EFT Warriors unite... Funny how people try to justify their multi billion ISK tanks. Someday you will realise 300 DPS tank would just be enough.

My 1525 dps vulture costs only 180 million after all the fittings are in, not 200 billion :p 180 and u can only tank a NH to 900 dps with just t2 by the way. also the guy asked for the best tank not what is the best half tank and half dps if you read his question again lol (quote from alexander leviathan.I'm looking for the highest DPS tank fit you can reach, concentrate only on defensive/cap modules, dont need any fight module)

Originally by: Clocky I get 1200 on my CNR against Gurista for example however I use a Gistii C X-large Booster. Why a C type well 2 reasons 1 its the cheapest at 1,6B and the other reason it allows me to drop alot of cap rechargers as it only uses 179 cap per cycle as apposed to the t2 that uses over 400.
Its expensive but I can fit 3 BCUs a Damage controler and 3 hardners. Or if i need more tank 1 BCU a damage control and 4 hardners.
It might be overkill but it sure is making lvl4s trivial hehe. I get about 580dps with abarlast and am currently saving for caldari launchers that will make well over 600.
I tried a fitting on the nightmare in EFT and nearly fell off my chair at over 2000 . That thing is just nuts.
lol a perma running large shield booster setup makes level 4s trivial, sell the gist c-type and buy a t2 large (or even an estamels large) and faction launchers/damage mods
and to the op, you are better off going in with 2 ships with gank fit and around 300 dps tanked and a remote rep. much faster completion time then a uber tank and an uber dps.
if you really want to though go with a sentry domi. over 1000 dps tanked when fit up specifically, and 300-400 dps that will aggro through ewar, and will destroy frigs with light drones.

I use a Broadsword or an Onyx as a mission DPS sponge.
Both have similar setups with:
4*LSE II, 2*rat specific amplifiers II 4*SPR II (I generally use named meta 4's)
Whatever you want in the highs. I use 5*HML II & tractor on Onyx and 3*HML II and 3 AC's on the Broadsword.
Broadsword for EM-heavy rats like sansha/blood/drones Onyx for Kin/therm-heavy like serpentis/gurista
Fittings are cheap and these will tank full room aggro on all L4's and quite a few L5's. I also use my Onyx to tank the easier sleeper anomalies.
I'm at work so I don't know the raw tanking numbers.

It's a silly question that doesn't mean anything without telling us what you need this tank to do. At best you'll get some answers from EFT warriors about their e-peen fictional ships they've created.
Drac what I want is a mad tank I can use to do missions, so while tank with a guy and leave him in background cause the tank is overpowered, I can use my main in a more aggressive fit to kill everything. Thats all. So I need a ship that I can use to warp inside, take the aggro and then warp with another character on a dps boat.
Passive drake 4tw cheap as chips and will tank any lvl 4.

basicly any BS/BC/commandship will do fine, however you might as well aim for a marauder so you can benefit from the 40km tractor beams...... if its just sitting their tanking anyway.... you might as well loot with it..... it all counts
diffecult to "objectively" point 1 ship out,.... but Vulture/Damnation/marauders are good bets.
if you are low on ship skills, drake/Prophecy, Dominix or Abaddon/Rokh/Maelstrom...start here perhaps.
Generally you simple choice betwen armor or shield tanking (which you prefer) and go with that, both have exelent tanks. |

Edited by: Kva Plexcha on 29/03/2009 01:42:40 I do the same as you but with plexes - Tank in first then DPS ship. I use a Hyperion against Angels that tanks around 1300 and has DPS around 480
There is no faction gear on it, but I use cap boosters for the cap - usually only needed for the initial aggro
If I wanted to make it cap stable I guess I could drop some guns and throw a few NOS on it but I like the current setup, which is:
Mid Slots 4 x Cap Recharger II's and Heavy Cap Booster II
Low Slots 2 x Large Armor Repper II's Damage Control II (for Angels) 2 X Explosive Hardener II Kinetic Hardener II
Rigs 2 x Auxillary Nano Pump Nanobot Control
I actually happier that I can get 512 DPS out of my Vexor, as my DPS ship.
Also I have a few armor implants, the 3% variety, not the super expensive ones.

I agree that the billion isk tanks aren't workable in game but 300 DPS tank WILL NOT TAKE A SINGLE ALPHA STRIKE IN A LEVEL 5. So if its running lvl 4 then great but the op didn't say that the op asked about the best tank with no name mods.
So I would go with the Broadsword or the Onyx, the vulture is not workable for me as I operate with no cap. If the OP comes back and tells us why then we can give a better answer but currently you can not just say go with a 300 DPS tank.
And yes you need DPS but you also need to work in the alpha strike because DPS doesn't mean **** if you lose your tank within the first 2 secs.

its a good fit BUT.
Neut = Death
Active Tanks rely on cap so the second you get neuted you can kiss goodbye to the ship.
**fake edit** you can get an insane passive tank with a loki :)

Edited by: glassmanipulator on 31/03/2009 20:10:07 Most of your fits are ******ed and pointless I'd have to agree. The best tanking ship is a onyx or broadsword, like the smart people in this thread have said, because of its sig radius and its ability to not be affected by neut towers.
The broadsword/onyx actually sig tanks the bs's a bit too, making it a winner. With race specific hardeners (1 of each, and 4 LSE), you can perma tank over 1900 dps of any type.
Taking a battleship size vessel into the uber escalation plexes just never ends good trust me, no matter how awesome you think your tank is, or what eft tells you...EVERYthing hits you for MAX damage basically. Sucks when your logistics accidentally gets aggroed and pop's, then your 2 billion isk Golem gets tackled :-) Well funny for me, crappy for you.
Rather have a ship that can go afk in the room orbiting a wreck ;-) EFT doesn't account for a few important things.

almost all of the posted setups rely on cap and would get spooned in most level 5s anyways.

***************************************************************** I don't like having the Cap Recharger II in the mid slots. So if you can put 4 NOS's on that thing it'll be cap stable, and it can pull cap from your main battleship.

*********************************************************** But now its getting completely silly. Your shield buffer is 4000, and this x-large rep repairs half of your shields every 5 seconds. And if you are under that much firepower, one little mistake, one blip of lag and your vulture goes pop.
Whats more sensible is to put a nice buffer tank on your vulture as well and use the battleship to remote repair the vulture
****************************************************** Lets say 1 large remote shield repper on the broadsword is equal to 452 extra tank
The same large repper on the vulture is equal to 396 extra tank.
those are both vultures, why not put the 3 shield related gang links on
