This has been brought up before, but I think it's worth broaching again. I think CCP should overhaul the mining drones to bring them more in line with other drone types.
Old: Mining Drone I- 400 m/s | 5m3 | 5Mb/s | 15m3/m | 30HP - 250ms | 20HP Mining Drone II - 500 m/s | 5m3 | 5Mb/s | 25m3/m | 60HP - 250ms | 40HP Harvester Mining Drone - 250 m/s | 10m3 | 10MB/s | 30m3/m | 60HP -250ms | 40HP
New: Lgt. Mining Drone I - 400 m/s | 5m3 | 5Mb/s | 15m3/m | 30HP - 250ms | 20 HP Lgt. Mining Drone II - 500 m/s | 5m3 | 5Mb/s | 25m3/m | 60HP - 250ms | 40 HP Med. Mining Drone I - 300 m/s | 10m3 | 10Mb/s | 30m3/m | 40HP - 250ms | 30 HP Med. Mining Drone II - 400 m/s | 10m3 | 10Mb/s | 50m3/m | 80HP - 250ms | 60 HP Hvy. Mining Drone I - 200 m/s | 25m3 | 25Mb/s | 60m3/m | 50HP - 250ms | 40 HP Hvy. Mining Drone II - 300 m/s | 25m3 | 25Mb/s | 100m3/m | 100HP - 250ms | 80 HP Deep Core Mining Drone I - 200 m/s | 25m3 | 25Mb/s | 25m3/m | 40HP - 250ms | 30 HP Mod. Deep Core Mining Drone II - 250 m/s | 25m3 | 25Mb/s | 40m3/m | 80HP - 250ms | 60 HP
Yield for 5 drones: Light Drones:1min- 75m3/125m3 / 3min- 225m3/275m3 Medium Drones:1min- 150m3/250m3 / 3min- 450m3/750m3 Heavy Drones:1min- 300m3/500m3 / 3min- 900m3/1500m3 Deep Core Drones: 1min- 125m3/200m3 / 3min- 275m3/600m3
Comparison to Present: This would make 5 light drones almost as good as 2 Miner I lasers. The T2 drones would be slightly better than 3 Miner Is.
It would make 5 medium drones a little better than 2 Miner IIs or about 83% as good as a single Strip Miner I. The T2s would be about slightly better than a single Strip Miner I.
In addition, it would make 5 heavy drones slightly worse than a Modulated Strip Miner II with crystals, or better than one in the T2 drones.
As far as the Deep Core drones, 5 of the T1s would be less efficient than a single Modulated Deep Core Miner II with crystals, while 5 of the T2s would be less efficient than a single Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner II with crystals.
None of the Mining Barges or Exhumers could carry enough drones to add more than the equivalent of a Strip Miner I, and a big, non-ORE drone boat could at most derive the mining power of a Procurer or Skiff from drones.
Game Play Benefits:
- Allows miners who choose to hold their own against pirates in PVP ships to mine more efficiently.
- Allows ninja miners to mine faster and thus get out of harm's way faster.
- Allows miners in High-Sec to improve yields by around 25%, dropping prices on Tritanium.
- Allows Orca pilots to mine about as efficiently as a Cruiser.

With even a quick glance... I definately agree we need sized Mining drones.

I'd also like to see the Procurer/Skiff changed into a Drone Boat, since "Mercoxit" isn't much of a reason to design a whole T2 ship around. Besides, I have to laugh when I see the description for the Procurer claim "a goodly drone bay" of 5m3. --- Players aren't interested in Variety, they only want THE BEST. |

I like this, I dont mine with drones often but sized drones for the task make a lot of sense.
Absolutely everything is subjective. |

i abandoned mining drones in disgust almost 2 years ago. i would love to see mining drones a) sized and b) either faster or tougher so that when rats warp in to the belt right next to you and focus fire on one drone, they dont pop so fast.
the loss rate was what really killed them for me. i dont know why it is, but about 80% of the time a rat will target a mining drone over everything else in the belt. given how slow and how soft mining drones currently are, i have to keep massive stashes of them in the stations i use, and its too much bother for too little benefit.

Since two race's mining cruisers are drone mining ships and since mining drones are generally underused, underpowered and too little diversified, I'd welcome any such rework.

Edited by: Re''taka on 30/03/2009 12:25:12 15 heavy's from my carrier in a nice little grav site would be nice and so what if it out mines the hulk, a lot.
T2 Heavys as you say, 500m3/min * 15 = 7500m3 per min. Only issue, is where the heck and im going to put the ore from the 2nd cycle lol :)
Do like the idea but numbers need some tweaking.
LOL Finaly a use for that mothership lol, 25 * 500 = 12500m3/min :)

I definatly like the Idea. Remember with the carrier you would have to factor travel time into the equation so you would have to reduce the m3/min to get the actual rate. This would be a good next step for the evolution of minning.

Silly question...
I thought Carriers could only deploy excessive amounts of Fighters. Can they deploy more than 5 standard drones? |

Edit: ra'taka where did you get 500 m3/min from the OP said 100m3/min which factoring in travel time would still give you less than a hulks 1300-1400 m3/min. making the carrier a more valuable asset to the mining fleet but not making it a solo minning pwnmobile. the numbers seem just right to me.
I got my numbers here:
Quote: Yield for 5 drones: Light Drones: 1min- 75m3/125m3 / 3min- 225m3/275m3 Medium Drones: 1min- 150m3/250m3 / 3min- 450m3/750m3 Heavy Drones: 1min- 300m3/500m3 / 3min- 900m3/1500m3 Deep Core Drones: 1min- 125m3/200m3 / 3min- 275m3/600m3
sure I didn't account for travel time because that will vary, I do not see where you have this 100m3/min at however, less Im missing something, and I wasn't complaining just pointing out the fact that carriers as the above shows would be much better at mining then a hulk.
EDIT: lol my bad didnt see the yeild for 5 drones.... lol

Hey, if you want to mine in a carrier... More power to you.
Just remember that you're sacrificing your entire 25 drone complement to mine about as fast as a hulk. :)
