I'm currently training to astro lvl5, having still 10 days left. From what I have heard, after the patch DSP's are no more useful in signature scanning than core probes, is that true? Is it still worth training for DSP's
I'd like answers from someone that actually used DSP's after the patch please!

The way I understand, they have the same str as core probes at equal ranges. So you won't be able to use them to get warpable points on everything anymore.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

*sigh*
I just finished training for this yesterday. Looks like 10-11 days were wasted unless I'm trying to find ships in deep safe-spots or something.

Well you still get to use 8 probes as a consolation prize.
Do DSP give good enough results to determint the type of signature with just one probe - that's was what I was looking for.
Astro 5 in about 18 hours :(

They need to listen to the feedback on the game dev forum.
Put the STR back & increase deviation. Do what it takes to nerf them for getting warpables but let them be useful as a way to sort types of signatures quickly. All this did was ruin Astro 5 and make DSP only useful for finding deep space locations. Unless ALL the players are missing something, CCP rushed this change without much consideration. ___________________________________________

It was a fix. They never intended DSPs to be anything other than the new equivalent of the old Observator probes.

I agree. I'd be fine with not being able to get warpable hits with them, but I mainly trained for them since they were good for finding out signature types quickly.
As it is now, I got one day of use out of them and will probably never use them again. Yay for over a week of training for only a day of benefit. I doubt I'll be needing to find safe-spots 100AU outside the system's furthest planet anytime soon.
Maybe they should add something like the old multi-spectral probes. It's kind of tedious trying to sort out 15 signatures in wormhole systems. Deep-space probes helped with that a little, but no more.

And what is being suggested by players would be the same effect.
What they have done is not a fix. It's made them useless and made Astro 5 pointless. ___________________________________________

This was my experience after testing it yesterday. DSPs give same results as Cores at same range. Useful for the initial scan in a large system, but then you could just put put out a few cores and get the same thing. Ah well, one less skill to get jump portal operation.

DSPs are now not useful to multispec the system. As others said, that was a fix, it has been stated multiple times by devs that they were not intended to work like this.
Also, people who trained astro 5 so rashly might have listened the FAQ, where it was clearly reported that DSPs were likely to be changed very soon.
Anyway DSPs still have some role. They tell you how many sites are in the system, and what is their strength. From those information you can drive your own inferences, which will obviously be more accurate the more you get experienced.
While I found old DSPs convenient as everybody, I have to admit that scanning with them was TOO easy. It NEVER took me more than 15 minutes to scan a whole wormhole system, which really seems a bit too extreme. I can understand CCP's standpoint so I won't be complaining. I'll just adapt and enjoy a more difficult scanning system. Those who do NOT enjoy the scanning part might as well rely on those who do. That's the point of a corp/MMO, after all, isn't it?

OLD EXPLORATION: Multispec told you the sig types. You picked one, dropped probes, and scanned. Waiting for the hit. Sometimes you kept on waiting. On Occassion you waited and waited and waited for that hit (which was reported to be chance based).
NEW EXPLORATION: You have an idea where the sigs are, but you do not know the type. You have to get in closer to see the type. Scan time is very short. Overall, the new exploration is faster than the old, and being more interactive with short scan times, it does not have much waiting around.
WHAT I WANT: I want a method of flagging a sig on the system map without having to pinpoint it and warp in. Once I can see the sig type and know that I am not interested, and my probes are set at 1 to 2 au, I want to be able to right click, create a marker, enter a label, and move on.
