hey hey
recons arent exactly mission ships and are still just cruiser hulls so anything with high alpha/DPS will still blow your ass up. with NPC's being cheating feckers its even worse.
GENERALLY
L1 - Frigate L2 - Cruiser L3 - Battle Cruiser L4 - Battleship
this should give you a basic level of difficulty with average skill levels. TII varients and sub class ships (destroyers) can be added but you need to be more aware of your skill levels.
The curse has drones as its primary weapon so you could set the puppies loose and keep the curse alive with high transversal and speed so its possible that its capable of L4's
I would say that 100% it should be capable of L2's with basic skills and then L3/4 as your skill level increases and NPC knowledge/experience goes up.

Edited by: JordanParey on 29/03/2009 08:14:20 Edited by: JordanParey on 29/03/2009 08:13:58 I have a buddy who tanked L4s in his Curse. No joke. He had pretty good drone skills, and figured out that you can set up a passive curse, similar to a Drake.
Drone DPS + Dual 180 ACs makes for a pretty sick ship.
Might be able to pull up the fitting somewhere.

Throw on some NOS to help break NPC tanks, should be just as good as a launcher.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I can confirm that's possible to turn Curse into "mini-drake" and run lvl 4s. Not very effective, but possible.
Sample setup:
[Curse, shield passive heavy] Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Diagnostic System I
Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II
Heavy Missile Launcher II Heavy Missile Launcher II Heavy Missile Launcher II Heavy Missile Launcher II [empty high slot]
Core Defence Field Purger I Core Defence Field Purger I
... plus appropriate hardeners and drones, of course.

Edited by: King Rothgar on 30/03/2009 11:29:20 Someone has to rain on your parade so I'll be the one, t2 cruisers are not very good mission boats. Stick to the t1 line instead. Frigs for lvl1, cruisers for lvl2, BC's for lvl3 and BS's for lvl4's. Doing anything else is just inviting lots of irritation.
The curse is a great ship but is not that good for killing npc's. Sure you can do it, but that doesn't mean you should.

just a small note, the Heavy Assault Ships are excellent mission boats.
As for the curse, you've seen the passive shield tank-version, and that is on par with the passive-ishtar for missions (just a bit less range).
ship: realistic maximum mission level. Frigate : level 1 Destroyer: level 1. Assault Ship: Level 3 (*). Cruiser: level 2. Tech 2 Cruisers: Level 3 (*). Battlecruiser: level 3 (*). Command Ship: level 3 (*). Battleship: level 4 (with low sp, you might want to stick to l3). Marauder: level 4.
(* can definitely tank level 4s, but the DPS is usually not enough, so taking another ship is almost always better. some exceptions will apply).

total crap.
Command ships are awesome L4 mission boats by any standard. I used to use the claymore all the time and it was awesome. nothing broke the tank even when i agroed full mordus for giggles and Mordus Mammoth and Hoborak Moon both go down like a gallente rental. the sleipnir is even better ive heard. Nighthawks are known to solo L5's as well.
in fact with turret and missile changes recently using a medium sized weapon is a very good idea. wasnt it some nub at CCP who said use a BS with med gunz :/
also with your "realistic" ship/levels I wouldnt take a BS on a L3 mission. sometimes your signature radius and low speed will work against you and you get ****ty frigates orbiting you that the BS cant track.
i would certainly say that a well fitted, good Battlecruiser pilot is able to complete a L4 passive drakes do L4's on a regular basis FFS and theres a semi decent passive cane fit floating about as well.

for frigates: "release drones". if you're low on SP, a battlecruiser can be hard to take into a level 3, if you mess up and get the whole room on you, and/or if the NPCs have a resistance to your damage-types. that's when a battleship can come in handy. that's all I'm saying...

Yeah I dunno about other races' heavy assault ships, but the Eagle was great fun for L3 missions and the Cerberus just ate them up. I was also able to do every L4 mission (in caldari space) with a Cerberus, but of course my Nighthawk is faster.
If the OP has the skills to train for Recons he should just use HACs if he likes the cruiser hull. |

ISHTAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of the best pve boats imo. especially suited to afk play. like right now, full stage agro, orbit a roid at 500+ m/s, and laugh as your shields sit at 90%, oh **** I just looked and 87%!!!!
curse, I dunno, I wouldn't use it for pve, doesn't have the uber hac resists. has limited weapon slots, and low hp. for amarr mission running I really like the coercer, arbitrator, and nightmare. rather meh about anything inbetween, the absolution works pretty well for level 3 missions, but honestly for time invested doesn't do much more or better than a drake.
and using a recon for level 2 missions just seems like overdoing it, but it doesn't seem quite efficient enough for level 3s.

agreed. Recon for level 2, especially the curse is overdoing it. might as well use an Arbitrator instead. (though the Curse does look a lot cooler than the Arby ;) not to mention that 1 of the curse's bonuses is
completely useless in PvE, and the other two are rather iffy (NOS will limit the regen of an NPCs tank, apparently). NOS/neut takes a lot of cap... and with Shield Power Relays your cap's not gonna be very stable to begin with.
an ishtar it isn't.
heck of a PvP-boat though ;)

On the eve wiki http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/NOS
"Nosferatu Adjustments The Nosferatu mechanic has finally been fixed on Sisi and can now be tested properly. Nosferatus affect NPCs just like ordinary ships, so it is possible to leech energy from them. However they no longer affect the NPC's chance to repair as they used to, which means that Neutralizers must be used instead if the goal is make the NPCs tank less. " - CCP Fendahl

Why waste time taking a frigate on L1's? Just take your BC on everything. That's what I do. Heck I don't even bother firing my guns most of the time, the frigates usually pop when I warp in.

LOL, properly used vexor can easily do lvl3. My bet is AFs (wolf, ishkur) for lvl1&lvl2, if you want some fun, you can use it for lvl3 too, vexor with t2 drones quickly does any lvl3 safely staying 40+km from any targets. Using BCs for this is IMO a slight overkill as they usually perform very well in lvl4s
