monitor full-time.
2-way SLI sucks. 3-way SLI is acceptable, but only available on top-of-the-line cards. If given a choice, at similar prices, almost always go with a single card first. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T http://eve-search.com/stats/Akita_T |
